Testing lenses for radiation : Yashica Auto Yashinon-DS-M 50mm F1.4 lens.
Despite being well known for being radioactive, the results we see from this lens is surprising. We also spend quite a lot of money to get the results you see in the video.
Dosimeter: Este Air Counter S gamma radiation detector.
    Mazur Instruments PRM-8000.
    SI Instruments Radiation Alert Inspector+.
After background radiation is normalized, the lens is placed 1cm below the detector's sensor. The lens is then reversed to see which side emits more radiation.

I have this lens and am trying to collect the whole DS-M line, but was starting to get a little concerned because of the typical things you hear around groups and stuff. Thank you so much for this video! Still collecting this series now😂

I agree. Not radioactive. I test all my lenses, which are mostly Asahi Super-Takumars. Some of them are clearly radioactive.

Is it safe to dismantle this lens for cleaning? Just acquired one with lots of fungus inside.

Fairly insignificant. I wonder what the result would be with a Konica Hexanon AR 50 mm f1.4. I bought it recently and then read it was radioactive. Thorium is supposed to produce nearly exclusively alpha radiation, which doesn't bother me at all, but some of the radium isotopes that it decays to produce beta radiation as well. I'm wondering if I should use some form of shielding when storing it at home (probably not but my wife is very uneasy about it).

I would like to get our hands on a Konica Hexanon 50mm F1.4 . Unfortunately, none have come in yet. I don't think shielding is necessary unless you plan to keep the lens by your side for weeks at a time.

@@FocalReduced I hope you get one soon. I've had a lot of fun relubricating its helicoid and readjusting infinity focus. Hint: use a low viscosity lube (same for the Hexanon 50/1.7). I've used medium and the focus ring turns smoothly but with way more resistance than I'd like.
