The fact that they got together just a couple of days before the audition is just amazing!
This song is almost perfect for Scott's R&B, bluesy style of singing.

nice reaction, you should play videos to the end . A lot of the time it shows them backstage making comments. Not always but sometimes.
Yes, I watched the video until the end but there were no backstage comments, just a video of someone else, so I cut that bit out 🙂 I have reacted to the backstage comments in the last video because someone had mentioned it before.
One thing I heard Kevin talking about fairly recently was that because he grew up in a very religious household (his family are seventh day adventists), he wasn't exposed to secular music growing up. So basically, if it wasn't Christian or classical then he didn't know about it. Hearing him talking about that, it really put in context the way he was asking questions in this episode about "was so-and-so 60's". I suspect he probably started to get exposed to the kind of pop music they make now when he went to college.
He's an incredible intelligent man, as a teen he worked hard enough to get into one of the most prestigious high schools (he was clearly ambitious about getting out of the rough high school he went to in Kentucky so that he could do more with his life). So in school he was focused hard on his studies and obviously his music too (especially his Cello and Sax, I think he also plays a little piano), just not the kind he mostly makes now, he's been beatboxing for sometime though, perhaps that was his little bit of rebellion 😆
So, in the VT they're sounding patient with him when he keeps asking about the different bands, and I would guess it's because he likely had told them he did't have a huge knowledge of the same top 40, pop/rock etc, music they do at this point. However, that's just a guess based on what I heard him talk about.
If you haven't yet checked out his solo stuff, I highly recommend it. Especially "Down" and "Sign Of The Times", but all of his cello playing will simultaneously melt your heart & blow your mind, he can really make his cello sing.

I am pretty sure that Avi is doing some overtone singing in this one but none of the judges even throughout the other songs where avi does it, doesn't even realize he's doing it or if they do, they don't comment on it. I would recommend checking out some videos of avi showing off his overtone singing which is kind of like throat singing, he can basically sing two notes at the same time!
FYI -- This is Pentatonix's 3rd performance, but due to the SingOff's complicated schedule it is NOT week 3. PTX performed their first song in episode 2, their 2nd AND 3rd in episode 4. In the first 4 episodes the groups were split into two and only half performed in each episode. So PTX were not in episodes 1 and 3. Starting with the next song, they will be in every episode but later in the season will start doing two songs per episode. That probably doesn't make sense, but I just didn't want you to miss a performance because the episode and performance numbers are different. There is a good Wikipedia page, "Sing-Off Season 3" with a breakdown of performances and results, but spoilers if you don't know the results.
