- It's time to decorate my pool area, and I have some great patio decorating ideas. Work in the yard with me as I plant my favorite heat tolerant flowers around the swimming pool and show you how to use pine needles for mulch. I'm going to tell you why I love the dipladenia bush for decorating around the pool and take you on a backyard tour.

Do you enjoying working in your yard and planting flowers? Are you like me and always barefoot? I love it!
My yard is not as big as yours...but, I do a planter on my deck & 2 pots in my yard...I grow tomatoes & have raspberry bushes & a saskatoon berry bush & rhubarb in my yard...I also grow lettuce & a few herbs. Just enough for myself. I'm an empty-nester & it is so peaceful to sit on my deck & look out into my yard after everything has been planted. ;) I have tulips that come up every year as well...Love those! ;)
Raspberry bushes!!!???? I absolutely love raspberries! I eat at least a handful every single day. And tulips are my favorite flower! Sounds like you have a lovely area.
WELCOME TO MY CURLS It’s not fancy...but, it is my little “retreat” area & my peaceful place. 👍
I love gardening 😁 but not the insects..... Bee's etc ...I grew 6 foot sunflowers....Love Sunflowers, snd hummingbirds......Renee is adorable.......❤️🙋🥀
Love grounding…..no shoes, ever!
Beautiful! Love seeing Pollux so happy! He makes my heart smile!
Mine too! He loves his new yard....and just runs runs runs. He really enjoys watching the squirrels and birds...and just laying around in the sunshine. It's so sweet!
@@WelcomeToMyCurls such a super sweet story about you adopting him. such a feel good story and lord knows we ALL need more of that!
My deck is my happy place. Pots of flowers, my dogs, and my table w/umbrella up. And an ice cold beer. I love watching my bird feeders and the bathers at the bird bath and listening to country music. Ahhhh.....paradise!🤗
I love when you talk about flowers and plants. You are one happy girl.
I really enjoy being outside and all of the things that grow in my yard. I can just puddle around all morning enjoying them :)
Watching Pollux and Maxxie zooming around the yard and checking out what their mom brought home is so cute. Happy dogs, happy family. Love to you all.
Thank you! You too!
Well I want to attract hummingbirds so I’m gonna get myself some Diplo Denia Rene your a great help thank you from Ohio 🥰🥰🥰
Looks like Pollux is trying to herd the invisible sheep. That's a border collie for you. Very nice place you have there.
LOL....he does love to run in circles around the yard!
Hello from rainy Wales in UK. I love everything American and it's great to see the contrast in lifestyle, home layout and outside living. The closest I get is a KFC party bucket from the local restaurant but we get chips rather than fries! I stumbled across your channel recently and am now hooked on Pollux and Max's daily frolics. Please keep the insight videos flowing. . . . . :-)
I just love seeing Pollux run like the wind. He's so lucky you picked him.
I LOVE it! It's amazing what a few flowers can do to an area. I also love hostas. They are so pretty when full and they grow anywhere. I have them around the front and sides of my house. They are the only things I can get to grow in all the shade I have. I like to pot Gerbera Daisies. I have really bad allergies so I can't get anything that has a strong smell. I have a full back yard that I can't wait to start planting. I am hoping by next year I can start. I bought my house 4 years ago and I had 4 huge black walnut trees in my back yard that I cut down (don't judge until you have to pick those stinkers off of the ground). Black walnut poisons the ground and not a lot can grow for a while. I had my ground tested last year and they said by next year I should be able to start planting back there. Do the flowers you potted have a strong smell? I have full sun in my back yard and I like them. Please show us in a few weeks what they look like. I don't plant until Memorial Day weekend. It's going to freeze tonight and talking snow flurries this weekend. Too early yet for us up here in Minnesota. Have a wonderful evening!
Oh wow Minnesota! Snow!!?? No thank you. 😂. The dipladenias don’t have a smell...or not one that I notice anyway. I don’t like smelly or scented things either...gives me a headache 🤨
Looks great and, seriously, so glad you and Pollux found each other... he is finally enjoying the good life, which he deserves!
I enjoyed this so much! I found you a few weeks ago by YT giving me your video about adopting Pollux and boy he is living the life. Your place is just gorgeous. Please show us when your flowers fill out. Thanks for sharing! 💜 from South Carolina.
I sure will!!! 🌹
Beautiful people beautiful animal companions beautiful home and yard. I love your open friendly energy.
Your yard is beautiful!!! I live in south Louisiana and will definitely try the dipladenias!! Pollux was the only one that hung in there with you. He is such a happy boy now!! 🐶
Pollux loves to be outside!
@@WelcomeToMyCurls That's neat that he keeps you company outside!
I will be getting me some "dippie flowers" , I have never heard of them before. I have humming birds that will love them. Great video. I love working in the yard too.
Lol Max had to initiate the flowers ... and good thing your husband likes to haul things! It looks really beautiful ... thanks for sharing!
I sure like you and your little family and how warm your life is!
Greetings Renee! You have so much energy girlfriend! Coming from NC, which is pine tree country, it's hard to imagine paying money for them!! Pollux is doing so well, isn't he? What a transformation! Blessings 🙏
Hi Jean! Pine needles are hard to come by around here so we buy them by the bale. Fairly inexpensive and so easy to use. Love the pine needles!
Gorgeous flowers; such a deep red. Love that they attract butterflies & hummingbirds. Please show them again when they are in full bloom. I live in an apartment so no real yard, but do have a purple morning glory plant outside. That's back breaking work, but the rewards are plentiful, Renee. Have a great day! ❤
Its Febuary 2021 with a snowstorm here in Pa. I found so much joy in this video this morning. Cant wait till spring and summer. Thanks Renae.
Your house is beautiful and everything is lovely inside and outside. Enjoy the wonderful decoration ,weather and life. 💞🌺🌹🌼🌿☘
Thank you so much!
You are a real hoot with your videos! Pollux is my favorite! However not sure about you drinking Coronas during the Corona virus. Pretty funny I think that they actually filed for bankruptcy. Nice that you are staying positive and having fun! Remember Pollux is the Star of the show! :)
Found your channel because of Pollux, stayed for your easy going go get em attitude!
Welcome! 😀
Pollux and Maxi are having fun! My husband loves to do outdoor gardening. Veges, flowers, blueberries, and grapes. I do the herbs.i love hosta!
Your yard is beautiful. A lot of yard work! Your dogs are the best helpers! Hangers look gorgeous. Great job Renee! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Terry!!!
Everything looks so beautiful. Grraycwork ! I have to agree with you about being happy outside sweaty dirty and fofilled with a hard day in yard work!!
Looks amazing! Hope we get a Pollux update video too :)
You can see Pollux in my video coming out Friday. He is always nearby :)
Absolutely beautiful!!! 🥰🥰🥰 I’m going to look into those flowers. Thank you 😊
You’re welcome 😊
The pool area looks lovely!!!! Great job done Renee!!! 👍👍👍👍👍May you have many days to enjoy the flowers!!!!🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Thanks for sharing about this plant! It is a perennial here in Texas so I need to get some! I love perennials, because I just trim them back in the fall and then they come back full and beautiful in the Spring and Summer! Easy maintenance! Enjoy! Pollux sure is loving his new fenced in area😊.
That's awesome! Mine die in the winter because it gets too cold here for them. But they are great flowers and extremely heat tolerant. Love that they bring so many hummingbirds to my backyard...and butterflies too!
Ignore the vine... Get. The. Bush. Noted. I love your videos. I came for Pollux and stayed for the whole family. Maxie! I love the curls. I have them too! I’ve never had rolled ice cream... YET! Keep doing what you’re doing. You bring joy!
I’m going to get a dipldena btw
We also plant Dipledenas every summer.this year we also added mandavillas, they look just like dipledenas. Love that they are heat /sun loving plants.love your back yard Renee. Beutiful.
Watching in 2021.. I need ideas for our pool area!! 🌺 This was very helpful!! Subscribed! Will be watching for more great ideas!! Just followed you on Instagram and saw you live in Paducah, that’s where our youngest son lives! 🥰
Dear Renee,
congratulations to 15.000 followers on youtube! I am one of them :-)
While hair salons were all closed because of Corona, and my skunk stripe was growing since February, I experienced a time when I was really going crazy about that. But then it seemed to me way to exhausting to worry about something like my greys. So I decided to stop worring and just let go and ditch the dye. My husband told me since years to do so anyway.
After my decision was done I felt like I needed to settle in into my new myself-to-be. So I looked around on youtube about "going grey" and I found you. I really love your way. Your videos are so interesting! I can find myself in the things you share about grey hair (and all the other things too :-)). Your thoughts about greys are making me strong and proud about my own greys. It is so enjoyable to watch your videos that I streamed ALL of them already. You are doing great and you are inspiring!
Now I am waiting eyery day for an update of yours - no pressure ;-).
Stay healthy (and your loved ones too!) and keep going!
Greetings from Germany, Barb
Hi Barb!!! Yay and welcome!!!! So glad to hear you are enjoying my videos and going grey with me!! And...new grey hair video coming out tomorrow 🤗🤗
Renee, I knew there was a reason I took to your videos so quickly - my grandpa was from Tomahawk, KY and I loved him so much! I love hearing his accent (okay, yours is a little less "Mountain Talk" than his was) but anyway, you are a kind soul to love your pups so much and I'm glad I found your channel!! Maybe someday I'll be brave enough to go gray too! My excuse is that I'm trying to get a new job in the tech sector and there are lots of young "bros" around so I need to look as young as I can. Until I get a good job, that is. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
LOL. You’ll know when the time is right so until then....you do you 💗
Your plantings and yard look so nice! I love my daylilies also! Here is a thought on those "broken bottom" pots, I would move them to the "rock" area where you have those hanging baskets (3), you can bury them a bit and plant in them. You could space them inbetween the hanging baskets....
Hi! I actually moved the broken pots to the front of the house....and sat them on each side of the garage door. I filled them with the same red dipladenias...and they look just fine. Since they are sitting on the concrete driveway, it's ok if they spill a little dirt from the bottom :)
@@WelcomeToMyCurls Just a thought when you do replace the pots and want another use for the broken ones....really enjoy your videos!
I noticed that retaining wall with the rocks and hanging baskets on an earlier video and thought it was the greatest! So labor saving! Looks beautiful! I am constantly weeding and mulching my raised beds and thought this might be a good solution for me.
Loved this, thanks so much. I prefer pine needles also. Flowers are beautiful. I have done a lot of planting this week.
Thanks!! Love the pine needles!
@@WelcomeToMyCurls bought two of those bushes today. Double the cost where I live 🐦
Like yourself. Day lillies are beautiful and your hostas really look healthy. Enjoy them this summer
Thanks so much!
Looks beautiful and very welcoming. .. going to try that plant if I can find it...I have an area that is to hot & sunny to grow anything I have tried ...I love hummingbirds.....Polluk ( so sorry if i spelled his name wrong ) is so happy living there...thanks for taking him in ♥♥♥
Just loved seeing you working out with so many love enjoy
I’m with you! My fav days are spring yard work then sitting out and relaxing. Sooo satisfying. Looks great and thanks for sharing,
It really is! Love being outside. Thanks for watching!
Love your choice of flowers. They remind me of wigelias.
Everything looks beautiful, great work!! I enjoy working in the yard too, it's my therapy!!😊
Me too!
Love the plants....will look for them here in Louisiana. I enjoyed the video..thanks. I have decided to let my gray grow out..and your videos have been an inspiration. ❤
Wonderful! You will be glad you made the decision to go grey!
your garden is huge and to have a pool you are so lucky it looks lovely
Thanks so much!! I love to be outside ❤️
👋heyyy from SouthCarolina👋 .... I'm getting a new pool NOW!!... thanks,, I'm gonna try these Beautiful Flowers in white!! Great Job👏👏👏👏👏
They look just like Mandevilla’s
Beautiful 🌺
They are closely related......my version just aren't a vine and can be purchased as a bush
Your yard space is beautiful!
Thanks! 🌹❤️🌹
I got some dipladenias today!! So happy!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Oh yay!!! What color did you get?
Red, like yours!
The flowers are beautiful.
Thanks Carol!
Apparently, they are primarily in white, pink and red but rarely can be found in yellow. This is a great idea for my back patio that is predominantly sunny. I will be planting those this year for sure. Your yard is just beautiful. You should be proud of your work out there. I enjoy your videos very much.
Thanks so much!! And yellow would be beautiful!!
Debbie here from Connecticut. So glad I came across your adopting Pollux . You won me over with that alone love your house it’s beautiful.I too am obsessed with my backyard and patio. I will try to find the Dipladenia for my patio, thanks for that great tip! Loved watching you beautify your place♥️
Very pretty pool area! Was waiting to see what type of beer ya'll drink LOL Not the Corona 😂😂
LOL different beer for different occasions 😊
What a wonderful video....love to decorate my house and garden and love to watch someone else doing it! Your place outside looks very, very attractive and these dipledenias are a delight to the eye! I have them every year in my front and back garden (we call them mandeville btw) also in red so I happened to know that aside from lots of sunshine they also grow beautifully in the (half) shade. Wish you a wonderful summer with flowers, pool, doggies etc.🌻
Absolutely beautiful yard!!!
OMG HUNNI, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! LOVE YOUR HAIR😍😍😍😍
💗 thank you
Gorgeous patio! Absolutely gorgeous! I would love to come and help plant!
This is not related to plant shopping but to get the hair out of your clothes and not in the washing machine put them in the dryer first and spin. Another idea you might try is putting in a dryer sheet in the dryer. Just wanted for a few minutes when your clothes are absolutely full of hair and see if that works. Good luck
Yard work makes me happy too. I get those flowers every summer for our back deck but they only sell the vining ones here. I wish they had the bush version.
I had to go back and search for this video - so I could send you a comment on something I just learned about planting flowers (or veggies) in pots. I watched this really friendly old guy named Leon, on a channel called Gardening with Leon. He runs Leon's Greenhouses in Kingston, Oklahoma. And he's a wealth of information. Anyhow - I always want to plant flowers around my pool, but never do because I am a slacker on watering them, and they die on me. Leon explains how to plant flowers in homemade "wicking pots". Now, the tubs he uses are not the prettiest, but after a run to Lowe's Home Improvement, I saw that they make attractive planters (large ones too), that are made of some kind of fiberglass or resin. Now, the pots can't be ceramic because you've got to be able to drill one hole on the side for drainage; and the pots or tubs themselves should not have any holes on the bottom. He teaches how to make these wicking planters. And guess what - you only water like every two weeks or so. Yeah. I'm liking that idea a whole lot. And since I remembered that you plant so many of those beautiful flowers around your pool, I thought you might check out some of Leon's videos. He even showed how he helped out a lady in town that tried putting flowers out front of her business, but couldn't keep them watered. He fixed her up, and her plants look beautiful. I always like to pass on something that I find useful that someone else might use too. Looking forward to Spring and Summer. YAY.
I am a new subscriber. I love ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️❤️ your channel. You are an amazing lady !!!! I am enjoying your videos from Argentina 🇦🇷 !!!!
Love this. Will look for this plant!! Thanks so much!
You’re so welcome!!! Best plants ever!
Pollux and Maxxer and love the back yard. I love the Dipladenia bushes. Great plaints. I am glad that Pollux loves flowers. I hope you all are having a great day. Give Pollux and Maxxer belly rubs from me.
Pollux is getting belly rubs right now! It's kind of cloudy out today...and chilly. He's spending a lazy day inside enjoying his new chew bone :)
I love these, too! I'm in the Pacific Northwest and they do well here. I've had the red and pink and usually get them at Home Depot ☀️
Nice! I bet they are pretty mixed together.
Hi, Great job. I have a suggestion, here in Canada we use mulch the same way you use pine needles. It comes in red and would really compliment the rest of your garden. Just an idea. ❤️🇨🇦❤️
Oh my - how I envy your nice weather! Just watched your video from Ottawa, Canada, and it is 34.7 F here now. It is May 5th and I just wish that it would warm up soon. Love all the work that you have put in your garden. It really is lovely.
Oh my gosh!!!! I am miserable in the cold. It’s warm enough here that our kids got in the pool Saturday ☀️
You have a beautiful house and yard! I have been looking for flowers that don't burn up, on my 3rd floor balcony, at my apartment. Those flowers will be perfect! I was wanting something that attracts butterflies and hummingbirds! I love all your videos! I am also almost 10 months into my gray hair journey!
These are perfect for you!!! 🌹❤️🌹
Just beautiful ❤️
Those flowers are so pretty! I have to find those in my area. They would go great in the front of my house where there is a lot of sun :)
Perfect!!
Your yard looks lovely! I also love working outside planting, pruning, etc...it is so peaceful. The only thing I don't do is mow; I don't like doing that so my husband gets that chore.
Ooooo I hate to mow! We hired a lawn service about 15 years ago....and it's some of the best money we spend every month. Sooooo worth it!
Your yard is absolutely beautiful! ;)
Thanks Julie 💗
Beautiful!!
Lovely flowers . Lovely pool. X
Thank you! Cheers!
So glad I found you. You really give us good info. Thsnks for giving Polex such a wonderful home
I’m outside girl too. Love playing in the dirt planting flowers n constantly picking weeds. Ur flowers r so pretty. I wonder if I can find those kind like urs in Florida. We definitely have the sun. I’ll have to check it out. U have a beautiful back yard. It’s definitely a good place to relax n enjoy a beer.
♥️😊👍
Hi Shelly! Surely you have them in Florida....I would think so. I have to get mine at a plant nursery. Places like Lowes and Home Depot don't have them. Good luck!
What gorgeous flowers! I don't think we have those in northern Illinois, at least I've never heard of them. So pretty! We are expecting frost Friday night, so it is still not safe to plant anything here. It's been a long winter!
Ooo yep you better wait about longer before planting!
i would like to see your new dog polux more on the show if possible
Hi Michael! I have many videos on my channel about Pollux. And he usually makes an appearance in every video...even't when he isn't the topic. He never leaves my side :). Check out my playlist called I LOVE MY DOGS
Coco Liners are made out of ripe coconut husks, shredded coconut husks. I noticed you posted this video in May, will you please post another short video (if you can) to show how your dipladenia bushes look like in Sept/Oct. Fishing for new plants for my back yard next year. Thank you for sharing.
Hummingbirds are attracted to the red color.
Loved the video!
Love your hair
In that area where your dogs used pee, you could have different desert plants, like 🌵 etc., With White Stones of different Stones!
I have a garden too, I live in Tuscany, and love a lot gardening!!!!!
👍👋🇮🇹
You look like you got your exercise for that day... What great fun
I did! But I always enjoy it :)
Coco liner is made from coconut husk.
Love your poll area and especially dipladenias! Would you like to try a cordless robotic pool cleaner? We would appreciate to work with you.
Were you affected by the cold over the weekend? I left all my dipladenias in the house (hadn't potted outside yet). We hit around 34 degrees.
Hi! Yes.....on Friday night, we had to cover the flowers with sheets. Some we were able to bring into the garage. But all is well now. Everything made it and is happy in the sunshine :)
Hey Renee, your backyard/pool area looks awesome! I totally understand your choice of flowers, they look beautiful! Just be careful with the dogs around them - dipladenias are part of the “dogbane family”; apparently all parts of the plant are super poisonous for doggos ☠️ But you probably know that, and since you put them in containers I’m sure everypawdy will be safe. 🥰
Oh my goodness!! I did NOT know that!! Never even thought about that because I’ve been planting them for years. My schnauzers didn’t acknowledge the flowers. I’ll keep a good eye on Pollux. Thank you so much for telling me! 😬
WELCOME TO MY CURLS Thank YOU for the authentic and entertaining content! Love from Germany! ❤️
Beautiful! ;)
🌹🌹🌹
Hi Renee- so enjoyed seeing you set up the yard. I love the smell of pine needles on forest walks - do the bales of needles still have that nice smell? They would keep down the weeds too. Your yard looks wonderful - time to put you feet up, hugs to sweet Maxi and Pollux.
Hi Kerry!! I live the pine needles...but they have lost their smell because they are dry. And you are right about the weeds. Nothing grows in them so I don’t have to do much picking 🤗
Do you trash your pine needles every year and start with fresh? I never heard of using them. You’ll have to take us on a tour at the height of the season when your clematis is in full bloom. Thank you for sharing. It looks so nice. It’s still in the 30s in the morning up here. That’s very unusual. By now our temps should be in the 50 and 60s.
Hi! The pine needles stay in the bed and we add more each spring
Same here it still gets cold down into the 30's at night but it was 60 today.
Thx Renee! Great video, makes me want to sort my plants out now!! Does randy not like being in the videos? Xx
Hi! Randy prefers to just be in the video backgrounds. If I try to get him to talk, he clams up! LOL
Hello, so glad I found you. We are trying to get estimates for a small inground pool but cant get anyone to call us back. Apparently, they're backed up and short staffed here in Arkansas. Can you tell me what size your pool is and who put it in? I got one phone quote for a 12 x 24 which is 30,000 to 36,000. Does that sound comparable to your area? Thank you for any info that you can share. 💕Kim
kentucky is the border for brick house once you go south of there you see less and less brick houses,. then you get to florida down here in hollywood fl, theres 1 house thats brick, for about ten miles...that i know of.
I am in central KY. On Friday we are slated to dip below freezing. Will you have to cover them?
Hi! We aren’t getting that cold here....but yes....I would cover them if below freezing 🌹
Loved this video! I'm a newbie in the yard so this gave me some ideas on how to work in it. lol Also love your 'fur babies'! Question. When you planted your Hostas, did you line your space with any type of landscaping fabric?
Hi! I just planted them and then put down pine needles. No underlying fabric or week blocker. And every year they come back bigger than the year before ❤️
Kentucky woman I miss being back home in Kentucky I n my brothers moved here to Rocky Mount Virginia back in 1988 we are adopted n I wish I was back home in Kentucky we are from Jefferson county Kentucky
Very Beautiful!
Thank you very much!
Good job
How about a wheelbarrow for the pine needles?
I thought the wheat grass would be good planted along the fence where the road is near the pool to give you privacy.
