Very helpful video, thank you! I was wondering how to make a token action for all skill checks or spells? I want a "Skill" button that will let me then select the skill I want to roll, for example.
Good afternoon! I'm glad you found the video helpful. The last time I was actively using Roll20 for D&D I didn't know if a way to accomplish what you're asking. You could theoretically try a query macro that lists every skill but that would likely end up being more clumsy that the sheet. Likewise for spells you'd need to include all the text for every spell you have since the macro wouldn't pull from the compendium. Its been a few years though so I can always poke around and see if there are new features.
You can either have the sheet whisper all rolls to the GM in the sheet settings or you can make individual rolls go to the GM by starting their macros with the whisper command.
It's been a few years since I played Pathfinder and I always played it in person never via Roll20, but if I find some time this week I could look into what it'd take. Unsure if you'd need a macro or if the sheet has a global damage modifier area like the D&D 5e sheet does.
Well, funny you should ask... at present all players are physically present when we are playing, but we are about to add a tele-player. Was wondering what kind of tech setup we need to make it work - like webcams, twitch or discord or does Roll20 have that video capability?
@@MarkovBitcoin There's a couple different ways to do that depending on setup and personal preference. If you're using physical maps it might just be easiest to use webcam and mic to bring the teleplayer to the table. However, if you using Roll20 for the maps either on the table or just displayed in the room with the physically players then the teleplayer could interact with the map directly as well as roll their dice etc there. Both are valid ways of doing it (and I've been the teleplayer for both setups) it just depends on your group's preference and what you have the equipment to do--mic, webcam, TV etc.
OneCritWonder yep, it’s the latter setup, with all maps being on Roll20 and we use a mix of tokens (dm) and models (players, at present) but we can transition to all Tokens on R20. So yes, the remote player will interact with his own player account while the local players just use a single “players map” account with one person updating any moves on the map. So the only thing left to figure out is how to get video/audio to the remote player. At present we’re thinking Twitch but we need some way to get his audio back to us. Lots of options but wanted to know what setup is best. Cheers!
@@MarkovBitcoin That'll come down to preference as well I suppose. Twitch would likely be my last choice as the teleplayer would have both stream delay and no way to send audio back. Roll20 supports both audio and video so you could broadcast the table and talking to them through it as well as have the physical group see their cam in the lower left. Alternatively you could have the teleplayer call in via Skype/Discord/Hangouts on a seperate method in a way that would let them see/hear everyone and everyone see/hear them--a laptop at the end of the table or what have you.
This was super helpful, I have a session coming up in a few days and this will really help combat go faster. One question though, how do I remove the attack Macro in the bottom left if I lose the weapon or start using another attack more primarily.
For anything on the Quick Macro Bar ((bottom left, under the names)) you need to grab it by the tab on the right side of whatever the button is and then drag it off the bar. Youre not alone in fighting with them, its probably one of the most common questions I see.
First of all, thanks for the video, it was very useful. On my RPG table we use a different calculation for critical hits: instead of rolling an additional die you multiply the damage by two. Is there a macro that allows you to automate this?
I get this question from time to time and to my knowledge, there's not an easy way on Roll20 to simply swap how crits are calculated. You could manually adjust it by modifying a weapons crit rating and crit damage but it'd be nice if the GM could just change the whole game with a click.
There's a little tab on one side that you have to grab and drag it off the bar. You can't just click anywhere and drag despite the fact that it looks like it'd work.
@@maskedmanager1606 No worries. I literally pinned a message about that exact question a while back because every few days someone would ask the same one lol.
Hi mate, how do you clear the initial Great Sword attack that you created? I was following and it was usefull, but don't know how to clear the macro below?
From the macro quick bar on the lower left? Grab the tab on the right(?) side of the macro button. You can't just grab anywhere it has to be on the little edge tab then drag it off.
on the far right I see you are rolling both advantage and disadvantage which makes sense...my question is does the modifier already get adding automatically or do you add it? so bounty hunter it shows 12 | 14 Greatsword (+4) 6 Slashing so is the roll 12 or do you still have to add the +4 making it 16?
In the example you're using the 12 and 14 are both the d20 roll plus all modifiers. In this case the virtual dice rolled an 8, the character had 2 STR mod, and 2 from proficiency for a total of 8+2+2=12
@BlazeLeeDragon The +4 next to Greatsword in this example is the total of modifiers being added to the dice roll. If you mouse over the final dice roll it will show you the dice result and all the calculations being added to it
Awesome video! Question... How do you re-order your Token Actions? Mine go in alphabetical order, but I'd prefer a layout like yours, with Initiative being first, then the weapons. I can't seem to rearrange the token actions.
Edit: You can disable the alphabetical sorting in the "My Settings" options above the chatbox. I dislike the alphabetical ordering as well but dont remember doing something specifically get around it. I'll jump in Roll20 after work and see what I can figure out for you.
@@spaceflows Try reordering the actions on the Attributes & Abilities page of the character sheet. I just changed the order there a few times and it looks to do so on the token as well. I dont believe this has always been the case, but they've made some recent updates.
@@OneCritWonder That's what's driving me nuts... I can't reorder them there. The three bars don't seem to be clickable. I get the directional symbol when hovering over the three bars, but can't move the the Ability.
Thanks for the great video. For the token actions, do you have to do this every time you create a new character, or is there a way to transfer it all from one character sheet to another?
For things like Inititiatve that every character will have, you can create a global token action in the game itself that will add for all tokens. For specifics like attacking or abilities, you'd need to move things over manually or duplicate the character sheet and then edit the copy.
I'm sorry I missed this comment. It seems to have been marked as potential spam by RUclips on my end and I didn't get notified. Let me know if there's anything I can still help with.
The 5e Roll20 sheet has a button at the top that you can click to toggle advantage on and off for everything. If you want a simple "advantage attack token action" button though I can write one when back on my PC
This is really great, but I can't get it working for monster tokens. Any thoughts? I can see the button show up as a token action but when I click on the action I just get a blank red line.
@@OneCritWonder So I have a gargoyle for an upcoming encounter. I set it up by dragging the Gargoyle from the Compendium and into my journal, then setting up a token for it. When I go to the Gargoyle's NPC sheet and click on an attack (Say, Bite) It rolls as normal. Then I press the up arrow to get the text and this is what appears: @{Gargoyle|wtype}&{template:npcatk} " + attack_flag + " {{damage=1}} {{dmg1flag=1}} @{Gargoyle|npc_name_flag} {{rname=[Bite](~-M8KzRil4GFGMAK6Mvi-|repeating_npcaction_-M8KzRvehhMx1pdccIA4_npc_dmg)}} {{rnamec=[Bite](~-M8KzRil4GFGMAK6Mvi-|repeating_npcaction_-M8KzRvehhMx1pdccIA4_npc_crit)}} {{type=[Attack](~-M8KzRil4GFGMAK6Mvi-|repeating_npcaction_-M8KzRvehhMx1pdccIA4_npc_dmg)}} {{typec=[Attack](~-M8KzRil4GFGMAK6Mvi-|repeating_npcaction_-M8KzRvehhMx1pdccIA4_npc_crit)}} {{r1=[[@{Gargoyle|d20}+(4+0)]]}} @{Gargoyle|rtype}+(4+0)]]}} {{description=}} @{Gargoyle|charname_output} If I put that into a Token Action as you showed, it just gives me a line. Yes, the stuff I show at 3:20 ish is for monster / NPCs. I got the code off the Roll20 wiki but you can also do the "press up" method after rolling something to retrieve it too.
thanks for the video! im trying to do this, but i cant drag things out of my char sheet (makro bar is enabled and visible). we are using the dark eye 4.1 character sheets. do i have to be DM in order to do this (from my understanding of your video, i dont have to be DM?). cant figure out whats preventing me from doing so. tokens are not yet linked to sheets (DM has to enable this for us but he didnt do it yet) .thankful for any tip
lets say i dont want to always roll a normal greatsword attack just like that, because i want to have the modification prompt show up whenever i click the greatsword makro. the up-arrow technique records the actual roll where i have to skip/enter the modification earlier, so this prompt is not recorded in the actual code in chat later. how do i get the modification prompt with my makro rolls? mod prompt does by default show up with an initiative roll makro (where you dont usually want it because, at least in dark eye, that will never change unless you switch weapons).. but not with attacks :^/
The drag/drop feature is usually associated with the Roll20 SRD sheet. I've not heard of Dark Eye but can mess with it today as a test to see what I can figure out.
@@izzschmed It sounds like you're wanting to use a Query function but I'm not 100% sure what you're after. Can you elaborate more and use specifics? What do you want the options to be when you click the button? What do you want the prompt to ask? Things like that.
@@OneCritWonder thanks for your super fast reply! in tabletop "Das Schwarze Auge / The Dark Eye" you can modify your roll in order to increase your attacks hitpoints, or generally certain weapons increase/decrease your initiative roll while using it (e.g. a pitchfork is no real weapon so your initiative roll is modified by -4 when using a pitchfork, whereas a combat staff is generally a good attack weapon and modifies your initiative roll by +1). same goes for any other talents/rolls. lets say you want to jump on a small rock, then you have to make a roll for your Agility talent. if the rock is bigger, the DM can ask you to roll for agility with modifier, e.g. 4. so it is harder to sucessfully roll for it, because what you are trying to do is a harder task than usual. like, a nearly impossible to climb rock is modified by (lets say) -10. you can still do it, but with super low probability. the black eye mechanics in roll20 allow to manually enter the modifications after clicking on AGILITY to roll. but if i then copy the code from chat, its always that Agility roll including that specific modification - OR it is the simple roll for agility. so, i want to makro a roll that prompts me to enter a modification and not include a possible modification from an earlier roll.
Thank you! This made DMing from my laptop so much easier! Question: why are my Character Token Action buttons appearing under the map layer. The buttons are only visible when I scroll up above the map, and then the buttons are non-interactive. I thought it was a Layer issue, but after testing, I am still stuck. Please help! (Anybody)
Glad to hear it made life easier. I've never heard of the buttons being under the map ( or any layer for that matter). Is it for all tokens? Has it always been that way or did it randomly start? Able to share a screenshot
I dont know; I'll need some more information or screenshots. Where are you trying to pull it from? Is your macro bar enabled? Which character sheet is the game using?
Hello and thank for your videos about Roll20 which ease my life ^^... But I've got a question you probably answer in the comments but don't want to read it all : In GM free mode, on Chrome, I've tried to put an attack in the Macro bar as a try and it works amazingly, thank you again ^^ ! But.... How could I ERASE it ? T'was just a try... Thank you for answering you or other and... as stay safe all of you ^^
When Roll20 rolls two numbers side by side its for Advantage / Disadvantage. You use the left number unless one of those implies in which case you use both and then take the appropriate result.
Depends on whether you're using an PC or an NPC sheet. An NPC's actions are used via %{selected|repeating_attack_$0_attack}. Keep in mind the first action on their sheet is 0, the second is 1, and so on. Assume a creature had Multiattack, Bite, and Claw as it's actions and Multiattack was one bite and two claw attacks. I'd use %{selected|repeating_attack_$1_attack} once and then %{selected|repeating_attack_$2_attack} twice in the same token action text box. The button will then make all three attacks.
@@1n20DnD Sometimes I label them as things like "Sword x2" but others I simply just use "Multi". Depends on what the creature is, whether I have it memorized, and how many actions it has.
@@OneCritWonder cool. That makes sense. I can't wait to try it out! I might be picking your brain on it tonight. LOL Does it work if you save the token that way, and then drag and drop the tokens on the map as needed?
@@1n20DnD Token actions are saved to the character sheet not to the token. Any token that is set to represent that sheet will have those actions appear in the upper left when you click on it. The important thing will be to make sure your default tokens are built right on the sheet--see my token setup video for that... or ask me tonight via Discord.
Good video, friend. But I have a problem: you explain how to ADD in the bottom macro bar, under the name of your avatar. But how do you CANCEL the commands that are useless or not wanted? I can' t do it, no matter how many times I tried. I even went to the macro menu, but they weren't there
If I understand what you're asking, you should be able to deselect 'In Bar' in the macro menu or simply mouse over the ride side of the button in the macro bare until your mouse turns into the four-way arrow and drag it off the bar. If not, let me know and I'll try to explain better.
OneCritWonder I already tried what you suggested. If I go in the macro menu (right-up corner, the three Lines near the option wheel icon), I can not find the commands that I added from the Character sheet. If I go indet my avatar, where all the shortcut commands are located, the cursor became a fourway as soon as I go to the far right of the command (as you suggested). But I can only switch the position, not eliminate the command
OneCritWonder an attack and a spell. I followed the beginning of this exact video: select the “longsword”, dragged down my avatar name, double click and renaimed
@@88Kinshin That's really weird. Any chance you could link a screenshot or something for me? You can always jump on my discord really quick so we dont have to chat via YT comments.
In the character sheet for whatever you're editing, you can select the option to automatically whisper rolls to the GM, never whisper rolls, or pop up a prompt asking which to do.

@@OneCritWonder Thanks, I`m learning over the use, I fixed the problem. Let me ask you another question, can I save a character, let the players use it but not to lose the original info?
@@migueldirnt8 You can either save the original in your vault before letting players use it... or duplicate the sheet first and then give one copy to the player and keep the other locked.

Is there a way to do this?
@@phoenixhazard There are a few ways to do this. I'm on mobile and cooking dinner so I'll give you some quick info and then see where you want to go from there: Go to the Attributes & Abilities tab like at 3:30 in the video. Unsure if you'd need a macro or if the sheet has a global damage modifier area like the D&D 5e sheet does.
Great video! Hope this isn't the only one you have on Roll20 tips. Will check out the rest. Cheers!
I have a couple but I'm always wanting to make more. If there is a specific Roll20 feature you have issues with or questions about just let me know!
Super helpful. Thanks for posting this.
Awesome! Let me know if I can help with anything else.
How do you remove the macro's created by dragging out of the character sheet?
I am loving everything else you have shown
There's a little tab on one side that you have to grab and drag it off the bar. You can't just click anywhere and drag despite the fact that it looks like it'd work.
@@OneCritWonder Thank you...it was a long day and the little things were getting me lol

Whats the name of map you are using right now?
I took an old map someone made for the Keep on the Shadowfell and then used it to create several custom dungeons for myself.
@@OneCritWonder Thanks for your answer, and thanks for your video it helpt me a loot
Hi mate, how do you clear the initial Great Sword attack that you created? I was following and it was usefull, but don't know how to clear the macro below?
From the macro quick bar on the lower left? Grab the tab on the right(?) side of the macro button. You can't just grab anywhere it has to be on the little edge tab then drag it off.
on the far right I see you are rolling both advantage and disadvantage which makes sense...my question is does the modifier already get adding automatically or do you add it?
so bounty hunter it shows
12 | 14
Greatsword (+4)
6 Slashing
so is the roll 12 or do you still have to add the +4 making it 16?
In the example you're using the 12 and 14 are both the d20 roll plus all modifiers. In this case the virtual dice rolled an 8, the character had 2 STR mod, and 2 from proficiency for a total of 8+2+2=12
@@OneCritWonder so the +4 stands for all the modifiers but those are already added in?
@BlazeLeeDragon The +4 next to Greatsword in this example is the total of modifiers being added to the dice roll.
If you mouse over the final dice roll it will show you the dice result and all the calculations being added to it
@@OneCritWonder thank you
Awesome video!
@@OneCritWonder Super cool. Thanks so much!
@@spaceflows Odd. I can drag them up and down by clicking there and just dragging it where I need it.
@@OneCritWonder Ok, thanks, for all the info.

Quick question. How to do a macro with advantage? My barbarian player loves to rage all the time. Thanks!

That's odd. Which method are you using for the macro text? Let me know any example monster and what's in the token action box.
Then I press the up arrow to get the text and this is what appears:
@{Gargoyle|wtype}&{template:npcatk} " + attack_flag + " {{damage=1}} {{dmg1flag=1}} @{Gargoyle|npc_name_flag} {{rname=[Bite](~-M8KzRil4GFGMAK6Mvi-|repeating_npcaction_-M8KzRvehhMx1pdccIA4_npc_dmg)}} {{rnamec=[Bite](~-M8KzRil4GFGMAK6Mvi-|repeating_npcaction_-M8KzRvehhMx1pdccIA4_npc_crit)}} {{type=[Attack](~-M8KzRil4GFGMAK6Mvi-|repeating_npcaction_-M8KzRvehhMx1pdccIA4_npc_dmg)}} {{typec=[Attack](~-M8KzRil4GFGMAK6Mvi-|repeating_npcaction_-M8KzRvehhMx1pdccIA4_npc_crit)}} {{r1=[[@{Gargoyle|d20}+(4+0)]]}} @{Gargoyle|rtype}+(4+0)]]}} {{description=}} @{Gargoyle|charname_output}
If I put that into a Token Action as you showed, it just gives me a line. Now I figure this is totally the wrong text haha. It is obviously very long.
That being said, I just tested it with a Dire Wolf and it is working.

Can I use token actions with monsters? I'm trying to create some in the mosters sheets, but I can`t. Maybe I'm doing something.
Thanks
Yes, the stuff I show at 3:20 ish is for monster / NPCs. I got the code off the Roll20 wiki but you can also do the "press up" method after rolling something to retrieve it too.
thanks for the video! im trying to do this, but i cant drag things out of my char sheet (makro bar is enabled and visible). we are using the dark eye 4.1 character sheets. do i have to be DM in order to do this (from my understanding of your video, i dont have to be DM?). cant figure out whats preventing me from doing so. tokens are not yet linked to sheets (DM has to enable this for us but he didnt do it yet) .thankful for any tip
i can, however, place makros with the "up arrow" technique
lets say i dont want to always roll a normal greatsword attack just like that, because i want to have the modification prompt show up whenever i click the greatsword makro. the up-arrow technique records the actual roll where i have to skip/enter the modification earlier, so this prompt is not recorded in the actual code in chat later. how do i get the modification prompt with my makro rolls? mod prompt does by default show up with an initiative roll makro (where you dont usually want it because, at least in dark eye, that will never change unless you switch weapons).. but not with attacks :^/

Thank you for answering you or other and... as stay safe all of you ^^
Why does it give two separate rolls? Like it rolls 2 d20s for the attack. Which do I use?
When Roll20 rolls two numbers side by side its for Advantage / Disadvantage. You use the left number unless one of those implies in which case you use both and then take the appropriate result.
@@OneCritWonder thanks so much!!
Any suggestion on how to indicate multi attack on the tokens or token actions?
Depends on whether you're using an PC or an NPC sheet. An NPC's actions are used via %{selected|repeating_attack_$0_attack}. Keep in mind the first action on their sheet is 0, the second is 1, and so on. Assume a creature had Multiattack, Bite, and Claw as it's actions and Multiattack was one bite and two claw attacks. I'd use %{selected|repeating_attack_$1_attack} once and then %{selected|repeating_attack_$2_attack} twice in the same token action text box. The button will then make all three attacks.
@@OneCritWonder and then maybe label the macro as "claw, claw, bite" or "2 sword swings" or something else appropriate?
@@1n20DnD Sometimes I label them as things like "Sword x2" but others I simply just use "Multi". Depends on what the creature is, whether I have it memorized, and how many actions it has.
@@OneCritWonder cool. That makes sense. I can't wait to try it out! I might be picking your brain on it tonight. LOL
Does it work if you save the token that way, and then drag and drop the tokens on the map as needed?
