Whoever engineered the frames of those trucks is a genius. It’s incredible they don’t bend like a boiled spaghetti noodle. Those engines put out over 3,000 foot pounds of torque.
Crazy to think about the torque of that motor just twisting half the frame up into the air against the resistance of the load. Such a visceral display of power.

@@ColeWK99 I got that I was just joking about the truckers in Montana. I was there visiting and the drivers there do 60 MPH on sheer ice pulling three trailers. When the weather is nice they do 80.
Interesting seeing how much more controllable the cabover seems on launch, presumably the shorter wheelbase means more weight from the trailer is on the front axle keeping the wheels on the ground. I still prefer the look of a conventional truck but in this context a cabover layout seems useful.
@@treeman2660 truck frames are designed to twist like that so they dont break the engine mounts they have so much torque that if they didn't twist they would actually snap the frames

Man, they sadly would never allow this in California so I'll have to go out and see it wherever it's still allowed. One thing that is probably a bummer for Diesel lovers (hey, I'm one of them) is the new Electric wave really should have combined with them long ago similar to Locomotive tech. I could only Imagine a Tesla Semi in this race silently just blitzing everything off the line (of course, going to need a top up after each run to keep charged, but still.) One thing that I do like about the Electric Semi's is going over the mountain pass here in CA on HW80, Tesla Semi's don't slow down going up the hill. That's something that is pretty neat to see. Torque in all forms is one hell of a drug.
You should check out Edison Motorsports here on RUclips. They're using a CAT motor like a generator charging the batteries to run all the electrical components of the tractor. They're also coming out with retro-fit kits for regular pickups.

No, you’re wrong. These aren’t your typical tractor trailers. The ones that haul a good majority of the products across US and Canada have such strict emissions requirements that in many of the bigger cities the “exhaust” from a typical diesel engine is cleaner than the air it takes in. I couldn’t wrap my brain around that when I first heard about it but numerous diesel techs have told me that it’s a true fact. Problem is that most research and development is subsidized by taxpayer dollars, controlled by the federal government hence, just like pharmaceutical companies and universities, if the federal government’s narrative is not adhered to government funding and private investment attached to ESG scores is immediately cut. Can’t do much research outside of government “guild lines” without the necessary capital investments.
What is so amazing to me about these races is how strong the clutches, transmissions, and rear axles have to be in order to withstand the incredible amount of torque being put through them .
I would love to see the Tesla Semi try this. Every video Tesla fanboys post shows the Tesla accelerating with what is likely an empty trailer, or passing a diesel that's just cruising along minding their own business.

And two trucks I'd love to see in the mix, against each other and against the diesels: Edison Motors (in Canada) truck, Topsy (diesel electric hybrid), and a Tesla semi. That is a race I'd like to see. Also was nice to see some COEs and even an older L 8000 or two (I didn't watch all of it) I'd hate to be a U-joint on one of those lol!

Well, he bought one 6 months ago and hasn't said anything negative about it and will likely never say anything good about it after 6 years of saying he'd never buy or drive one.
Many new drivers out on the road do not have a manual drive endorsement,only automatic. It sucks because the company I drive for are hiring these drivers,but we have a few manual trucks for backups. I'm the only driver besides my supervisor that can drive a manual,it causes major problems when we have a break down and the manual has to be used.
I drove an Allison automatic twin screw straight truck for harvest, but love our sticks! Our 1986 International was a semi, but converted to a straight truck and our 1986 Freightliner is a semi. Our boys can also drive stick and we all have our CDLs. Well 4 out of 5, but we know our youngest would have gotten his

That’s because black smoke equals unburnt diesel fuel. A high pressure good capture/recirculation technique helps (with extra cooling fans I noticed).
