For those wanting to purchase the Yashica lens I used in this video, I'm selling it to make room for more Soviet lenses! ebay.us/vjbONa

its perfectly fair to compare bokeh 'shapes'. each company made their own design choices. so unless you think the square aperture is a mistake, they should be compared. and since it's a matter of personal preference anyway, why not? you are shooting yourself in the foot by presuming everyone will prefer one over the other instead of allowing people to judge for themselves, imo. thanks for the review - much appreciated!

@@SovietLensReviews yes, the question is about islands which Japan claims to be their territory, but yeah. Let's be the sofa warriors. I love Japan and use their camera Canon! Very good one!

didnt know square aperture exists now I want one looks like a photoshop filter. This makes the lenses very different so it's not about whether you get one over the other I think the yashica is cheaper too but its an interesting video and makes me feel good about my ds-m (which apparently was the entry level lens from yashica) I got it basically for free played 20euro for it with a camera and 2 other lenses in prime condition. I have a helios 44m the focus ring is very stiff (if I turn it to far the adapter comes off) I thought it was normal for a soviet lens. would it be worth it to disassemble and lube/clean it ? Its very tough to get quick focus with the lens since I need like two sec from infinity to 0.5 but I like the washing machine effect

That's a good price for the Yashica, it's definitely a fun lens to play with!

@@SovietLensReviews its the sharpest lens I got atm the sony kit lens cant compete and with 3.5 on apsc its like some tourist lens compared to the yashica would be an intresting video to compare modern kit lenses with vintage once. an adapter is 1cent at ali express and a vintage lens is like 20$ imo its a better setup then the modern kits wish I knew it all before buying a camera since im adapting my my sony af lenses are patiently waiting for some use. MF is where its at some out of focus pictures are money shots

    I have a Cannon EOS M and purchased a Helios 44M-4 2/58
Then I realized I needed an adapter; I bought one but it was the wrong one. Can you tell me what adapter I need. I am just experimenting. Thanks

It is if you go for the full ME-1! The regular Zenitar-M with circular aperture is the same lens though, and goes for ~$110USD for a cheaper option

The Yashica lens was a 1960'es design and went out of production in the early 1970'es when Yashica presented a new range of SLR lenses and changed to Contax-Yashica mount.

Interesting, it's pretty good for a 60's design!

@@tmwproductions3685 I've also heard a lot of good things about samyang lenses but haven't had a chance to get my hands on any yet. For now, still working on my collection of Soviet lenses, but if Samyang sent me any, I'd review them!
