That's good to know. Right now I still have TB Stealth 700 gen 2, but it has been giving me issues for months now. It's time for something else. But I DO like a good bass. Sounds like that's where the EQ comes in.
Hi, great content, as always. But just a question about the steelseries, I have a Windows PC but I work mostly on Linux, on which I wont be able to install anything. Does the Sonar Software Microphone settings save to the headset, so that I can configure it on Windows, but people at work will still be able to hear me right? Just to make it clear, of course I will game a lot, mainly fps, with it, but I also need it for work Anyways thanks a lot!!!
Gotta say, using the stealth 700 gen 2 since release and love it. Nothing till now was able to compare, first the clamping force was bit higher, got a big head, but after a week or so,.. Its the most comfortable headset i ever head on my head! Sounds great, microphone is great! Bet the nova is amazing too.. Thanks for making this video, I'll go right in now.
Between the Sony Pulse 3D, the Steelseries Nova 7 and the Turtle Beach 700 Gen 2 max my favorite one is... The Turtle Beach... Great sound, good mic and pretty comfortable. The sound can easily be adjusted with the app on your Smartphone. The Sony Pulse 3D is still a good headset for the money but you can hear the difference when you try a more premium headset. As for the Nova 7, the sound is really very clear but I really don't like how the bass sound...it also hurts my ears... So for those hesitating between the 2, it really depends on the kind of bass you like... If you prefer more punchy, home cinema style (and I would say more natural) bass, then go for the Turtle beach. If you're not into bass and prefer a very clear sound, go for the Steelseries...
I just got the Nova pros when they were on sale for $100 off (used your link). I was debating between those and the TB 700's but the sale made up my mind. Thanks for the honest reviews!
Decided to go with the TB 700 Max. Love them. Thanks Techne. After hours Of research , I felt confident in these, and your review solidified my purchase.
Gotta agree, just got my TB Stealth 700 G2 Max last week and had no problems whatsoever! Easy to upgrade firmware (important), awesome sound (using Dolby Atmos), great Mic and Battery Life and after wearing it for a week it's super comfy and fits perfectly! I can definitely recommend the TBs to anyone. Also no connection errors or anything. First time I really have to recommend TBs! Go get them, you won't be Disappointed
I am saying this from experience. I bought them about a year and half ago. Before that I had also bought some steelseries 7p 2 months prior to the turtle beach and the steelseries are still working. I just threw them away like 3 days ago. The turtle beach headset had cracked a little like 2 months ago I used duck tape and super glue to keep from cracking further. They sound very good but the material is cheap.
Couple of my xbox friends use these since release and non of them had any issues so far. All of them, including me are satisfied with the Gen2 Max. That's why I recommend them.
I picked up the turtle beach 700 gen 2s for all the features and games I play and my one gripe was I have a big head but when you showed me in a different video to bend them outwards. Worked perfectly and now I love them!
I picked up the Nova Pro Wireless on sale from Amazon for $240ish. After an hour of going back and forth with my Penrose X, I put my Penrose back in their box. The Nova’s are awesome!
@@jasminahmetovic140 I have never used Audeze but I have loved my Arctis 9 and now my Nova Pros on my PS5, ps4, switch, phone, and computer. Keeping in mind that phone cannot take advantage of lossless connection
@@jasminahmetovic140 definitely a big upgrade. There is one downside being that the nova pro does not offer 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound for some reason. If you play on pc, it’s okay since you can use sonar and that imo is better. But for console, you’d have to rely on PS5’s 3D audio, which is really good, just not surround sound good
I love ur videos so don’t take this the wrong way but I feel like every headset is ur favorite. And maybe there are just a ton of headsets out there that are great haha thanks
It is very difficult to know your favorite headset among these great groups of headsets. there is no headset that has all the features, and at the same time, these features are better than any other headset in each feature
Funny thing is I just picked up the Gen 2 Max's last night. Will be using them this evening. I do already own the Gen2's but really liked the cobalt blue/copper look. Great video, and fit right in with my decision making. Thanks much!!
Good choice but you should of picked up the astro a30 wireless there awesome my nova pro wireless are sitting i in the closet try them you will thank me latter
@@jamesstevens968 Thanks for the comment. I actually did have the A30 Wireless for about a week before returning them for the Gen2 MAX. I 100% agree with you on the sound part. I loved the way they sounded, but the comfort was another thing. They just got way too hot for my preference. I've grown not to like leatherette material. Other than that they were indeed awesome.
I'm in complete agreement. I love my TB Stealth Gen 2 Max (damn they need better names) and the Arctis Nova 7x. They are both amazing and work wirelessly on virtually everything. Plus having a dedicated dongle for Xbox now means way way better connection stability. You really can't go wrong at these price points.
@@LordVulkan This may seem like a very diplomatic answer, but I believe they both have their places. TB is more bass heavy and is better for things like footsteps in my opinion. Nova 7x is more of a general all around performer. Comfort wise again is about preference. TB have more clamp force, but they are way better than before. The TB did recently have a firmware update as well.
About the Stealth 700 max. I have an ugly and big head and man.... the clamping force was heavy. I was so sad and contacted Turtle Beach about it. They said give it a little time, put it on a big book or something when you dont use it and it will be streched and much more confortable. I gave it a shot and they were totally right, i love it now and i love the cooling gel-infused ear pads, its a wonderful thing.
For me durability is the major issue. Every Turtle Beach headset I've had has broken on me including the stealth 700 gen 2 no matter how careful I've been with them within less than 2 years. So I think my next pair is going to be the Steelseries and hopefully they'll last longer.
Hi Sir , Love your videos. I have the audeze penrose x at the moment and absolutely love it! The sound quality is insane. Is there any gaming headset that performes better (soundwise) i would love to hear it from you as you are the absolute expert. Thanks again for the great videos , love them!❤
Hey mate , loving the content keep up the great work , what’s your take on the Astro a30 ??? Do you recommend them over the Nova 7 or turtle beach gen 7max? Thanks
Love the videos bro. Whats your best recommendation for wireless heads atm, all in all? im wanting the Audeze but im wondering about options and the range issues of the Penrose
Wow I’ve literally been debating between these two headsets. So have many others. I’ve had both and returned one 3 days ago. The winner in my kind was TB. My decision was based solely on playing call of duty. Foot steps were simply louder and directional audio was more clear. I wanted to like the novas more because they seem built better and higher quality but I loved how the turtle beach has an app on phones. Mic is slightly better on thr TB but I do feel like mic sensitivity is better on SS. That’s the one thing I don’t like about the TB. Can’t go wrong with either one! Nice review
Nice one, the TB do look/sound quality are pretty awesome, i went Nova 3s because it was a good mid price and sound/mic quality, although think next headset i'll definitely go with some TB.
Hello Jeff, long time no see. But yes. I have Nova 7x, Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max, and even got a pretty good price on the Stealth 600 Gen 2 Max for fun. Might sound crazy, but I may keep them all, at least for a few months until I truly determine what soothes my soul the best.
LETS GO!! Keep using our Audeze Penrose! Still waiting for some sound competition for the Penrose. Looks like two solid headsets though. Good to see turtle beach can compete with steelseries too
Hey man. I’m looking to buy my first wireless headset to use on my ps5 to primary play Fortnite with. I want to stay around $100. What would you suggest? I’ve been looking at the SteelSeries Nova 5’s ($106) , Corsair HS55’s($79) ,Turtle Beach Stealth 500 ($79), Turtle Beach Stealth 600 ($88). Which would you recommend or is there one at my price point I’m missing. Thanks in advance if you respond. I would definitely appreciate it.
Hey Techne, I am currently looking for a new headset for the Xbox Series X. How does the Arctis 7X+ compare to the Nova 7X? Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for the help in choosing between these two headset. I went with the TB, because you said it might sound better with borderlands 3. I own a set of the SteelSeries Arctis 7P, but lost the dongle for them and it will cost me almost $100 (Canadian dollars)with shipping to get a new one. If I could have gotten the dong with free shipping I would have just replaced the dongle.
Hi, I love your content! Im planning to buy myself a new pair of headphones, my question is, would you consider a good choice getting the Razer Kraken V3 Pro instead of these as long as i dont really care about them not having Bluetooth? I mean, do you think they are relative to these 2 headsets in terms of sound quality, comfort etc. Or are the V3s just worth it you REALLY want RGB + haptics?
I currently have had the v3s for a few months now. They are good but my only two complaints are dropping off signal and there are no chat to game audio sliders on the headset, so it's one volume adjustment for all.
700 Gen 2 Max sucks. I tried 2 different headsets and got almost constant interference. Way too much clamp force and it’s heavy. Returned both and went with the Nova Pro when it was $100 off and have had 0 issues. Much better headset! Thanks for the tip on the sale Techne!
Hey Techne, awesome video!! I was debating between these two specifically, and chose Nova 7x, for a few different reasons. That said when you say the EQ doesn't save to headphones for Xbox, did you mean through Sonar or GG, or either? I ask because in the 1st review of Nova 7x you did a month or so ago, you stated the EQ did save under custom through GG but not sonar. Thanks. 🙂
Great point. I wasn’t sure if he meant the mic settings as I agree, I think they save once you tweak them in GG. I won’t use sonar as I have a ps5 only
Thank you for the comparison, good to know that there are pretty similar in sound quality. Dang the Turtle Beach looks amazing and even now I'm still conflicted, but because my only console is the Nintendo Switch and I don't play on PC anymore, so I'm leaning more towards the Nova 7 because of the USB-C dongle.
I bought Turtle beach a few months ago, after struggling with the sound (I hated it) it was too bass and I couldn’t understand nothing…. After a month maybe I found the right EQ and xbox setting, now I’m really enjoying them. But love Steelseries for the design
Goodmorning and happy Halloween to you! I am currently in the market and from all the reviews I have been watching (you're reviews) I am going to pick up the arctis 7 for my xbox today.... but I do have a question. What headset would you reccomend that work fully well on both Xbox series X and ps5 equally? I only have a Xbox now(my area sucks with ps5 stock) but I plan to have both and don't need 3 headsets I would love the idea of having just one set for both. In another vid you mentioned the nova pro 9X I believe but let me know. Thank you in advance and look forward to more videos from you
I just got a new headset a few days ago. I was actually debating between both of these. I went with the Turtle Beach simply because it's dongle wasn't a USB-C. Sure, USB-C is superior all the way, however, most PCs just simply have more USB-As available. I use this headset for work now, and my work laptop simply doesn't have any additional USB-Cs because of the dock that I use, and the dock doesn't have any extra/ On top of that, this Turtle Beach also pairs to your phone, and lets you change audio profiles from there. Which means, you don't have to install software on a different PC to get the most out of the headset when using it
When you turn off the volume limiter on the app and you turn the volume to higher limits do you hear like static white noise? That's how I can describe it. Like turn off all media and just listen. Obviously it won't be audible when Im playing RUclips but when I pause video it is
I have the original Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 (non Max) for Xbox and use them on my PC with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows and it works perfectly, have to say been very impressed with them so far had no real issues to complain about, the mobile app is a bit basic for them but gets the job done.
Hi, thanks for your reviews they helped me often. I recently bought this headphone after having the nova pro wireless and going back to arctis 9x but I wanted to try this one. I agree with the whole review but I have a question: my headphone if I put the high and medium monitoring, you hear an annoying background rustle. That disappears if I turn off the microphone. I noticed that the monitoring is very strong compared to the others and I would like to understand if it is a problem of mine.
bought them both from Amazon,, thurtlebeach is bulky as hell and the clamp force on my skull was unbarable! streelseries is miles ahead in terms of confort. i stuck with the latter and never been happier
According to RTINGs at least the nova 7x/p are far superior in basically every way. You can compare the two and their stats. Literally not a single catagory that the gen2'a win with. But if you go deeper there are some things it does better. Like treble etc But overall sound and abilities the 7x/p seems to be the way to go. Also battery life is twice as much and half the time to charge. And it has lower latency compared to the gen2 with Bluetooth in every scenario. And much lower latency without bluetooth. The gen2 still has 91ms latency with wireless that isn't Bluetooth. But the 7x/p only has 17ms latency with their wireless
I think the presets do save to the nova 7s. I have the pc/playstation version, because on the ps5 my sound was flat and the volume was quiet, I plugged it into my pc turned off the volume limiter and chose the smiley eq preset saved it, unplugged it and put it in the ps5 again and it is a night and day difference. So it definitely worked for me atleast. Lol
Techne love your videos. Only problem is we need more man! 👍. Can we get a comparison on the Steel Series Nova Pro Wireless vs New Astro A30’s ?? Keep up the 🔥 content brother
hey techne, how do you rate these against the Logitech G935? i have the G935 and love the sound and comfort, but would like to go a few notches up in the sound quality. like you, i have the sound blaster G6 external amp and it really kicks my G935 and makes the bass fart when you start to crank above 50% on the volume dial. i would really like a set of headphones/headset that is capable of taking the G6 punishment more and have amazing audio quality.
I am honestly suprised be the mic from the turtlebeach headset, u wouldnt notice its a wireless mic in my opinion. Thx for ur work and comparison Techne!
Ive been using the same pair of headphones for almost 4 years now, ive completely replaced some parts the hold it together, the top if ductaped so that i can feel some sort of comfort, the left ear falls off and i have to constantly tape it back on because the plastic peice snapped off. I cant adjust my mic volume and the charger port falls out if you dont hold it or lay it down. the sound leaves a ringing noise and i think finally after a very long 4 years im going to get the 700s. Thank you for helping me make this decision you have no idea how many times ive bee putting this off.
I LOVE the Stealth 700's but I HATE the annoying audio delay on the Xbox. Makes them unusable for things like shooters and movies. It's a great headset for PS4/5 and Switch though.
I just got the 700 gen 2 max for $166 and I don't get that delay. I had the artics pro wireless ($360 after taxes) which are badass but don't work on xbox with game chat unless used wired which sucks ass.
@@OG_HakunaMatata it has 91ms latency according to RTINGs. You might not notice it untill you compare to a better headset. The steel series only has 17ms latency In vluetooth it's the same issue. The gen2 has much more latency than the steel series
as someone that has both the arctiss nova is wayyy better in terms of quality but the gen 2 is unmatched in terms of cozyness ( I have had 2 gen 2's though and both broke rather quickly but one of the 2 is fixable)
same story here, my first pair of Gen 2 700s lasted about a year, then the right earcup broke off at the hinge. it was surprising, since I never did anything that should cause any damage and did what i can to take care of it, so I feel it’s just general wear and tear which seems very poor in terms of quality on the hinges. on my second set that i bought almost a year ago, which is what I’m also currently using, I’m having tons of software issues (some that my first pair also had, but this one has way more issues with software) such as no low battery indications, or the headset never turning back on or showing any lights and having to do a reset using my computer. It’s a great headset when it works, but man will it cause you grief when issues happen.
I wanted to badly to like the TB 700 Gen 2 Max. I have had a couple different pairs and none of them have worked properly. I think I will have to trade them in for the Nova 7X’s but I hate feeling like I’m might be downgrading, even if only slightly.
What problems are you running into? I was so close to purchasing the Tb 700 Gen 2 Max. I found a deal for the SS7x for 129.99 instead! I feel like the mic is better on the 700 Gen 2!
I had the TB Stealth 700 Gen 2 and it was great at first, but then I ran into a lot of issues with my Xbox Series X not “finding a headset” the chat volume dial always resetting to 0 every time you turn it on, the EQ resetting randomly and then they would turn off as soon as I turned them on. Got very annoying. They sounded pretty good with Dolby Atmos, but I bought the Steelseries Arctis Nova 7x and so far, I am liking them MUCH better. Just my $.02
i love your reviews. but specifically asked in your nova 7x review what youd choose between that and the 700 gen 2 max & was told the nova’s over them. so i exchanged & got novas & after using for a bit i regretted my decision then this video comes out lol
pls review Logitech G535, and compare it with G335. is it different in sound quality or only different in wired & Wireless connectivity? also make a video about Logitech G535 vs Razer Barracuda X i rly want to buy one, but i am still confused
According to RTINGS, the Steelseries has better sound but I've heard the Turtle Beaches have better mics. I've had Turtle Beches forever and I can say they are great quality but I do want an upgrade in sound. Such a hard choice between the two but I'm going to give the Steel Series a try. If it sucks, Ill return it and go back to the Turtle Beach.
@@djmervizzzy I actually decided last minute to get the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 MAX. I can sacrifice a little sound quality for a good mic. The sound is excellent either way and the mic works flawlessly. Very nice cushions on it too but feels a little tight the first few time you wear it. Just got to break it in. Honestly Im happy with my choice. I tried the Razer Kaira Pro before that I had to return because of mic issues.
@@SofaKingA they are still holding up great. Battery life is good and mic quality still good. I feel like Turtle Beach is a nice overall gaming headset.
I tried out the turtle beach gen 2 max and they sounded amazing and were super comfortable. But they kept having static popping and crackling noises so I returned and got the same headset, turns out same problems, also when you press the left muff in at all the audio completely cuts in and out. Really wish they worked cause I did love the quality but I returned both and ordered the steel series nova pros wired. Hopefully these do the job
The 700 gen 2 max is really amazing, but I'm getting all sorts of static interference while using it on Xbox. I'm not sure if it's a software issue or an Xbox issue. Runs rock solid on PC.
@@mickael486 I found the issue. The problem was my Asus DSL AC68U modem. I think it was dying and the wifi was causing the interference or it could have been electrical interference from it. I swapped to my ISP modem and it seems to be alright. Sometimes I get the odd issue but the majority of the problems are gone.
@@germanlopez745 I play any games with them. They sound great. They have a feature built into them so you can hear footsteps much clearer at the touch of a button.
@@SenorNavelHow is this feature activated? This is really extremely interesting, because I want to buy a headset just for that. Can you talk more about it, please?
Hey Techne , I would like your opinion on something I really want to get the Audeze penrose x, but the battery life and the range issues are keep me from pulling the trigger. I was thinking of buying the turtle beach 700 X max gen 2 as stop gap until, Audeze comes out with an upgraded version or a new penrose X just curious as to your thoughts thanks for any help!
Great video as always, Techne! Techne (and RUclips family), I have a dilemma. I have a plethora of gaming consoles, ranging from 1995 (PS1) to 2020 (PS5/XSX/PC). I have modifications to my earlier consoles (PS1, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64) where they output *natively* at 1080p using an HDMI mod (PS1Digital). To make a long story short, my audio for all of my consoles can be transferred as HDMI (using an audio extractor) or TOSLINK (original Xbox/PS2). The issue: I am looking for a wireless gaming headset with top of the line audio quality and features, with also a base/docking station that supports HDMI and TOSLINK input (something more full-featured than Astro A50). Under $500, preferably. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! 🤗
This isn't a headset I'm gonna mention but have you considered using the astro hdmi adapter? It allows you to use hdmi passthrough giving another port to use SPDIF (optical) for headsets in which case if you consider to take this route, you should look about for headsets supporting optical connection like the older steelseries arctis pro which supports optical connection.
Picked up the Turtle beaches because I'm a big fan of Flip Up to mute mics. I'm in love with these! I'm sure the Steele series is great too, I was going to go with them if I wasn't happy with the TB, but I prefer a little more bass so that's why I picked these first. Before I picked up the TB I bought Corsar Hs80s of Amazon and I loved everything about them except for the sound. I thought they sounded Hollow and just no depth. They actually sounded terrible to me. I tried eq settings and what not because I didn't want to have to do a return. In the end I couldn't get it sounding good so I returned them. I'm replacing Seinheiser GSP 300. They were still Seinheser when I bought them not EPOS. I love them, they sound GREAT for a 100 dollar headset, and I would have went with another pair of Seinheisers if they were still the old brand not EPOS. I read a lot of reviews and ppl say they aren't what they used to be. So anyway I bought the Turtle Beach 700 Max v2 and Really really like them. The bass is there and if it's to much you can pull some out. The highs and mids sound great to me. Clamping force is a bit tight, but not uncomfortable. I'm sure after a few weeks of wear they will break in a bit. Mic is good, and super long battery life. Will these win awards with Audiophiles? Probably not but they sound damn good gaming, watching youtube/movies. They have 50mm drivers and can handle the bass so good without muddying up the highs and mids.
Digging through reviews and videos on headset and headphones for my steam deck. Decision pain. As a headset guru, which would you recommend for the deck? Earbuds wont play nice to my ears so thats a no. Wired or wireless doesnt matter, the sound is the most important
Im surprised the Audeze Penrose X didnt make the cut. Based off your other videos i was looking at getting it. I only play on pc fps. Now im double thinking it. Would you be able to do a $500 gaming audiophile build thats better than all the gaming headsets, or should i just get the penrose?
such an amazing headset, and to this day they stay on my desk. But as much as I love them I would have to recommend them with caution, they are not perfect at the price point.
Is crazy cause my fav headset are the cheapest one, I've tried turtleB 700 gen 2, turn on the xbox all time when u turn it on, sended back... (Not gen 2 MAX). now my mains are hyper X cloud 50€ and turtle B recon 500 | 40€. Amazing sound... Tomorrow i send back the steelseries nova 1 cause looks cheap and for music isn't good. While for music and game hyperX and TB are amazing, so 2 in 1.
Hey Techne quick question what do you mean the software doesn't save to the headset for SS? I have the Nova 7x and I swear the settings I change on the engine carry over to Xbox.
I’m waiting for this answer to your question as well. I thought after plugging both dongle and headset it saves the settings and Carries to the console. I’m confuse now
You convinced me to buy the nova pro wireless when they were on sale! Just wanted to say to anyone on the fence about the ANC nub my ears are so big that they almost turn into on ear headphones so it's not an issue for me 😂😂😂
I picked up the nova pro wireless at the sale price. I love them but the internal mic nub bothers me after about 3 hours of gaming. I’m tempted to pick up the 7x
I just got it from the sale too. It slightly rubs for me but im not sure if it’s an issue as I haven’t tested it long enough and with the right adjustment it doesn’t rub. I’m so annoyed at steelseries for designing it this way. Apple, Sony, bose are able to implement ANC without a stupid nub sticking out. At least they should’ve maid the esr cups a bit bigger. Seems like they hardly tested it before bringing it to market. Do you know if the 7x will sound the same as the pros? Seems like the frequency and speaker drivers are the same.
Awesome reviews but you never made any points against the nova pros or penrose like you said in the beginning. After seeing this I'm wondering why anyone would buy the nova pro wireless these do the same thing without the dac. I'm currently testing the nova pros and audeze and just can't deal with the terrible connection issues with the audeze or else they are hands down the best sounding but also the biggest hassle. Hoe do these compare?
The mic of my old 1st gen Steelseries headset just stopped working yesterday, so I bought the Nova 7p today. I hope is at least as good as the old one I bought years ago, it was such a damn good headset.
Hi techne good choice picking the turtle beach gen 2 Max over the nova 7 but the Best is the astro a30 wireless there awesome for any kind of game my Nova pro wireless are steel sitting in my closet go back and try the a30 some more lust wish they had a few more equalizer settings but still the best sounding headphones on the market
I feel like the turtle app is a game changer. I feel like if your spending $200 it should be supported with an app either on your phone or the console. Shouldn’t be forced to a pc with Steelseries
I didn't know much about the 700 G2 max. I was able to grab them for only $79 :) I'm coming from 3 sets of astro A50s. These are good for the price! Did the update and working great. The Bluetooth connectivity has been good. Will see if it works with my Sony X90k. This is a good all around headset for the price
@@ttattx Yes I did. I actually got lucky. I was price matching from GameStop and I showed the worker at Fred M. After I bought it I noticed I priced match for the Gen 2 and not Gen 2 max. He just looked quickly and just priced matched it. I didn't need another pair of headsets but at that price that was a no brainer
Hey Techne can you do me a favor and please let me know if u can remove the earpads on the Stealth 600 gen 2 max's? Or rather, if theyre meant to be replaceable? All I could find googling was replacements for the non-max but comparison pics showed some minute differences which stopped me from trying to remove them on my pair :(.
I have these TB headphones. The sound is excellent, the mic is great. I loved these headphones, but the plastic where the headband attached to the ear cups just cracked and crumbled away leaving me with great audio features I just can't use.
Hello, thanks for giving us honest and detailed reviews! I would very appropriate if you can help me with my doubts. After i bought Arctis nova 7p, I didn't like how loose they are and sound is kinda leaking as my ear cannot fully go inside the hole. Also i could hear mic sidetone background white sound always, since i am using sidetone, which is important feature to me. Ps5 party members says they hear some background white noise before and after i talk, like the sensitivity of the mic is very high, and i cannot reduce sensitivity in Gg app. So i ended up returning them back. Now i am thinking of Nova pro wireless if they will not have constant background white noise which sounds like radio or something... Or maybe turtle 700 gen 2 max, if they will not have that sidetone constant white background radio noise, than i will go for them? Please help me, thanks in advance!
I wouldn't get the turtle beach unless you plan to buy one every 6 months, the plastic is cheap and easily breaks overtime, Bought them in January and overtime the plastic right above the headphone started to crack and eventually completely falling off and breaking no matter how careful you're or take care of it
Thanks for another energetic good review To be honest, I’m sticking with my Astro A20 Gen 2 headset until Audeze releases their new improved Penrose, if they ever release it. Believe me I’ve tried tons of headsets and headphones, including the Nova 7 and Stealth 700. Im someone who really understand good audio and I can honestly say that until a completely new driver technology is developed, it’s really not worth buying anymore headsets with dynamic and neodymium drivers, because there’s only so far they can push a particular technology and with these news headsets, it’s NOT night and day difference in sound when compared to their older versions In my opinion I think these companies are now more concentrating on features and functions than the sound and whilst everything’s important on a headset, sound is ultimately the most important part, because we use headsets for game audio All these headsets being released and Audeze Penrose still beats every single one by a huge amount, but unfortunately the battery life, comfort and connection are big issues with the Penrose, so hopefully they’ll soon release a new improved version
Bro the penrose are killing me! They sound soo good but the Bluetooth-console handshake is horrendous! I'm seriously considering sending them back but I got them for a good price. the hassle of connecting is terrible tho and I don't know if there worth keeping.
@@Fxlrnyc check and make sure they are updated. I got the penrose when they first came out and had all kinds of audio issues. After the updates they’ve released I haven’t had any issues. My only gripes are the range which terrible and the build quality. My set snapped at the ear cups. I just sent them off and they are replacing them. They do have great customer service. I am interested in the second iteration of these.
@@NoePulloutski yeah they are updated my issue is with bluetooth and the console connection both simultaneously. I did call customer service and your right they were great
@@Fxlrnyc As mentioned by @Mike Galimore make sure you update the firmware and you should be fine. My main complaint was the comfort. It was way tight fit and I had to constantly adjust the headset and take regular breaks taking it off. I hope Audeze addresses the main issues with the Penrose and releases a new version with much more improved comfort and connection
Hi there. I recently returned my audeze mobius after 3 warranty repairs of these headphones in one year (one time left earcup just died and other 2 were cracking noise made by the planar drivers) I've been looking for a pair of new headphones in the similar price mostly for gaming but with detachable mic and bt connection. I though about Audeze penrose X but i've read that they have the same problem with planar drivers as mobius do. After watching few youtube videos i am thinking about Epos H3 hybrid cause as far as people tell they have good sound quality and are good for gaming as well. I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions of which headphones i could choose from.
@@djmervizzzy They work great, sound amazing and the mic is very decent. It fits my head well. However there’s one little issue (It doesn’t happen to everyone): it seems that the Bluetooth receiver doesn’t have much range so a crackling noise happens every now and then. It seems to fix itself out the longer you use them, but you should expect some feedback noise. Maybe it’s a faulty receiver or the range. I’d recommend not to be too far away from your PC/console. Other than that the headset works good.
@@djmervizzzy Bro, since you’re already leaning towards the TBs, I say go for it. Don’t think about it too much because sometimes the differences between headsets will be noticed by the user, and not the reviewer. If you don’t like the TBs, you can always return them and try the SteelSeries. If you need more reasons to buy them, I use the Gen 2 Max for both my PlayStation 5 and my PC. Both work flawlessly and the receiver has a switch for each platform. I charge my headset maybe once a week, sometimes 2. Depends on the usage. Don’t think about it too much!
@@SpectorEuro4 yeah your right I intend to use it for Warzone apex but would also like to use it for music and take calls thru my phone/tablet hopefully the Bluetooth range isn’t bad lol! 149 for the tb and 129 for the SS7x hmmm 🤔
Hi techne I recently got the arctic 7+ from Amazon and I heard a bit of static on both sides I was very sad so I returned them and bought them on the steel series shop and hopefully they come good if not I would be very sad and wouldn’t know what headset to get sense I fell in love which these
Want to know what would make me impressed about a wireless headset? Being able to play rhythm games on it. I don't like wires, but i also like games like DJMAX and i have to switch headsets back and forth everytime i wanna play the game.
Gosh the 700 gen 2 max is my baby but my head can't take the clamping force (gives me headaches). Every little adjustment just doesn't seem to help, and even the cushion on the top of my head doesn't feel comfortable. Something like the Arctis 7P is perfect, with the head straps plus not having much clamping force. I'm actually trying the Arctis 7x today, I hope it fixes my discomfort issue.
Okay correct here, the EQ does save from PC to console on the SS headsets. Sorry for this mix-up
That's good to know. Right now I still have TB Stealth 700 gen 2, but it has been giving me issues for months now. It's time for something else. But I DO like a good bass. Sounds like that's where the EQ comes in.
Thanks for confirming Techne!
So all these work for the series x?
Hi, great content, as always.
But just a question about the steelseries, I have a Windows PC but I work mostly on Linux, on which I wont be able to install anything.
Does the Sonar Software Microphone settings save to the headset, so that I can configure it on Windows, but people at work will still be able to hear me right?
Just to make it clear, of course I will game a lot, mainly fps, with it, but I also need it for work
Anyways thanks a lot!!!
How do you know this?
Gotta say, using the stealth 700 gen 2 since release and love it. Nothing till now was able to compare, first the clamping force was bit higher, got a big head, but after a week or so,.. Its the most comfortable headset i ever head on my head! Sounds great, microphone is great! Bet the nova is amazing too.. Thanks for making this video, I'll go right in now.

Get a 100% warranty deal for them, you’re gonna need it. They are made of trash cheap plastic and will break very soon.
Thanks for the honest reviews!
ehhh man you got a dang good deal! and thank you so much for the support!!
Decided to go with the TB 700 Max. Love them. Thanks Techne. After hours Of research , I felt confident in these, and your review solidified my purchase.
Any update how r these? Wud u recommend?
Any issues with it so far?
I got them and they work wonderful after the update.
The honest reviews are why I keep coming back. Especially anything about the ones that you personally prefer on day to day basis.
They will eventually break within a year. They will break or Crack at the swivel part of the headset.
@@ablackcrane are you saying this from experiences or just because
I am saying this from experience.
Are you using them on pc?
I picked up the turtle beach 700 gen 2s for all the features and games I play and my one gripe was I have a big head but when you showed me in a different video to bend them outwards. Worked perfectly and now I love them!
I picked up the Nova Pro Wireless on sale from Amazon for $240ish. After an hour of going back and forth with my Penrose X, I put my Penrose back in their box. The Nova’s are awesome!
The novas are crazy I love them
Are they good for ps5 im thinking to buy them or audezze but i dont know which one
@@jasminahmetovic140 I have never used Audeze but I have loved my Arctis 9 and now my Nova Pros on my PS5, ps4, switch, phone, and computer. Keeping in mind that phone cannot take advantage of lossless connection
@@progenlock7785 Yeah i ahve the arctis pro wireless was wondeering if its worth the upgrade but it seems its a big upgrade thanks for helping me
@@jasminahmetovic140 definitely a big upgrade.
I have multiple favorite headsets for different things. Unfortunately none of them hit the mark on everything.
Yeah it's hard to know what a favourite headset is, i have 4 and at the time each was my favourite lol
He does really love headsets tho haha
I love many headsets 😂
Funny thing is I just picked up the Gen 2 Max's last night. Will be using them this evening. I do already own the Gen2's but really liked the cobalt blue/copper look. Great video, and fit right in with my decision making. Thanks much!!

@@jamesstevens968 Thanks for the comment. I actually did have the A30 Wireless for about a week before returning them for the Gen2 MAX. I 100% agree with you on the sound part. @@HTS21gen 2 is way better than gen 2 max. Returning my gen 2 max for arctis since old gen 2 is discontinued.
I’m totally stunned you picking turtle beaches over steel series. Steel series must have REALLY dropped the ball this year wow lol.
6:43 they did reinforce that piece because it kept breaking on previous head sets, but now the plastic right under that is what commonly breaks.
Which of the two do you prefer? Or is it just the 700 max you have?
@@LordVulkan This may seem like a very diplomatic answer, but I believe they both have their places. TB is more bass heavy and is better for things like footsteps in my opinion. Nova 7x is more of a general all around performer. Comfort wise again is about preference. TB have more clamp force, but they are way better than before. The TB did recently have a firmware update as well.
Thanks for the review, i do like the look of those Turtle Beach, i bought the Nova 3s not long ago, for the price, sound/mic quality are awesome.
So I think my next pair is going to be the Steelseries and hopefully they'll last longer.
same here.. both my gen 2 700's have broken in less than a year, the left hinge and I'm very careful. serious quality issues
They are trash

Love the videos bro. Whats your best recommendation for wireless heads atm, all in all? im wanting the Audeze but im wondering about options and the range issues of the Penrose
really depends on price, I love these two because they are at such a great price to features. But yes I love the Penrose still
Wow I’ve literally been debating between these two headsets.
Uff thank you! I was debating about these exact 2 as well and you gave me the last edge so thank you for your comment !

This guy is the rob dyrdek of headphone reviews, and i fucking love it
700 Gen 2 Max sucks.

Use vocal mode(4 beeps), it’s simply incredible in just the crystal clear quality
Thanks for the review. One correction, the SteelSeries GG EQ does in fact save to the Nova 7, Sonar does not.
I just double checked this, and it doesn't. Yes you have an option for a custom EQ in the engine. But that will not transfer to console.

Goodmorning and happy Halloween to you! I am currently in the market and from all the reviews I have been watching (you're reviews) I am going to pick up the arctis 7 for my xbox today.... but I do have a question. Greetings from Germany
I just got a new headset a few days ago. I was actually debating between both of these. I went with the Turtle Beach simply because it's dongle wasn't a USB-C. Sure, USB-C is superior all the way, however, most PCs just simply have more USB-As available. I use this headset for work now, and my work laptop simply doesn't have any additional USB-Cs because of the dock that I use, and the dock doesn't have any extra/
On top of that, this Turtle Beach also pairs to your phone, and lets you change audio profiles from there. Which means, you don't have to install software on a different PC to get the most out of the headset when using it
Love my 7x, but man that app looks great on the Turtle Beach. Wish Steel Series had something like that. Have a good one Techne.
When you turn off the volume limiter on the app and you turn the volume to higher limits do you hear like static white noise? That's how I can describe it. Like turn off all media and just listen. Obviously it won't be audible when Im playing RUclips but when I pause video it is
@J Cap yeah I hear it. Its a hiss
All I want is the best sounding headphones that are moderately comfortable.
Love my turtles....in black with silver...very classy looking
Hey! Which is the better option for PS5 gaming? most of the time i play CoD Warzone
The TBs are not a bad choice but they are just so damn bulky much prefer the smaller Novas IMO.
Like treble etc
But overall sound and abilities the 7x/p seems to be the way to go.
RTINGS review is on the Gen 2 not the Gen 2 MAX
Is there a big difference in sound quality between nova 7x and turtle 700 gen 2 max is it worth sacrificing comfort and the price difference
Are these the best? Like better than hyper x cloud 2 wireless
Lol
I’ve had a few Tb headsets and after about a year they tend to fall apart. Gonna give the ss pros a try. Great video Ty.

ehhhhhh many more to come my friend ;)
hey techne, how do you rate these against the Logitech G935? i have the G935 and love the sound and comfort, but would like to go a few notches up in the sound quality. like you, i have the sound blaster G6 external amp and it really kicks my G935 and makes the bass fart when you start to crank above 50% on the volume dial. i would really like a set of headphones/headset that is capable of taking the G6 punishment more and have amazing audio quality.
Really hoping you do a review on the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro soon!
The steel series only has 17ms latency
In vluetooth it's the same issue.
Just my $.02
Just had the same problem and was debating between the two for this exact reason glad to know I’ll be picking the 7x now

They have 50mm drivers and can handle the bass so good without muddying up the highs and mids.
i play car game what do you recommend for me (frome quebec sorry for the english) btw love your energy
What would you recommend for PS5 ? I play warzone a lot
@@TheTechne thank you sir. I love your videos!
Just in time. I could not decide which headset I should buy... until now, thank you Techne.
thank you for watching
Hey Techne quick question what do you mean the software doesn't save to the headset for SS? I have the Nova 7x and I swear the settings I change on the engine carry over to Xbox.
I’m waiting for this answer to your question as well. I thought after plugging both dongle and headset it saves the settings and Carries to the console. I’m confuse now
Couldn't agree more!
My wife's 7 X headset is decent and really comfortable but it just can't be the sound of my 700 G2 Max!
You convinced me to buy the nova pro wireless when they were on sale! Just wanted to say to anyone on the fence about the ANC nub my ears are so big that they almost turn into on ear headphones so it's not an issue for me 😂😂😂
Have always enjoyed the Stealth series headsets by Turtle Beach
Seems like the frequency and speaker drivers are the same.
yeah same, that nub gets annoying mid session. just wait wicked cushions will fix that ;) I'll show you soon
Techne looks like Stone Cold Steve Austin now give me a hell yeah
Awesome reviews but you never made any points against the nova pros or penrose like you said in the beginning. After seeing this I'm wondering why anyone would buy the nova pro wireless these do the same thing without the dac. I'm currently testing the nova pros and audeze and just can't deal with the terrible connection issues with the audeze or else they are hands down the best sounding but also the biggest hassle. Hoe do these compare?
It was a point of seeing/talking about what both of these are packing for a fair price compared to.
I got the astro a20 and they sound almost the same as a50. How do a30 compare to a20 and a50. Can you get dolby on ps5 without a base station?
I feel like the turtle app is a game changer. I feel like if your spending $200 it should be supported with an app either on your phone or the console. Shouldn’t be forced to a pc with Steelseries
What one is best for sports games buddy?
I have the old stealth 700 gen 2, it’s the best headset I’ve ever had. Was looking at getting the arctic 7p+ but my 700’s do everything I need
$79? really? add one hundred to that - all retail listing them as such... please explain
I wouldn't get the turtle beach unless you plan to buy one every 6 months, the plastic is cheap and easily breaks overtime, Bought them in January and overtime the plastic right above the headphone started to crack and eventually completely falling off and breaking no matter how careful you're or take care of it
Thanks for another energetic good review
To be honest, I’m sticking with my Astro A20 Gen 2 headset until Audeze releases their new improved Penrose, if they ever release it. Believe me I’ve tried tons of headsets and headphones, including the Nova 7 and Stealth 700. Im someone who really understand good audio and I can honestly say that until a completely new driver technology is developed, it’s really not worth buying anymore headsets with dynamic and neodymium drivers, because there’s only so far they can push a particular technology and with these news headsets, it’s NOT night and day difference in sound when compared to their older versions
In my opinion I think these companies are now more concentrating on features and functions than the sound and whilst everything’s important on a headset, sound is ultimately the most important part, because we use headsets for game audio
All these headsets being released and Audeze Penrose still beats every single one by a huge amount, but unfortunately the battery life, comfort and connection are big issues with the Penrose, so hopefully they’ll soon release a new improved version
I hope Audeze addresses the main issues with the Penrose and releases a new version with much more improved comfort and connection
man I hope Audeze comes out with a new version
Why do you prefer the. 7x over the 9x? Is the nova the same as the regular steel series?
Hi there. I recently returned my audeze mobius after 3 warranty repairs of these headphones in one year
(one time left earcup just died and other 2 were cracking noise made by the planar drivers)
I've been looking for a pair of new headphones in the similar price mostly for gaming but with detachable mic and bt connection.
So I got the 700 Gen 2 Max for like $67 brand new since my job gave me a $150 best buy gift card!!! Excited to try em on Overwatch 2 and Fornite.
how do you like em any issues?
@@djmervizzzy They work great, sound amazing and the mic is very decent. It fits my head well. However there’s one little issue (It doesn’t happen to everyone): it seems that the Bluetooth receiver doesn’t have much range so a crackling noise happens every now and then. It seems to fix itself out the longer you use them, but you should expect some feedback noise. Maybe it’s a faulty receiver or the range. I’d recommend not to be too far away from your PC/console. Other than that the headset works good.
@@SpectorEuro4 bro thank you 🙏🏽 I still haven’t decided but seems like people are having less issues with the Tb and loves em more than SS
Hi techne I recently got the arctic 7+ from Amazon and I heard a bit of static on both sides I was very sad so I returned them and bought them on the steel series shop and hopefully they come good if not I would be very sad and wouldn’t know what headset to get sense I fell in love which these
When are you going review the new Skullcandy plyr gaming headset ?
I think it’s a great change on your channel
