I love Last Order. It finally revealed the world became so dystopian and the way it did it during the vampires segment was so satisfying. Mars Chronicle is really good thus far too.
Yes. I told you it is that good. And I generally propagate everywhere to read it. Many people have read it because of my recommendation. And I am so happy you have read it. Mars Chronicles is the latest series and you will have whole set of Alita
OMG! So freaking happy that you finally read this! The ZOTT, was peak manga tournament for me, nothing will ever top this! And SPACE KARATE! I never knew that these two words would marry themselves better than bacon and eggs. The World Building is truly insane with so much layers and richness, and the stories of so many characters like MBadi, Vilma and how they came to be were definitely the highlights. Edit: I think you overlooked it a bit tho, maybe it's reading the volume in one set that does this because it's pretty common to manga content creators.
What I liked about Alita’s journey throughout the first series and then Last Order is that even though she goes on lots of life changing adventures, she is always reminding herself of the people she loves, particularly the one that became the reason she was alive and walking after being part of the scrapyard dump, and the person that allowed her to experience romantic love for the first time and one so deep it changed her a lot after having lost that special person. They became the reason she fought on at times where she could’ve just given up.
Last Order is good on a first read, but it's GREAT on a reread! A lot gets lost the first time because it's a bit overwhelming, but going in and knowing who's who, and where the story is going helps tremendously with appreciating the beauty of the story of Last Order
On a fun note Last Order and the final rushed chapter of the original manga run are in actuality running concurrently with each other. As events from each events are lining up. It's just that the rushed chapter is pretty much a fever dream.
Great to see you continuing this epic! As a long-time Alita fan it is really fun to hear the experiences of a new fan with the series. 😄 Last Order really is a curious beast of a series. It has some of the wildest ideas I've seen in any sci-fi-series, and some of the revelations and twists are both heartwrenching and really clever, but it's also a really uneven series, with the ZOOT taking up way to much space, while also having some of the wildest fights ever. Overall I really enjoyed the series, but the original is still the stronger whole. I do look foreward to hearing your thoughts about Martian Chronicles as well. When it comes to favourite moments, I think the meeting of the 3 Novas and the revelation that followed was amazing. Truly the greatest test Alita has ever met. Any fight with Alita herself is a blast, but I think my favourite fight is Sechs vs Zekka. Sechs is already a really fun character, and seeing his development and growth is a ton of fun, culminating with an amazing fight!
Im a simple fan. I see alita, I watch a video. Let me know when ppl catch up to Alita, Mars: Chronicles because I have FEELS. And you’re correct he was Ill at the end of the series: he has the first page in the first volume that says the last chapter was retconned. Then continues the series using THE FANFICTION SENT IN BY JAMES CAMERON here in Last Order.
I double checked after you said it didn’t declare the non canon chapters: The original viz publications and Japanese publications DID have the authors note to skip prior chapters, right after the publication info in the front. If you are reading digital or online: they often remove and skip authors notes which causes many people frustrations
Mars chronicles is progressing at a snails pace we haven't had any chapter in 2023 yet and all we got from the author is "I'll publish some in 2023" and a drawing of his pugs celebrating 2023. Most of what was until now was quite enjoyable tho other than maybe the necro thing... I'm still not very happy with that one
I discovered the Alita series in the middle of last year, and there is no doubt: This has become my favorite Manga series. Both the original and Last Order are memorable to me, even though this sequel has shifted more towards action, I still love the whole series.
Thanks for covering last order, i love alita and just finished last order. This is one of my favourite video's covering the manga, keep up the great work!
This is a great video! Btw Ryan you really should read the Sora No Otoshimono manga, it’s REALLY GOOD and it gets even better as it goes on. I feel like it’s somewhat relevant because it also has to do with artificial life and what it means to be human. Although one half of sno is konosuba tier comedy, the other half is a really tragic and almost dark overarching story. And almost all the characters are handled perfectly, you almost expect it to become some kind of harem manga but instead of constantly adding new characters Sno brilliantly continues developing the characters till the very end and it is one if the few manga that I’ve read with a perfect ending. Sorry for rambling but I really think you should check out this manga and everyone else who sees this should read it too.
THANK GOD the creator could survive his health issues after OG GUNNM Finale, so he could then bring Last Order, one of the best pieces of sci fi out there. I am not a sci fi genius, but i am sure about that statement. I Hope he can finish Mars Chronicles!
Ohhhh the LAST ORDER was my introduction to the Alita series. That stuff was heavy but so good. I adored the vampire lady. Forget her name. (Wilma or something).
It was kind of neat how the tournament managed to do explore the whole solar system and it's factions without having the character go through a grand adventure and visit them one by one. But I personally was never a fan of tournament arcs, so I still liked the first one where the character DID had an adventure once she stepped out of the city.
Planned sequels James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez have hinted that the film could lead to multiple sequels. On February 6, 2019, they announced that they have plans for Alita: Battle Angel 2 in the future. The casting of Edward Norton in a non-speaking role as Nova in this film was intended to be a setup for the sequel. Additionally, the uncredited cameos by Michelle Rodriguez and Jai Courtney were meant to set up larger roles in a sequel. In April 2020, Christoph Waltz stated that he had not heard any discussions about a potential sequel to the film, and thought the possibility was unlikely following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox as it may not fit in with the Disney culture. However, in January 2021, the director Robert Rodriguez said that he was hoping that a sequel to the film would be made. Later on, during an interview with "The Nerdy Basement", Rodriguez claimed that he would try pitching an Alita sequel if The Book of Boba Fett series, directed by him, succeeded in "knock[ing] people's socks off". In December 2022, Rodriguez and Cameron took a virtual blood oath to make a sequel. In April 2023, producer Jon Landau confirmed that the sequel was in active development with Rodriguez and Rosa Salazar returning as director and star, respectively. In July the same year, James Cameron reiterated that he is working on more than one sequel.
I can also absolutely recommend "Other stories". The art is just way over the top at times (see the short story "Sonic Finger"), and there is also some additional lore being revealed. Absolutely worth the read. I would recommend the reading order: Alita Battle Angel Other stories Last Order Mars chronicles The latter are also extremely good.
By the way, the songs referenced in the complete series as far as I found them: In Battle Angel: Judas Priest: Painkiller Judas Priest: Ram it down yes: Big Generator In last Order: Judas Priest: Blood Red Skies (start with this one!) Its been two weeks and suddenly I like metal lol.
Thanks for the manga recc amigo, I just finished fist of the north star for the first time and was looking for something new to start. "favorite female protagonist in all manga" is the perfect pitch to sell me on it much obliged
Honest and fair review. I chuckle because the Martian origins story is complicated and unexpected to say the least🤣 I've been on this ride since the beginning. Sometimes there have been many years of no publications, even now I'm seeing maybe 1 volume a year, but I still look forward to it. Can't wait for the 2nd film, my flan fork is poised and ready 🙂
Read last order years ago and loved it because of all the crazy cyborg/android martial arts and the ending was nice and heartfelt. I hope someday it will get an anime adaptation
Never read last order, unfortunately I don’t like reading scans and here in Italy it’s out of print forever so maybe I’ll check it out some day. But, here’s some trivia, in the Italian volume before the last chapter there is a disclaimer telling you that the chapter is not can since last order come out and continued the story.
I also liked the original story better but not by much. With Last order, the things I thought were lacking were the same issue with the ZOTT ending (Tunpo showing up as a spiritand just ending everything and taking out Colonel Pain out of Alita's mind, I really hated that) and an uneaven tone (some fights were really silly, I liked that the OG series didn't have that). In terms of everything else, except the characters I think the two series are equal in quallity. I'd say that Last order has a bit better fleshed out cast than the OG series. Glad to see you enjoy the series so far.
what is it with many of ryan's favorite manga all having surprise vampires ? talking gantz, one punch man and now alita. at this point if he ever writes one and doesn't include vampires, I'll be quite disappointed
So what's the ending, i dont read, i just happened to see the clips and interested. I feel like she just destined to fight, really sad. I mean, i might be wrong, from what i read, she's actually living ultimate weapon being, destroyed and revived again
I actually stopped reading around Last Order Vol.2. The retconned ending and the change of feeling/vibe of the manga killed my desire to read it, unfortunately. I need to give it another try one of these days, maybe it will click this time. Volume 1 through 9 was amazing tho.
Can't blame ya i felt the same too reading from the OG series to LO. Suffice to say i enjoy both just as much in their own way. LO is just nuts with every battle
the story is mid but the beggining of it is good. The art is still great but id like it better if it had a more sketchy feel like the original story did

Well Alita is described as Cyborg snow white from Mars.
I love Last Order. It finally revealed the world became so dystopian and the way it did it during the vampires segment was so satisfying.

The Alitaverse is just packed with wild concepts and completely bonkers characters. I think it has the most intricate world building i have ever seen.

Sechs is six in german. Alita is from Mars, a german-japanese colony.
