One-Stop Playlist: Ys Series Final Battle Themes

- Final battle themes for every Ys game, set up as a continuous playlist for your listening enjoyment. I had this idea the other day, and decided, why not give it a go, and see what people think? My RUclips account allows for uploads of any length, and Falcom has given their blessing to have their music used in any streaming medium as long as the proper labeling is applied (which it is), so... here we are!
Includes the final battle themes from Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished Omen (PSP version), Ys II: Ancient Ys Vanished The Final Chapter (PSP version), Ys III: Wanderers From Ys/The Oath in Felghana (Felghana version), Ys IV: Mask of the Sun (arranged version), Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys, Ys V: Lost Kefin Capital of Sand (PS2 version), Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim, Ys Origin, and Ys SEVEN.
PLEASE NOTE (before anyone asks) that the PC-Engine version of "A Great Ordeal" (Ys IV: Mask of the Sun's final battle theme) was used in place of the Super Famicom version, as it simply sounds MUCH BETTER and is more in keeping with the level of quality found in this video's other tracks.
For those who aren't already innately familiar with the Ys series, there are actually two Ys IVs: Mask of the Sun, and The Dawn of Ys. These two games were notably different, and even had different final battle themes. Mask of the Sun's final battle theme was ALSO used in Dawn of Ys, however, as a regular boss theme -- and the arrangement and synth in Dawn of Ys are almost unquestionably superior -- so I chose to use the that version of the track instead of the original Super Famicom final battle version.
Hope no one minds! But once you hear it, I doubt you will. ;)
As another note, despite both Ys II and Ys Origin using the same track as a final battle theme, the Ys Origin arrangement of it is decidedly unique, so I felt it most appropriate to include both in this video. I placed Ys Origin's between Ark of Napishtim's and Ys SEVEN's, as that's where the game's original release fell.
Hope you all enjoy this -- and if you do, I'm sure there will be more of these One-Stop Playlists in the future!
(Special thanks to MP83, Yakra, RPGamer.com and RPGFan.com for supplying the logo images used in this video.)
Felghana has got to be my favorite last boss theme. It was just so perfect and so was the fight
Origin's Termination and Felghana's Strongest Foe. Ffffuuuu. Will never tire of them.
The Mask Of The Sun battletheme sounds so much like an Yngwie Malmsteen song!
While Origin's Termination does get a lot of love, I always thought most people were partial to The Strongest Foe from Felghana. That's been the one I've personally heard the most people claiming to be the best, anyway.
For me, though, it's The Depth Napishtim, hands down. Freakin' LOVE that song.
Hell yeah! Ark of Napishtim final battle music! It had so many fun chords, making it sound like a mess, yet epic!
This is the ultimate playlist, for ultimate showdowns! :D
You did a great job of connecting all of these great songs. I can't really nail down a favorite from them. Termination is great, The Strongest Foe is great...
There's just so many options - and all of them are beyond epic. Forcing myself to not listen to the end though as I have yet to beat Ys Seven :)
Still - congratulations good sir. You are a hero amongst Ys fans - but you already know that!
I'd say that I'm almost disappointed that the Famicom version of the final battle theme for Ys I didn't make it here, but I'm not at all surprised considering it was a third party port of the game with various liberties taken during production (two Dark Facts, for example.)
There is a wonderful arranged version of the Famicom final battle theme done by Sword of Justice floating around RUclips as well. While it's completely unofficial, the theme was quite well composed (in my opinion.)
The Strongest Foe is by far the most epic theme ever!
Wicked Pleasure is another epic theme in my opinion, while The Depth Napishtim is weird at first but it fits pretty well.
YAY!! CELEBRATING THE JDK FALCOM YS BEST MUSICS EVERS!!! ROCK ON!!!! :D
Wow, you're one of the few people I've ever met who actually likes Wicked Pleasure. ;) Not that I disagree! I always felt it was a bit weak compared to other Falcom battle themes, but still a very good track.
Sure doesn't seem to get a lot of love, though!
Ys V in general seems to be like that...
Yeah, i can understand that.
Although, you are correct to say there's no emotional attachment to the creature, i'd say the battle itself allowed for a bigger attachment due to the implications of what would've happened had the creature won. Not to mention, all the relationships the group had formed with all the characters they met (especially in Adol & Dogi's case) over the course of the game would've meant nothing if you lost the fight.
So yeah, i'd argue the song was perfectly usable. :D
That wouldn't be Ys anymore, though! Sounds more like Legend of Heroes to me -- if you haven't checked out that series, I'd recommend picking up Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky sometime and giving it a look. Same developer, but it's a turn-based epic fantasy JRPG instead of an action RPG.
Great stuff!
My two favorites, I'd say, as far as final battle themes go... Mask of the Sun and Ark of Napishtim.
Gawd, gotta go play some Ys again. :)
psp releases get all the love lel XD but thats understandable as music rendering were improved upon and upscaled.
Or an ys game with grandia style turn based where they move around the field in battle :D
I've only ever heard the first 20 seconds of the first boss battle
woah first time i hear more than 50 sec of the first last boss theme jajaja
Wow, a member for XSeed... a question plz. When will Ys Memories of Celceta come to PC and Steam!?
No idea. You'd need to ask the company that's porting it to PC in China, as that's the only PC version around to my knowledge -- and after vaguely mentioning it, the company seems to have dropped off the face of the earth.
+Wyrdwad
Way more interested in Ys Seven's Steam port.
+NerdHouse Or how about Ys VIII? I was super excited at the announcement and then it went quiet for nearly 2 years. Now it won't be released until 2017 in Japan? Jeez I don't think I can wait much longer!
Hope for the Hopeless was appropriate for the battle where it was used, though, since that was essentially the fight against the game's main villain, with whom you'd developed an emotional investment. The final battle theme was much better-suited to the actual final battle of the game since that was a fight against an amorphous entity that you'd never seen before -- so emotional attachment didn't exist, and the music just needed to drive the action forward with fast pacing and good beats.
I'm glad that 0 people fell off the edge of ys in the sky :D 0 dislikes
Wow how is it that I never found this earlier. XD.
And Ancient Disputation (mainly the beginning) is good!
Cheers for the upload!
My favourites would be The Depth Napistim and Ys Origins version of Termination. Although, had Falcom gone with Hope For The Hopeless for Ys VIIs final battle, i would've picked that too as i've always thought that it was a better fit rather than Ancient Disputation was, in my opinion of course.
Man I love Ys music
Ys 8 when
Now the question is "Ys 8 localization when"
im ys seven ancient disputation the final boss is 3 part of body and name is rul-ende
I would like to see an ys game made like a 4 man party traditional turn based rpg lol i live turn based rpgs :3 i love ask ys Games XD
Ys viii, memories and ix when?
Can't update a video after it's already been uploaded, I don't think. ;) It is funny that it's been that long, though. Time certainly does fly!
Ha its so funny that you have a youtube channel yet you're an actual member of xseed. Do you get hit with copyright flags on material you actually help translate lol
Nah, never once! And it's especially unlikely ever to happen with Falcom, since they actively allow people to post their music on RUclips as long as it's properly credited -- like, 100% legally. They have an entire page on their official website dedicated to this "free music use policy" of theirs, which states that you're free to share their music via streaming services or public performances as long as you're not profiting from the endeavor. So I couldn't monetize this video, but legally, I am A-OK to share it.
