Total disgrace how Phil basically lost both these cases. Amazing that courts would uphold the whims of borderline criminal casinos while actively punishing an intelligent player who broke NO law.
Someone was on the take .. . Wouldnt be the judge would it?
He lied. He based his request on false 'superstitious' reasoning. Casinos are run by crooks, you shouldn't go, doesn't mean this guys isn't a narcissistic, lying, thief.
He ran a scam and the Casino called foul. If things like this were ruled for the player casinos would not offer these types of bets. Thats the reason its a good set of rulings.

To anyone wondering - phil Ivey lost the case in both the US and the UK. He never got paid in the UK, and was asked to pay back the money to the borgata. However, the casino wired his $10mil he made to a Mexican account - so the money couldn’t be directly returned. The borgota would then go on to take future winnings of ivey’s - essentially meaning he would play poker without a prize.
This got a lot of backlash from the gambling community.
The borgota tried to seize ivey’s assets in Nevada as repayment, but that didn’t work out and Ivey ended up filing an appeal - which reached an unknown settlement. No one knows if he repaid his $10mil to the casino or not

As high-limit gaming manager at The Venetian in Las Vegas for 11 years, I dealt with Phil Ivey many times. Very cool guy. He would lose $1mil in less than an hour on a crap table. As far as this case; the second I heard about it I said basically everything the game protection guy in this video said. These two casinos either got greedy or had very weak table games managers because they never should have agreed to Phil's requests. Since they did; the only thing they could do after that was label him an "Advantage Player" and not let him play again. Phil needs a lawyer and a judge who understands gaming because he should be able to keep his winnings.

There's nothing ironic about it. Casinos offer you very long odds to make money. You're free to stay home if you like, but if you hit upon a miracle they WILL pay you. I agree that in MY book, ivey didn't cheat but played smart. But in CASINO rules, it's cheating. Before playing a casino, you indirectly agree that it's a gambling game and they have an edge on you. For example if you go to vegas, counting cards at blackjack is illegal and casinos can sue you and take you to jails for that. Even if you're smart, it's still cheating to THEM.
It's not illegal to count cards. It does give the player the advantage so when a casino sees it, they tell the player they won't take their bets any more. But the player can not be arrested for it and a casino can't sue a player for doing it. All they can do is refuse your business.
SonTerrific Trust me it is illegal in most casinos, they won't arrest you because they can't but they'll kick you out and won't pay you.
They can't arrest you because it isn't illegal. Just saying that your original comment was wrong in saying it's illegal and someone can be arrested for doing it. You just said they can't be arrested. Illegal means there's a crime commited, which counting cards is definitely not a crime.

If the casinos were stupid enough to let him dictate the rules in which he was playing then how the hell can they sue him?
So let me get this right ... If Phil Ivey had lost all of his money the casino's would have given Phil all his money back cos he was'nt smart enough to beat them
Hahaha no doubt!
The casinos gladly take your money
But when have to payout
They throw a big tantrum!
There should be a risk of doubling the money if the casino starts suing the winner so they don't retardedly start wasting everyone's time after someone wins fair and square.
I totally agree , and the fact that the whole world now knows that they are looking for Phil to pay back money they lost to these " marked " cards ... will this casino also name the people that they owe to because of these damaged cards ??
These 2 casino's that are suing Phil are basically saying to Phil and more importantly to all the big gamblers that come their doors .... " You are NOT a cheat if you lose all your money here but you ARE a cheat if you win " . Be careful where you go with you money !!!!
10:50 😂 that face he makes after that awkwardness starts creeping in as he starts talkin bout requesting an Asian dealer lol
There's a fine line between cheating and not cheating when you develop skills and techniques and call on special privileges that others cant
"the black kid who played poker all day long" what a nickname...
Scrutiny cyst extraction
lolz
I know right BWAHAHAHA
well they aren't wrong...
Lol can't be serious
Give the guy the money. Swallow your pride and learn from it. Phil did what he does best. Good luck Phil.
Casinos are little mafia shits, if mafia loose money, they worry and hunt.
Sadly in las vegas corpses with this talent are buried every day.
Well said, Mr. Jefferson
The casino agreed to all of Phil's terms and conditions in order to give him what he believed to be an edge and again the casino agreed to it. Withholding of Phil's winnings is damaging enough to the casino's reputation because other casual gamblers may avoid them. My advice to the casino would be to get some Aspercream with Lidocaine, apply it to their anal area and get over the butt hurt! They surely brought this upon themselves. As an aside, before this video, I never even heard of a gambler named Phil Ivey!
Ivey lost both the court cases........
Raincentral003 Unless there's more to the story the courts made a mistake.
He’s a legend nothing else
He is so honest. Pay the man.
To coin a line, "He beat [them]. Straight up. Pay him. Pay that man his money."
What? You're not hungry?
one of my favorite movies. gonna watch it right now lol
......last card coming!
I like oreos
Pahy det meihn hees mahney
Soooooo They agreed to his terms, he wired them money...THEY LOST!! and Then sued him!??! How is that right?
Uhmm, explain to me if you will sherlock, how it is possible to shoot yourself twice in the head. It's people like you, who give...wait a sec...@
@Random Person it is you who can't read between the lines... read again what he said and read the ending twice... he put in a little joke too... made it sound like he was talking :) numnuts
shut yo ass up
@@heartofjustice6041 LMFAO
That shit is proof how foul casinos are especially to their simple every other day gamblers.
It's crazy how this guy Ivey doesn't blink his eyes really 😂😂😂😂
I like this guy. So collected and matter of fact.
Q: “Has race been a factor at all?”
A: “No, not in poker. In poker, the only color they see is green.”
This guy deserves everything he has, incredible personality and no excuses. Brilliant mind.
I heard being a girl helps in poker as guys play differently against girls
Ivey is such a boss. He doesn’t pull any punches, he just dominates.
Louis Franco wait, for real?!
Louis Franco That has nothing to do with it 🤦🏻♂️
@@LouisGFranco How does that make being black a factor?
Phil Ivey = Tiger Woods of poker.
#Respect
I call him THE KILLA ... you ever see his eyes when he's playing ? He looks stone cold... like a murderer.. but I think he's the Best
Why? Because they both have brown skin?
Lol 🤣
@Will Rich I haven't had TV for a while and that is one of the shows I miss..I enjoyed watching him and I feel sorry for anybody that has to look in his eyes when he knows he's going to steamroll right over whatever hand they have sooner or later ... I would love to be sitting there in person watching him up close... I can only imagine what the vibe is that comes off at him when he knows he's going to beat you at your game... gives me chills haha but good chills like watching a spooky movie when you know what's going to happen next.
I really wish they would put him in a movie where he's the bad guy cuz he could play that very easily
How many women did Ivy have between hands?
You know he’s good he barely blinks lol 😂
Casinos are the worst losers of all!
When he brought up being black Phil had the absolute best answer. No bullshit no skirting the answer just said nope.
Jason Becker he said not in poker. That was his answer. In poker they only see green.
jetshockey5 Yeah what an idiot, you tell him
"Scam" being a derogatory term coming from casinos is fucking rich.
Wow, I dug into this a little more and the Borgata got ten million back from Ivey saying he owed them even more money, becuase the money he wired over they would have believed him to have loss in the even he was playing fairly. That's BS in my eyes.
How the hell is PHIL IVEY the man dont cheat he's just that damn good!!!!!!
Does this guy even blink? Lol! Legend
He always has his poker face..those talking to him are being read just in case they dare play him..
Lmao ! Classic response
He cracked twice and even laughed because he couldn't stop thinking about how the casinos fucked up.
He does seem kinda bug-eyed
Stoboranl
I 100% agree with Phil Ivey. All the rules they decided prior to that were fully agreed on by both parties. If Phil Ivey is doing anything wrong here then all rigged gambling in favor of the casino is equally wrong.
@Charlie oh cmon, I won't get into an argument over words definition, that's just silly. We all know those machines pays in favor of the casino. Sure all the info is available to the player however all the efforts are put into games making you believe you could win big amount. It's not because the game follow GLI rules that it ain't wrong or rigged. I programmed slot machines for over 15 years and trust me the efforts to circumvent rules and regulations are insane.
@Charlie just look at class2 casino games...That's slot machine disguised into so called bingo game, although it is perfectly legal, this is deception at it's purest level just to circumvent the law. Wake up to the real world where it's not just rainbow and unicorn. Since casinos are allowed to do this to people, they deserve to get their own deceiving medicine...
All games in the casino are known to have a house advantage and people willingly agree, The casino didnt know that Ivey was using these cards for cheating and reading them otherwise they would have never agreed.
@Charlie It was a form of cheating, in my opinion. They didnt figure it out until he left, and of course they are going to settle it in court. If Phil was reading the back of card without having requested a certain type of cards then I would say its just an advantage if it was the casino's card and Phil hadnt asked for them knowing what he was going to do, but he intended obviously to get them to have certain type of cards so he could have a signifcant advantage without the casino's knowledge, to me thats cheating.
@@Marcv1285 so the casino try and rig the slot machines, by the way, which slot machines are the best to play.
a magnificent tale of a genius david beating goliath. great television.
That is like playing a game and after winning it, the other sides tries to change the rules both agreed on after the game.
obviously it's not Phils fault. He beat the casino at their own game. They need to learn and deal with it. the casinos reaction makes players feel like not playing again.
+Bill Tsompanidis not playing again is what the casino wants, as a advantage player that is, on the contrary we need to become more advantageous players against the casino systems, that would really burn their bullshit and make them think deep into what they need to do to beat the players at their games...
+Jay Silva Why would any high stakes gamblers gamble at those casinos knowing they could be sued afterwards? By trying to label Phil a cheater they ruined their own reputation in the process.
+vivelajonny yo,, my man Phil Ivey.. Always got that poker face stare.. I did NOTHING wrong!! hahaha
+vivelajonny hey watch this and you realize how wrong you are, ruclips.net/video/mm8_aeWBtCc/видео.html
+Jamie Simmons It's cheating if you secretly give yourself an advantage. It's not cheating if he tells the casino he would like to play with a certain shuffling machine, and they agreed. If you agree to rules without thinking them through (and I'm sure they are experts on cheating/preventing being cheated), then obviously they thought they could win and are likely angry that Phil still won.
This guy looks like he never sleeps but at the same time he also looks like he doesn’t need sleep either
He looks focus as shit lmaooo
He don’t blink for shit.!
His real name is Phil "Cullen" Ivey.
He doesn't sleep....& He has that icy look in his eyes....
I wouldn’t be able to sleep if I knew I had to beat the casino and the court to get my money especially as I put up a million in stake even before I walked into the casino. It should never have gone to court in the first place They should pay him and then bar him. But not to pay don’t look good for the casino. So if someone lost millions of pounds then won it all back then what would they get paid or not. Casinos only like losers not winners. Better not to gamble. Also how many lives have the casino ruined over the years. Millions I bet.
"You Know him to believe?" 😆
Bruh, what a great description.
Casinos do this to ANY successful player. Also, what a horrible crappy job 60 minutes did...they did not even talk about how the casinos do this very often to successful players.
they have a black book of players that beat them card counting ,thats not cheating its using youre brain .and facial recognition software that they put on a database, no problem ruining people who arent succesful but thet defame anyone who wins to much . completely right you are
@saintquinn007 they never will because they don'thave to, they know you have an edge and they don't want anyone with even a 1% chance over the house to be on their property.
Eventually you're stuck at private games or in his case putting light on casinos because they basically so they can't say no or lose "huuuge" lol business.
Welcome to impartiality. I think almost ANYONE will side with Ivey - but 60 Minutes leave it to the viewer to decide if they agree or not. This isn't a bug, it's THE feature of news.
Its called 60 minutes for a reason... this is only 15 minutes
Nobody feels sorry for casinos.
As they shouldn't. I remember in college, my (mathematics) professor told me casinos have the odds so stacked up against the player that on average the player is made to lose negative something percent on each hand or something like that. These aren't honest people you're doing business with.
+Batman wtf r u talking about? of course every casino game is set up so the casino has the advantage
its a fucking BUSINESS they are trying to make money
they can afford to give out 10k on slit grandprizes or 1 million grandprizes because they make so much profit
how else could they afford to GIVE money to people who win if they didnt make more money than they gave out? dumbass
why? the dude earned the money by playing hundreds of thousands of hours of these games to become very skilled and get an edge against them
yeah🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸.
Update: Both casinos won their lawsuits against Ivy. Both clammed Phil was being dishonest.
Really? That’s fucked
Because casinos rig courtrooms like they do the games. Casinos had too much to lose if they lost this case.
