The 'It takes about 2 years' to get paid comment at the end was so unexpectedly funny 🤣
And it was Desi's spit-take that cracked me up!
I'm cracking up here fam 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why did you spoil the video mfer ffs
When she asked I knew it would be a long time but I didn't know it would be that long. Likely this lets the ticket go through the court system and any appeals or delays.. the agreement probably states that the activists are paid when the ticket is paid.
Waiting for 100k isnt that bad
These comments are all about Desi but let's talk about George man, he was a natural in that interview.
Agree. He was uncommonly comfortable playing along with Desi's game.
He reminded me of James Cameron. Now we know how he's been financing all those Avatar sequels!
That's the thing. Companies now are forcing drivers to lease their own trucks so the drivers are the owners of the trucks not the companies. So the companies skirt the fine.
@@Keegs- bro's brain broke
Amazon is doing that now and even charging $30K+ for the truck owners to join as an affiliate. That way, nothing the drivers do affects Amazon. They are terrible.
So private folks will be more careful.... not wasting gas and wear and tear. Less altruistic but effective.
@@janefreeman995it's just more movement to turning each employee into an independent contractor working for the companies. It's really rather dystopian.
Well then those drivers should be thanking them for saving them fuel cost.
For a bit in my early twenties I was dock supervisor at a newspaper (remember newspapers?). I was singly in charge of the loading dock (from which newspapers left the presses to be further dispersed within the city.) Trucks would often pull up in front of the dock doors, blocking the only source of ventilation, with engines running and just sit there for great lengths of time gassing everyone around. I sometimes instructed the drivers to turn off their engines and was invariably brushed aside or laughed away. “Who are you, kid? Go away.” “I’m the dock supervisor. I’m in charge of the dock and all that goes on in it.” It would have been delicious if Rockford had had an ordinance banning truck idly and cellphones had been invented.
Uh you're joking right? You really let them blast you with gas? How hard is it to inform them "We don't unload vehicles that are still running" You don't need the government to swoop in and save you. Just be a man. $50 says you're a Californian.
Yeah, like what he said, “it’s our policy that all trucks must be shut off before unloading.” I bet this dude is literally kicking himself right now 😂
I worked at a Starbucks in a grocery store. People would park in the fire lane and sometime leave their car running. I would refuse them service until they actually went and parked their car.
It’s always driven me crazy seeing anyone leave a vehicle idling for no reason whatsoever. I once had a tv repair man leave his van running in my driveway for an hour while he fixed my TV, just because.
you didnt say anything? i woulda told him to shut it off or leave
TV repair man? Are you going back to the 1960s?
I can understand a delivery driver since they have a time limit and are usually right in front of the spot they need to be in ( quick unloading and drop off), but being inside fixing a tv. Were they not worried about their vehicle being stolen lol.
I live in a ground-floor flat (yes, in London, that's why I say "flat"). Some of my windows open over the end of a close in the middle of a big housing estate. The summer I was sweating over my MA dissertation, some dude who'd moved back in with his grandmother on the close would spend HOURS sitting in his idling car parked right UNDER my window, often on the phone and sometimes doing balloons and giggling inanely. So even without the idling engine, it would have been an immense irritation, but the engine was IDLING.
The following summer it was lockdown, and everything that was happening on the close got about 100% worse.
To be fair, if you live in a country where someone could shoot you, you don't really have time to start the engine.
“Any Nark-Yorker” 🤣🤣🤣
I appreciate that it's 3minute+ long, and not just a snapshot.
So you just don't get some random picture of a guy who just parked for a delivery.
this is true. I'm afraid I would get murdered if I did this in LA.
He too should turn his engine off.
@@quineloe oh yes obviously. But it gives a bit more legitimacy to this.. program?
@@jawstrock2215 "this.... program" is called the law.
It's still a bad law because it goes after low hanging fruit (companies). Millions more cars idle everyday in traffic congestion & drive-thrus. No one is fining those even though they contribute to pollution (maybe even more than delivery vehicles because there are more commuter cars than delivery vehicles)
Its not unreasonable to want to breath clean air!
How dare you want such a thing!
I know I'm spoiled 😂 Especially since I only have the "free with ads" subscription to breathing.
Covid lock downs were some of our cleanest air times in merica.
See? 7 billion humans actually DO have an impact on the planet they all exist on.
Imagine that 🙄
Have you ever been a driver? In Midwest winters? In Florida summers? Is it too much to ask to not freeze, or pass out from heat exhaustion, while eating your lunch? Also carbon emissions go down when a one year old is in the back seat in 98 degree weather when you’re sitting in a drive thru, and you’re running the A/C. Why stop at actual professional drivers that you rely on to transport your Amazon package? Why not just outlaw heating and cooling in cars? Does that seem unreasonable? So does your argument against idling to anyone that has ever done any real work in their lives.
@@mattdobson7598 Companies shouldn't require their drivers to eat in cars. Next question.
She is naturally funny.
We don't know how many takes it took her tho 😸
@@arj-peace Wow we have complete opposite perspectives. First the positive, she's been a loyal and supporting member of TDS for many years and seems like a genuine caring person to all her co-workers and brings a lot of family feeling to the cast. Now the bitter pill: She is a mediocre comedy talent and has to lean so heavily on this very corporate friendly populist feminism memes which makes the lack of talent and substance so evident. This segment another demonstration, and I admit this was a comedy desert so I give her some slack. But to make an isn't Jake Gylenhaal hot joke (which bombed deservedly) which, and I dont want to be one of those whiny people that does this all the time, if the genders where reversed it would just be a creepy remark. I dont really care about that except that it shows how phony her corporate brand of feminism really is.
On top of that to pick Jake Gylenhaal as your hotman reference?! Either you have not done your homework and didn't read Dominica Feraud's The Moviestar and Me or was aware of it, or she did and she is actually being an accomplice to predatory behaviour so she or the show keeps access and does a favour to Jake Gyllenhaal's agent and publisher. Both options are pretty sad.
The best of the rotating desk was without any shadow of a doubt Roy Wood Jr. and its a crime that they didnt come begging on their knees if he would please take over the show. Another thing we should really reconsider is drive throughs. So much unnecessary pollution when people could literally just go wait inside an already air conditioned, often empty restaurant.
It might depend though, like has this been studied? I've heard it depends on how much time you idle for, since starting up the engine, at least I was told it used to, use more gas than idling for a few minutes. If I'm wrong, I totally agree with you. I don't need to be right, I care more about what's best for the environment.
@@beebuzz959For most modern vehicles, all it takes is 30 seconds of idling to be worth turning the engine off.

We have a bill in committee for applying this to illegally parked cars.
Great, you're a lawmaker! Include the combustion vehicles parked illegally in front of electric charging spots.. they call it 'ICEing'. Imagine if someone just put a boat in front of your gas station spot.. now, what kind of learning curve will it take the US to electrify? There is a city in China where 40% of the cars are already Electric, and Norway is banning the sale of combustion vehicles in 2025 - Sweden is doing the same, and more countries need to follow. China's EV production is making this possible. By the way, we've known the need to electrify for more than 35 years. This shows the power of oil company corruption. I liken this to WW-C World war climate change. We're all in it whether you like it or not, light 2020 with the virus. California is banning combustion vehicles in 2035.. how do you win a war by responding 10 years later? That's the best the US has? If we are to lead the world, we need to take it seriously. Let's find lawmakers and emergency responders to all get EVs.. start from the top. There are efforts to electrify all school buses and metros as well. Everything will get easier from there.
@@PhilipX2030 Seeing so many of your comments is making want to go do that. Electric car sales are down in the us and they are losing their value faster the ice vehicles.

Desi nails it again! Comedy gold.
They should introduce this everywhere. It's not a big ask to turn off your engine.
It can be, if you’re car homeless in harsh cold or heat
I'd like to see a study done. because every time you turn off an engine the electric fuel pump cycles through a prime cycle that pushes more fuel into the system for starting. so it could be that if it's only going to be idling for say 3 or 4 min it might be close to the amount pushed into it during the first few seconds of ignition to run so rich that it produces near the same pollutant as the idling for a short time could cause.
@@Hobodeluxe007 They did the study before they decided on the 3 minutes and 10 seconds.
@@charlieRcarter That is compounding one problem with another.
Many states have idling laws but many states don’t. Also the states that do have certain times. Like New York is 3 minutes but South Carolina is 10 minutes.
I’ll be honest. I’ve left my car idling while working. I used to leak survey (outside field work) in Vegas where it gets triple digits every day in the summer. So for lunch i would have to look for shade and blast my AC so I don’t die in there. I couldn’t have my AC without the engine idling so I was pretty much forced to.
The only other alternative to doing that is eating out every day so that I can eat inside of an establishment but I just cant afford that. I have to pack lunch and eat inside my car.
People: Gas is too expensive!
Also People: It takes too long to turn off my car.
I'm all for that to prevent you know that extra pollution but we all know what companies do to employees that cause them expenses. There's no way it doesn't come back on the driver
THIS....if you wanna pay my unemployment by all means carry on.
most trucking companies likely never penalize drivers over idling tickets because most likely instruct drivers to never shut the truck off
The people leaving the vehicle running for no reason are the problem, not the company. If they do it while driving for Amazon, who is to say they won't do it with their own cars. If someone is in danger of losing their job for idling the company car, then great - it will teach them better habits.

very reasonable, however there should be a stipulation for some exceptions when the weather is very cold or very hot to also protect workers who are working outdoors
That but also make it to where companies can’t illegally retaliate when they’re notified about a truck or car receiving a fine… in other words make it to where a random worker doesn’t get fired and lose their livelihood because Amazon has to pay a 200$ dollar fine. Because that absolutely WOULD do that if they could.

America is the only place I’ve been that people will leave their vehicle running while they go inside 7eleven or the grocery store. Bizarre.
Happens in Japan all the time too.
I guess that tiny flick of the wrist to turn the ignition on and off is too much exercise for Americans.
From a small place so have never really noticed that. I do see cars being idle when one person is waiting in the car ( guilty of that myself at times) just so they have the AC on while waiting for the other person, but never unattended. That is just asking for trouble ( either accidentally locking yourself out with a running engine or someone stealing your vehicle).
Happens here in the UK too. :/
The majority of the wear and tare on your engine occurs when you start it. Is idling bad for the environment? Sure. But so is manufacturing replacement engine parts and throwing away broken parts. I can't figure out why people think the emission from a car engine is the only part of the process that is detrimental to the environment. Bizarre.
I mean ... they say the drivers don't pay, but I guarantee any driver getting these fines is going to end up getting fired / punished in someway.
Can’t wait for Marvel Studio’s release of the *Idle Warriors* 😂
All NY registered trucks after a certain manufacture year automatically shut off if left idling for over a certain time.
Many trucks do even outside NY
that's simply not true... plenty of heavy trucks have automatic shutdown, but it's not just always active, you have to choose to turn that system on... doubtful any refrigerated truck ever has an auto-shut down activated... nor would anyone activate it in cold weather
@@wachinpntdry. great point

I’ve automatically turned off my car when I sit longer than 2 mins if waiting on someone, and never leave it running when I leave the car. If it’s cold enough that I need to let it run before I leave to warm it up, maybe 2 mins tops.
My Prius shuts itself off while I wait in line for food when it is cold out. It turns back on when the heat inside falls below a set degrees. That is an advantage of hybrids.
That’s another thing we really should reconsider: drive throughs. So much unnecessary pollution when people could literally just go wait inside an already air conditioned restaurant.
I park my Prius and shut it off before going inside to wait for my food. That way there's no engine turning on while I'm idling to keep a certain temperature or just keep the hybrid battery from discharging too much.

@@beebuzz959 depends on the type of engine, age of the vehicle, type of vehicle, etc. diesel engines, as an example, are a little more finicky than gasoline engines when it comes to the start-up process. This is exemplified with large engines like you have in delivery vehicles or trucks. Newer vehicles it is less of an excuse because of modern technology and a lot of them even have engine cut-offs for when you're stopped at a light and the engine will turn off after a set amount of time.
3+ minutes of recording is pretty fair. Yes, it's long, but any shorter penalizes people who are just doing quick dropoff/pickup.
Hope to get more of these laws in other cities!

classiest spit take ever! ❤😂
We don't need such a law where I live. If you leave your car running and go into a store, it just won't be there when you come back out! Seriously though, keep in mind that semi trucks with a refrigerated trailer have to keep the engine idling so that the refrigeration works. Those trailers are not insulated, so even being shut off for 15 minutes can cause a massive temperature change in the trailer on a warm day.
1:51 If this bounty is as real as it sounds, that's literally 3 snitches/day to make $100k/year. That's a pretty decent side hustle for bicyclist delivery workers.
Thanks for standing up for your community!
Another side of the story: Idle start-stop features can have negative effects on components like the battery, starter motor, and turbo. Frequent start/stop may also negate the benefit of fuel savings.
then the industry needs to make cars that are better at complying with the law.

Big rigs might even be different, especially if they've got refrigerated cabinets in back. If there's been a complete study done and turning it on and off again is better, then yes, that's what the law should be. And yes, they need better vehicles for sure! The state of Florida had a law prohibiting the idling of 8,500+ lb. vehicles that was REPEALED during a process of a comprehensive rule review in late 2011. The rule review was performed in accordance with Governor Rick Scott’s Executive Order 11-0, “Suspending Rulemaking and Establishing the Office of Fiscal Accountability and Regulatory Reform.” The purpose of the annual rule review is to identify rules that are “duplicative, unnecessarily burdensome, or no longer necessary.” The rationale given for the repeal of the idling law was, “Market incentives for diesel fuel cost savings render the anti-idling requirements of Rule 62-285.420, F.A.C., unnecessary.”
So, Rick Scott actually reversed the progress. Not surprising at all for him.
I've gotten one of these in New York City as a general contractor at a construction site. Our welding truck has to be on to power the crane and welding machine. Someone faking being on it run stops starts recording videotapes for a minute while pretending to tie their shoe and then runs away without ever talking to anyone. They're not interested in saving the environment they just want money. I fought it in court and it got dismissed but this happens to vehicles that need to be running too.

The objective is to reduce the problem where it can be reduced. Nobody is saying, no more idling vehicles, will eliminate air pollution.
Your argument appears to be, because we can't eliminate all air pollution, we shouldn't even bother reducing what we can easily reduce.

Desi Lydic 😍
In Singapore car owners are fined $5000 USD equivalent if they leave their vehicle idling
Needless to say I did not see any cars idling while I was there 😂
We have something similar in Europe. It's called common sense. If you don't drive... Turn off the engine. 😂
Same with electronic devices. I've been to almost every continent. In the US the TV runs even if no one is at home. In my country lots of people even unplug the devices when they are not used because the devices consume power in stand-by mode.
On the other side.... Power and petrol is way more expensive than in the US.... Maybe you can educate people by raising taxes on these things.
Desi is so great! They should make her the full-time host.
So it makes sense to an extent- if you have a delivery job- or some sort of job where you’re in, out, drive a very short bit then back out, back in, short drive, etc etc etc, then turning your engine off and on, off and on, off and on, etc is going to WRECK your engine (not to mention burn up a larger amount of fuel) compared to if you had just kept your engine idling.
I completely get it and agree for people who are sitting in their vehicles for hours on end- just idling for no reason…
But for people working? It’s just … restrictive.
disagree - i think thats a myth
They said in the video that you have to video the vehicle idling for 3 min 10 seconds. Idk how long it takes to get out of the car, drop whatever and get back in, but it seems like something you could accomplish in less than that time. Not to mention the odds of them catching you exactly as you park are low, so I think this is more aimed at catching longer idling times. Plus it could get more delivery vans switched to electric
I guess that's why they had the three minutes and ten seconds thing
You’ll wreck your battery for sure.
This does make a bit of sense....(for quick delivery people) especially when parking spots are in really high demand. It lets other drivers know that you will be right out and leaving in just a moment.
this woman makes me laugh!
Turning off and turning back on again a big delivery truck (especially) is its own pollution problem. kinda like reheating the oven from zero to 400 degrees every time you stop.and start again. Takes a lot more energy than just keepin it warm.
Electrify. Also, it is a law and it has been tested. People need to be aware of the law, and follow it. Why are people so selfish? Leadership and corruption. I'm glad NYC is enforcing. I live in Massachusetts and a couple of times a year take trips down to NYC, they might just start paying for themselves...in about 2 years.
This should be everywhere!
Idle play 😂😂
This is so awesome!
Those companies will just fire the drivers!
Not the ethical drivers
Companies have been having a hard time getting drivers, so much so that they got the age of who can be one lowered. It used to be age 25 because that's when our brains can handle traumatic situations better, like in an accident, since they can become giant weapons aimed at a bunch of drivers. I'm sure the companies will do what they can to penalize the drivers though, but I think they're still desperate for drivers.
Actually it is a pet peeve of mine - the idling. Here in California they often run the car while waiting because of the airconditioner. Although I get that you want to keep that cool air, I am forced to breathe in their cancer-causing exhaust.
Just had jury duty. Guess what i saw at the courthouse 10 cop cars with the car idling, not only is it bad for the environment but we as tax payers re paying for that gas. SMH
This can never happen in Oakland, your vehicle will be gone before you can even blink 😅
Desi is always on!
