Because Julie Plec wanted to end the series with Delena, the normal thing would have been that Elena, upon taking the cure, would have had to remember Stefan and not Damon and return to Stefan, but they didn't want to, plus Elena was human one day, so it didn't matter. time to develop feelings again for Stefan. I understand that if Nina or Elena had not left, she would have taken the cure earlier, Stelena would have returned.
