  • Tick stick marking out an internal shape. Also called a tick stick.
How to use a ticking stick to create a template and transfer to a sheet of custom wood to fit a shape I created to demonstrate this process.
I love how simple but very accurate this process is. No measuring

Brilliant. Another great demo of using a ticking stick. I saw your video on cutting a curve, this video was just as good. Wow, no measuring. Thanks for sharing this (old) technique. 9/22/2023.

    Couple comments,
I think it would be best for first timers to go ahead and trace the end of the stick. It would help keep things more accurate.
I like old ways of doing things because it shows the young folks that we didn't need fancy special tools and machines to get it done.

Outstanding! Can this be applied to larger (my triangular balcony floor) jobs?

Absolutely. Just use a bigger piece of cardbord or ply to take down original marks. You could also make a larger tick stick. Cheers Mike

Is there such a ticking stick that you can make and use to increase or decrease the size of a shape please. Thank you, Eve

Hi Eve. I haven't seen one but what you could do is have 2 marks on the side of the ticking stick. So for example if you want to make the shape 10mm bigger have your marks 10mm apart. When you mark out the shape mark the first mark then when you mark out to cut slid the stick along base line up to the second mark then put your dot at the end. This will make the shape 10mm bigger. Just reverse to make smaller. Hope you understand this. Cheers Mike

@@mikesworkshopadventures it's a pity that this question hadn't been asked in the last video! You could have done exactly as you suggested, but creating an offset for the thickness of your frame in this video and you could have produced inside and outside perimeter shapes from the same marks. Oh well, nevermind, a very useful video nevertheless.

Why not just lay the form over the insert board, scribe a line all around the interior of the form, and then cut it out?

It was a demonstration of a process. In reality it would be in a location you can't move form. I covered that in video. Cheers Mike
