IMO I think the topcow iterations of Lara is one of her best iterations to date! It proves that you can have a sassy femme fatale Lara while still having emotional depth.
The first Tomb Raider game shows that Lara is vulnerable, trusting, but to an extent, after she's been betrayed by her former employer, Natla. The point is, the game shows that she is human and can overcome her adversaries without her guns, by using only her wits, stealth, acrobatics, and will power to sneak through, until she can finally obtains her guns.
I am not sure anyone believes that Lara “trusted” Natla given Lara said she “only plays for sport”. I don’t mean to imply she isn’t vulnerable in the classic games or immune from mistakes, I meant to say that Classic Lara as a power fantasy character doesn’t usually have those moments and I think Reboot Lara is way to weak and vulnerable and that this comic Lara is a good middle ground between Femme Fatal but also fairly deep and nuanced.
It’s great to finally see someone talking about the comics. For the amount of effort, blood and sweat that was put into it, I feel like it’s the one piece of lara Croft media people don’t know
Awesome video! I was lucky enough to find the paperback versions of Pieces of Zero and Medusa mask in a discount bookshop when I was a kid. Absolutely adored reading them and the odd loose issue I'd find, I always felt they captured Lara's personality really well. Looking forward to finally reading them all, thanks to you :)
I’m glad this video helped to inspire you read the entire series :). Here is the link to the online version of the comic if this helps: readcomiconline.li/Comic/Tomb-Raider-The-Series
Really like your way of narrating. Well put together vid. You have a cool sounding voice. Makes me want to read this as soon as possible. So props to you sir.
Thanks for the video and the insight, even thought the sound quality could or should be improved. Sometimes your voice is a bit hard to understand. I like the TopComics, the artworks are splendid, the stories are entertaining and fluffy pulp, easy to read, easy to forget. In that regard I prefer the more recent tie-in comics to the rebooted TR games even though the artwork is lacking in comparison.
I smashed all 50 books of the 90s era of tomb raider and as you said its cannon it makes me want to read it 100x never get sick of it the artwork illustration details the way they put the panels the colours storyline script is well planed. To bad i can't say the same with dark horse tomb raider its shit the drawing is goofy and the colouring is bad the comic panel are confusing poorly planning script storytelling its all over the place and its premotes domestic violence to men in general and they made lara gay no wonder they made only 14 books.
While I didn't mind lara being sexualised, I do think more of the male characters should have showed more skin at times too, to make it somewhat equal. In the Angel of Darkness issue, Lara and Kurtis died and got revived at one point but only Lara was shown naked during that time. A scene where Kurtis or one if the other male characters seduces Lara with his naked ripped body would have been welcome.
On the surface a fair argument and one I generally agree with on a broad level, in tomb raiders case specifically the older versions of Lara Croft are a power fantasy. Unattainable icons that people want to be or be with. Much like how you wouldn’t have anyone else in Doom be like the Doom Slayer, you wouldn’t have anyone be Lara Croft other than Lara Croft. Because both are power fantasies of their respective sex. But that’s just my take
@@theLoreRaiderOG hey there, i finished reading all 50 issues, what a joy, i would say it is the only place to go to really immerse yourself in lara crofts character, i think they nailed it, the movies didnt, the games did but didnt show much of her character and when they did they messed it up, this comic book really seemed to capture her personality as i imagined it and some of the art work was really beautiful, thank you for making that video or else i would never have known
The French graphic novel and Top Cow run were excellent. Dark Horse struggled. The flashback story with Randy Green was the best. But then a Woke shitty arc with bad art that killed the comics.
Sorry for the delay between videos. But I hope I managed to convince you to give the comics a chance. Happy 25th Anniversary of Tomb Raider.

Agreed, I think this is an extremely underrated version of Lara. Thank you for commenting. :)
the comics are so underrated. though I was "raised" on the original games, the comics proved to be highly entertaining and offering really great art

I absolutely agree
The guy Chase Carver, felt like Daniel Craigs' character in the first movie.

Let me know if you do read it, I hope you enjoy it
So basically she’s the unholy amalgamation of me, Spider-Man, John Wick, Rambo, with a touch of Doomguy?
A pretty apt description
Jackie Estacada was The Darkness.
So it’s official then, Lara Croft and the Ninja Turtles technically share the same universe since both titles have a DC cameo.
Classic Carol Danvers was very human.

Better than I remember? That's impossible
