Great video bro, very informative. I had my car recoded at after a transmission swap at a local car tech. Everything worked fine until i decided to wash the car one day and seen my drivers side footwell full of water. I freaked out when I saw the water was coming down from under the steering wheel along some cables. When I looked at mu ecu box I realized it had some screws missing and I assumed the water came from there. I ended up spending the whole day drying the footwell. The guy even left the windshield wiper screw cap in the engine bay which clogged up one of the draining holes which created a pool of water around the battery and brake booster. The day after I was so scared to start the car up but I did and it started but ran kinda rough with the rpms dropping. I plan on getting it diagnosed and I want to take the whole box apart to see what the deal is.
I had the electric draw problem. The electric fans run through one of those relays. I can't remember which relay but it stay closed and kept my fan running with car off and drained my battery. russellp73 i have scanned all the codes but im not getting any codes that would cause this problem (i think). I got one fault on cooling fan (short to ground) and a fault on throttle valve but that moves as it should. I am starting to think that its the crank shaft sensor that is bad even tho there is no fault present
My cooling fan would not shut off when that relay was bad. Something in it controls the ecu and the coolonig fan. Or the ecu controls the fan and because the ecu was getting iraddic or low voltage, the fan would run. Will it start on spray start? You need, 1-spark, 2- good fuel. I stress good fuel because I've had a recent bad fuel problem and I've heard of diesel contamination from others. And 3- timing. If spray start starts it, then you have spark and no fuel. Check to see if you have spark and also see if the injectors are pulsing. Most auto parts stores rent noid lights kits.
You can also open the fuel pump relay and see if it moves when you crank the engine. Then you know it's getting signal to supply fuel. If it doesn't move, you can activate it by pressing the terminals and listening for the fuel pump to run, then you know the pump is actually running also.
where do i buy the fuses that isnt online i dont want to wait a week unless amazon prime sells them & ships them in 2 days. maybe advanced auto parts or autozone??
I'm having problems after I changed my timing belt on my 1997 3.7L A8 it cranks but won't start it has fuel and compression it's not getting any spark all transmission lights are lit up and my fan was coming on with the ignition do you think there are relays like this under it's ecu its in the same spot
Hard to say. Did you just do timing, as in not disturb anything else? Is the timing right and not disturbed while doing the job. Maybe a cam sensor was not plugged in? But it should still start. I've never worked on the 3.7. Not sure where all the components are. Are there any codes stored now? Crank sensor should be plugged into the rest of the harness at the firewall. If it's undone, the engine will not start.
@@russellp73 yes we did timing belt and water pump as the seal on the old water pump was leaking coolant. We used the proper audi tools in the back of the engine to hold timing and set it perfectly and it returns to the same spot after turning the engine over. Cam sensor and crank sensor resistance all check out ok all ignition coils test ok. My father and I are at a loss with what to do.
@@MarshallSambell which engine? Are you working on a 1-8 turbo? How have you confirmed no spark? The fastest way to see if you have spark is spray some starting fluid into the air filter and if it is a turbo remember it's going to take some time to get that starting fluid through the turbo ducting the intercooler and up to the engine before it will fire
www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/enginemechanical/tbreplace0.html Try reading this and make sure you didn't miss anything. I don't know what to tell you, except confirm timing marks. The tools you used locate the cams so they are in time. There are no timing marks on them. The crank should be held in time with a crank locking bolt. Other than that, check all plugs that may have been undone. Also, what do you mean all the trans lights are lit. PRNDL? GEAR Indicator lights?
Ash Arias well it needs power to the ecm which is the relay. It needs spark from the ecm so check the wiring at each ignition coil. I hear the wire insulation rots off. Google no start issues and read some articles. There's too much to put here. Also you need fuel. So spray it with starting fluid and crank. If it runs for a few seconds and shuts off, you know 2 things. 1 you have spark, 2 you don't have fuel. If you spray it and it won't start, you don't have spark. That's either a coil issue or the ecm doesn't have power which is the relay in this vid.
@@claudiugurita5005 Same here, would appreciate it you share! My car starts then dies one second later, no lights in dashboard but all other electronics working. Can't be a coincidence...
Was getting Code P0688 and this was the fix even though I had just replaced this relay last year and my ecu box is sealed tight. The code also lead me to check the wires going to coil packs and fuel injectors, you may have to cut the rubber at the point of the connection to find the wires underneath are all bare and touching each other which may be blowing fuses.
@@javiangray944 I would need more info about your problem, but yes I would replace that relay too. If you have any codes it would be helpful. You can use any code reader for basic troubleshooting codes. Without anymore info I would say rent a fuel pressure tester from Autozone and get a spark tester. Testing for fuel and spark is where you wanna start. Also check your engine management fuses inside the car.
I have this problem in my screen audi A4 2021 The screen didn’t respond to anything at all for about 15 days I go to the service center they take the car for 3 hours and they cant solve it then they take the car and said that it will take about 30 days to solve the problem my car is brand new I bought it for only 4 months why should i wait a month to solve this problem please i need a help
All I can see from the vid is a 219 on the back. I don't own the car any more. Vemo muliti purpose relay on fcp euro # 443951253AA on a quick Google search of "audi 219 relay". It's not the OE #, but it's a lead.
Not sure. It is a good possibility. Try starting spray first. If the ignition system is working, then the injectors should too. Unless you have a bad cam or crank sensor. If you have a scanner or tach, see if you get rpms when you crank.
Changed both what? Did you get it started? You'll have to use alot of spray to get through all the turbo piping. Have an assistant pulse spray while you're cranking. If the ignition system is working properly, it will start. If it starts, then you have a fuel issue.
If you can jump it with another battery, but it won't start on its own, then it's not the starter. The starter starts the car. The battery seems weak and with an additional battery and cables, it starts. Sounds like a battery unless you have a bad alternator. Is the battery light on when it's running? Do you have a voltmeter on the dash? What does it read? Running voltage should be at minimum 13.5 volts.
@@russellp73 I can't see anything on voltmeter I have an Audi a4 2010 ultra edition , My lights are flickering when I put the key in and the dashboard goes light and shuts down , the power just goes on and off on everything and it makes a clicking sound when trying to power the engine , I hope it's a batterie issue because that's a cheap thing to fix I will have to check the batterie tomorrow at a shop

What lead you to believe it was the left front sensor? Did you re scan after for more bad sensors? It could be a bad or dirty sensor, or a bad abs pump. Not sure without doing diagnostics. I have an abs light on right now on my 02 all road because I was swapping ecu's with power on. I'm pretty sure I just have to reset it.
Quick question, I have an 08 Audi A4 O realize it is a little different than your vehicle in the video. My "ECM" light turned on and is having starting issues and losing power, the relay "219" in your video says its a fan relay when i research 219 relay... My question is if I purchase an ECM relay would it be in the same location? I'm guessing thats the issue because upon researching on forums it seems to be that ECM relay.
I don't know if it will be in the same location. Never heard of an ecm light. Do you mean check engine light? What kind of starting issues? Describe them. Not starting? Running rough? Extended cranking time?
russellp73 im sorry i got thrown off cause the ECM relay i was talking about. its the "EPC" light. It's hesitant to start up, feels sluggish, loss of power, it wont exceed 20 mph.
I haven't had an epc light problem yet, however a friend of mine did, and it turned out that he needed a new throttle body position sensor. Google epc light causes. It could be other issues too but his bad throttle body gave him low power symptoms too.
I have an A4, 2007, 2.0T and my wiper cowl is broken. The car reacts the same. It starts sometimes and then when it get's wet, it wont.. Long cranks and it refuses to start..
Hello my name is Edwin I got a 03 Audi 1.8 turbo I got the same problem you used to have on your car I don't got most Park the fuel pump is not working do you think is that relay can you please help me thank you I appreciate
Ed Rivera. Spray it with spray start and see if it starts or tries to start. Then you know you at least have spark. If you have spark, then test for voltage at the fuel pump. There's an access panel in the trunk. If there's voltage there, it's the pump. If no voltage, then you are missing power to that system which could be the ecu, ecu relay, fuel pump relay, various fuses.

2007 Audi A4 Quattro - Same terrible design. Water in the compartment. First Round killed relay that always starter to engage based on the transmission being in Park... took a long time to find the issue. (thought it was the start at first, did not waste time and money on that). So replaced the first relay. Worked fine for 4 months then ... cranked over and no start. Traced it to No power to fuel pump. The fuel pump relay was operational but still no fuel. So disassembled that compartment as far as It can be taken apart. The ground wire Rotted from the water. So after another long process fixed the connection on the Fuel pump relay. Also inspected all other wires in that area. WHAT a TERRIBLE design. Hard to get to you many Break the covers as they do not take off the windshield wipers and remove that plastic cowling. If you Audi does start one day, it could be water in the ECM BOX. Dont start with the expensive starter.
SOLVED AUDI A4 QUATRO 2.0 I WAS ABOUT TO BUY A ECM, UNIT,, BUT TRIED THIS,,, REMOVED COVER OF ECM, LIFTED IT,, REMOVED RELAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 3,, CLEANED IT, , THEN CHECKED THE 5 FUSES THERE,, ONE WAS BURNT 15 AMPS, I PUT NEW ONE,, AND TRIED ENGINE,, CAR STARTED NICE,, LIGHT ECM OFF,, AND ALL POWER IN ENGINE AGAIN.

Elizabeth Bamm that fuse powers the secondary air injection pump. The pump could be jammed or shorted. They are known for it. Check the pump motor. It's a motor with a fan on it. It will sound like a vacuum cleaner if it runs right.
I'm having the same problem on my 03 a4 1.8t , watched this video.over and over again , only thing is relay 219 is engine coolant pump module , replaced it still no power to fuel pump relay, I have power at fuse 29 which is connected to coilpacks but fuse 28 and 34 no power unless I jump it
tarks dazz check all your fuses especially #7 for the abs. It feeds other fuses. Also spray some starting fluid in it and see if it will run for a second. If it does run then the ecu is doing what it's supposed to and the problem is in the fuel system. Checking for voltage at the fuel pump will confirm a bad fuel pump.

I forgot which conversation I was in. I see you were working on a 3.7. You met inbox me to have a more detailed conversation if needed
www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/enginemechanical/tbreplace0.html
Try reading this and make sure you didn't miss anything.
What other options have you looked at that could be source of the problem other than the relay
That's either a coil issue or the ecm doesn't have power which is the relay in this vid.
russellp73 is the ecm rely the same as the fuel pump relay?
I would like to know did your lights on your dash work , my A4 when I turn the key there is no light or door dinging at all
Yes, they worked
So you have no power at all? No dome light? Headlights?
So I have headlights, interior lights, and mileage and date and time, nothing in the center
@@omniwholesale4483 Hello! Did you managed to find the solution for this issue?
@@claudiugurita5005 Same here, would appreciate it you share! My car starts then dies one second later, no lights in dashboard but all other electronics working. Can't be a coincidence...
Was getting Code P0688 and this was the fix even though I had just replaced this relay last year and my ecu box is sealed tight. The code also lead me to check the wires going to coil packs and fuel injectors, you may have to cut the rubber at the point of the connection to find the wires underneath are all bare and touching each other which may be blowing fuses.
I replaced that relay still no start I noticed relay 369 is corroded cud that one cause no start? Or how cud I tell if ecu is fried
Where do you buy it?
Got it from Harry's u-pull-it in Hazleton PA. It's a junkyard
www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/SC/7480-08059699.html
This looks like the "219 audi relay"
Some sites call it a fan relay, which my car had symptoms of. But it would also not start. This fixed both issues
What screen? No clue what you are talking about. It should be under warranty.
Hi, for the medium and brigh lamps not working what is the relay? Thanks.
Idk. This is about wipers
and was on my fan but after my fan won't turn on.... Idk why...
Any part number for the relay?
All I can see from the vid is a 219 on the back. I don't own the car any more. Vemo muliti purpose relay on fcp euro # 443951253AA on a quick Google search of "audi 219 relay". It's not the OE #, but it's a lead.
@@russellp73 thank you 🙏🏽
Isn't that the fan relay? I have a 3.0 and mine cranks but wont start. Fuel at the rail but no spark, no injection.
Teegan Paulin no. It's the ecu relay
russellp73 I keep finding different information on this. While I was trying to remove it, the fans kicked on. Any way it controls both?
Teegan Paulin possibly. My fans would run when it was messed up. They worked right when I put a good relay in
russellp73 I installed the new relay, fired right up! Good advice!
Teegan Paulin awesome. Love it.
Where's the engine control relay located?
That's it. Unless you need something else, idk. I don't own the car any more.
sorry to bring up old thread but does any1 know where the ecu is located on an 04 a8l
Usually at bottom of windshield on driver side
Thank you for sharing one day maybe useful to know
Will this cause the injectors not to pulse?
Not sure. It is a good possibility. Try starting spray first. If the ignition system is working, then the injectors should too. Unless you have a bad cam or crank sensor. If you have a scanner or tach, see if you get rpms when you crank.
@@russellp73 i changed both, the rpms go up when it cranks. I'll try to get it started again. Thanks man
Changed both what? Did you get it started? You'll have to use alot of spray to get through all the turbo piping. Have an assistant pulse spray while you're cranking. If the ignition system is working properly, it will start. If it starts, then you have a fuel issue.
@@russellp73 relays, might be a fried ecm. Rpm works
I havr clicking sound my car won't start is it the starter because I can power up thr car with cables from batterie to batterie no problem idk now
If you can jump it with another battery, but it won't start on its own, then it's not the starter.
@@drlu3823 sound like battery or maybe a dirty terminal. Do they look clean or nasty? Are the terminals tight?

Did that issue display an EPC issue by any chance?
No. The ecu was losing power and couldn't diagnose itself
I had a friend with an epc one time and it wound up being his throttle body. There are a few causes for epc. I would suggest Google epc with your symptoms
russellp73 thanks for the reply. My starter relay is jacked up but imma have to wait a couple of days I had to order relay from the dealership. It won’t start and it has the EPC Brakes and check engine.🤞🏽
I have the same car like your. my ABS light on. i change on the left front. i change the sensor clean the connection. still sometime light still on sometimes off. what you think is the problem on it. any idea? please help.
It could be other issues too but his bad throttle body gave him low power symptoms too.
russellp73 Okay cool, thanks a lot
I have same model but sometimes start sometime no... do u thing that's the problem on my car too?
I have an A4, 2007, 2.0T and my wiper cowl is broken. The car reacts the same. It starts sometimes and then when it get's wet, it wont.. Long cranks and it refuses to start..
Hi, did you manage to solve the problem? I have a Passat B 5.5 1.8 T and I have the same problem, five days it turns, and then it won't
Can ecu relay cause no spark no fuel condition.
bruce kangwa yes. The ecu controls both of them, and the fuel pump
If no voltage, then you are missing power to that system which could be the ecu, ecu relay, fuel pump relay, various fuses.
russellp73. Hello this is Edwin the Audi don't got Spark I try everything my question is do you think about relaying maybe cuz the problem I don't got no spark and the fuel pump don't work thank you I appreciate any help
Sound like a sailor bro lol nice vid

Nice diagnoses
Bro, I changed that relay because the fan wasn't turn off but now the car won't to start, idk what happen :(.
Immediately after change the relay the car started, obviously, but now after 3 days don't start anymore

tarks dazz check all your fuses especially #7 for the abs. It feeds other fuses. Also spray some starting fluid in it and see if it will run for a second. If it does run then the ecu is doing what it's supposed to and the problem is in the fuel system. Checking for voltage at the fuel pump will confirm a bad fuel pump.
