I just wanted to make them proud by serving my nations colors proudly. And my youngest son was a soldier in afghanastan. We played this for my moms funeral today, she loved the song as did my grandma and did song at her funeral, even had at my wedding despite it being in the fall and I took my mom to PTX in November and we heard this live, I will forever cherish that night. My mom died unexpectedly, completely shocked our entire family and friends.

This is great, even though i'm not religious, I find this song amazing to listen to and is quite relaxing. I'm glad that they've got actual talent to back this all up. Most religious songs are horrible and get popular by the simple fact that it's religious.
Absolutely right! This is truly breathtaking, melodically and lyrically, which is lacking for the run-of-the-mill Hillsong-ish type songs.
I've met Mark Lowry, the man that wrote this, and he said that this song started out as a list of questions he wants to ask Mary when he gets to Heaven and, along with Buddy Green, who wrote the music, it has turned into one of the most beloved Christmas songs of all time

I don't know any songs from those cultures that are religous themed but I assume they'd say the same sort of thing since pretty much all religions feel the same way about God.

It gets me thinking, not emotionnal! :D How that man went from one of many unremarkable messiahs of the era to inspire a roman emperor to create a worship whose prupose was to unite the many nations conquered by his empire and that it would last for 2000 years and beyond... That's pretty special to think that people baught that story so filled with holes to hang their beliefs even to this day.
I heard this for the first time in 2023 at Christmas and it brought me to tears. I listen to it every day.
