Yashica ML series are decent lenses for their time. Plus having that CY mount, I hope Simmod will develop their Simmount EF convervsion kit for the Yashica.
Thank you for the honest and informative video. I purchased a Y 50mm F2 last year a Pentax 50mm F1.7 A, and several other inexpensive 50mm & 28mm lenses. I like both but on my Pentax camera the Pentax A lens is more convienent to use.
I don't own the 50MM F1.7 Yashica ML . I do have the 50MM DS-M F1.7 and the 1.4. I shot the 1.4 on my Pentax ist DS. I don't have the adapter with the inner flange so it shot wide open! I was really surprised how good the image really was. It was a little soft but not bad. They are really well built lenses.
One of my first and favorite lens, i have three 50mm Yashica now, but this ml version it's they better forma me, the most recent plastic bodies are a dissapoint
They are not too different, colors and contrast are similar, but the Yashica has more chromatic aberration and it is a bit less sharp. I haven't compared them directly in a video and I've sold the Yashica, so I can't give you samples, but I have a video comparing the FD, Konica Hexanon, Asahi Pentax and Pentacon, if that could be of any help
Dunno, honestly I don't care, but it shouldn't be, shouldn't have thorium in the coatings. Now that you mention it, I don't think japanese lenses in general used thorium, maybe the Zeiss Contax-Yashica did? I'll try look it up
@@MarcoAries Contax Zeiss never used radioactive glass. You'll find that in Pentax Super Takumars like the 35mm f2, and in one or two Minolta lenses in the MC range.
I don't know for sure, but I haven't heard of radioactive Yashicas. The ones I reviewed had been sitting in a bag for years and didn't got yellow, so they shouldn't have any thorium in them.

Well, there are a lot of C/Y lenses around, between DSB, ML and Zeiss, so maybe they will!
🙏 I do not understand the qualifier of "descent"! either they are very good, or excellent, there is no mediocre 50mm (=average) 🤔

Glad you enjoyed it! Pentax lenses are very nice and it's cool that they kept the same mount to this day!

Good to know, glad you enjoyed it even with the adapter issue!
Спасибо за обзор - полезная информация , по вашим обзорам сделал для себя вывод , что свой выбор остановлю на pentax m 50mm 1.7
Thank you! Yes, the Pentax is a better lens, I really like both using it and its warm colors ;)

Yeah, there are some plastic body lenses that are really good, like Canon FDs, but I too don't like the more recent ones
Great 👌 review.
Thank you!
Hey! Great video! Have you ever tried to compare the Yashica ML 50 f1.7 and the Canon FD 50 mm f1.8? Do they show a lot of difference? Thnx!

Hello ! Thank you for tour video. I was wondering if the Yashica 50mm 1.7 could fit on a Pentax k1000? thank you!
No, it can't, they have different mounts that can't be adapted.

what about radioactivity?

Thanks!
The #1 version ML with silver nose is being called radio-active, means with thorium-based lead glass elements.

I'm thinking of getting the DS-M 1.7. Do you know if it's radioactive? Thank you.

@@MarcoAries Non Thoriated lenses can still go yellow from what I've read. Thanks.
came for the lens, stayed for the conquering tribes..
Lambards 😉 It's a reenactment event held by a friend's association and a good testing ground for lenses!
хороший контент! на русском вообще нет видео по яшике
Thank you! Is that because Yashica lenses are rare in Russia?
