A US friend of mine has had IBS her entire life. She came to Europe for a semester and her symptoms almost entirely disappeared. Turns out that food quality, additives, antibiotics, added salt, sugar and fat might in fact have an impact on your health. Who could've guessed?

this is interesting, my wife's IBS pretty much stopped when she moved from the US to the UK. It was also stress related her work was more chill in Europe. But she said something the other day about it being very much the difference in food and diet...
The same thing happened to me while stationed in Japan. I stopped eating on post and all my heartburn, IBS, and acid reflux went away. I also dropped from 18% body fat to 6%.
Get national health care and we too can have health food. They'll have more incentive to keep us healthy.

I agree! Fun fact- Jon is not only vegan, he owns a farm animal sanctuary! Maybe the New York style pizza that he loved so much in the past has a veganized version? I still love pizza, I just make sure it is vegan.

Ok I was confused about the Dunkin Donuts thing so I had to look it up. So apparently it was Titanium Dioxide aka Titanium White. It is apparently inconclusive on the health effects when ingested or inhaled (like when you breath in before taking that bite of the donut), but a lot of European Countries have banned it as a precaution as a food-grade pigment.
Also in prepared gravy. And sunscreen.

I'm pretty sure it's commonly used to make medicine tablets white as well.
Titanium dioxide is what I put in my homemade soap to whiten it. I didn't realize that it was edible in any way. Well, it probably isn't.

We actually began avoiding most fast food 4-5 years ago. We feel better, lost weight. Have much better yearly check ups.
Feel even more better and be healthier and Go Vegan 🌱 like Jon Stewart. He's so natural he won't color his hair or even use Grecian formula. Smart man. Read his wife's first book.

I worked for dunkin, before I left they started going away from a bakery making the donuts and delivering them to each store fresh in the morning to having a factory make cake rings and flash freeze them, it’s all for their bottom line.
As a European, all those ads showing "food" oozing with fat, sugar, salt, chemicals, bright colors just make me feel nauseous. Would you believe that, in the EU, we have regulations about which chemicals and additives can be put in foods or drinks? And "nutriscore" labels? And daily TV ads telling us not to snack all day and to eat more fruit and veggies? I am sure Americans could find that this infringes their constitutional freedoms, but the fact is our life expectancy is more than 5 years longer than yours. There is a reason.

Kraft doesn't add yellow dye #5-6 in the UK. It's actually supposed to be white. It's illegal there. Think about why? 🧐 🤔
So many US foods are banned in other countries...
In the USA we have different preferred colors for cheese (mostly cheddar) depending upon the area. East Coast is white, middle of the country is a mix of white and yellow, while West Coast prefers yellow. Of course the yellow is mostly from anatto, a natural coloring.

YUP. I am allergic to artificial dyes and various ones can range from a mild migrain to being bedridden for anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months with flu symptoms, depending on which dye and how much is in my system.
It's insanely expensive to avoid them, and that's just ONE thing. It's even more expensive to avoid the other issues like antibiotics in meat, pesticides leftover in produce, and whatever that "freshness" chemical is we put in our bread that causes cancer.

What's frightening is there has been a steady increase of colorectal cancer in people under 50 for at least the last two decades. And it's only getting worse. Get your colonoscopy if you are over 45, or earlier, if you have symptoms or family history. It can be cured if found in early stages. Yes, colonoscopy prep is no fun, but chemo is even less fun.
I had stage 3 colon cancer at 34. The drs were kinda shocked.

These days, even seemingly healthy young people who lead an active lifestyle and watch their diet get diagnosed with late stage colon cancer. No family history, no symptoms (until it’s too late)-it just comes out of the blue.
It’s no wonder the screening age has been lowered to 45. Unfortunately, it appears to not be low enough.
Statistics says that you are in fact, wrong. gis.cdc.gov/Cancer/USCS/#/Trends/ Not only has the overall number gone down but the rate of cancer has gone down. While you should do what you can to be health, correlation does not equal causation, especially if that correlation never existed because the facts were made up.

For starters, I love Arby's and I was searching through some old papers and found a newspaper section I had saved for a particular article. Also in that section were the house for sale listings. The paper was from June, 1995 in the suburbs of Peoria, Illinois. I found a house listing that included in its description-"close to hospital, park, and Arby's'. I busted out laughing!

Arby’s rebranded in the last couple of years and their menu changes are amazing. I used to think Arby’s was the worst possible food you could eat (at one time it probably was) but now, Arby’s kind of slaps, not gonna lie. Baked chicken, Mac and cheese and steamed broccoli with a soft warm muffin. Where else you getting that from a drive thru? And the quality remains very consistent every time I go.

I have noticed that fewer and fewer fast-food restaurants sell salads these days. You can't even choose a healthier entree.

Maybe a tad off topic. Heard a new term yesterday (5/2) in that congressional hearing about inflation/corporate over-profits.
"Skimpflation" is the word, and it's where they lower the quality of the ingredients. Not the same thing as shrinkflation.
It's in addition to shrinkflation, and that's accounting for slight flavor and texture changes. Kinda like how Twinkies were never the same when they came back.

don’t know if meatless is necessary. I’d say humanely raised, grass fed, free range is primary. That said, I eat very little meat. Lately however, I’ve been turning off to even THAT amount of meat.

Food in the USA is terrible. At least that's what my American friends, and everyone I know who has visited the USA tell me. I wouldn't waste my time going there to find out - there's Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, India, Portugal, France, Italy ... so many places to go for decent food.
