  • We started the application for my Vietnamese wife's green card in January 2023. It took 1 year for USCIS to process her I130 and we just got an update with the next big part of her green card application.
It's almost time for us to finally move to the USA.

When we moved my wife from Japan to USA the green card interview was very easy because we had many photos and stories of traveling together. They only asked basic questions about family and trips we went on together. The interviewer said it was obvious we knew each other, I guess the scammers they are trying to filter out make it very obvious they don't know each other. With a photo album and years of youtube uploads like this, I would expect your interview to be very fast and easy.

My wife is Japanese, but was already in the US attending grad school where we met. Her/our interview was easy as well. It's been nearly 20 years but what I remember was that they wanted to make sure our marriage wasn't a sham. That was easy enough to prove.

Good news indeed! As a bike tourer, I'm really looking forward your next postings. I can tell you come from a racing background when you talk about bike weight and efficient riding positions as I pedal around on my 30 lb steel frame bike and look for the most upright position to comfortably watch the scenery go by :) Enjoy your tour!!! I've always liked hearing your perspective on living and biking in Japan/Thailand/Vietnam so it will be really cool to flip the script a little bit and hear Thuong's perspective of living and biking in Michigan.

No traffic lights in Dalat, enjoy!
I've done the drive myself from Danang to Dalat on motorbike. I'd say avoid the costal highway (insane truck drivers) and go through the middle of the country and PLEIKO.
I lived there throughout the early pandemic in Dalat, Langbiang. Much nicer weather this time of year, very cool weather.
    I miss Kem Bo!

@@TwoWheelCruise I was going to say, Thuong will change her tune fast come November and you'll be looking for a more southerly summer home or at least getaway - perhaps in the desert Southwest where I live or our playground, San Diego! As a viewer, I have mixed feelings about your move as your Japan, Thailand and Vietnam adventures and perspectives have been so enjoyable vicariously! But, as someone else noted, it will also be especially interesting Thuong's observations and thoughts when you guys complete your move. Unless you've done a video on it already, it would be great to also hear her "pre" thoughts about coming to the US.

My sister has been "documentarily accepted" for literally 2.5 years. We get an email update (same form letter) every 6 months telling us everything's been completed and they are just waiting for the interview to get scheduled. But also a warning not to make major decisions pertaining to the migration. The hold up is usually at the local embassy - Has nothing to do with petition approval - it's more of local government bureaucracy/red tape. Since Covid, local embassies have been backed up processing visas and interviews, so NVC is unable to schedule interviews quickly. I hope you've got better luck in Vietnam to get that interview scheduled.

I know that you two are still relatively young and are still at the age where you have to make as much income as you can and invests in a house so that when you reach your 50s, you can live a financially independent life style. I'm lucky, because I have already retired and living the FIRE life style. I chose to live my FIRE life style in my own paid off house in California because California have great weather and I can actually afford to live here in my retirement. Speaking of VN traffic lights. In Saigon the lights are the same. What ends up happening is three seconds after the light turns red traffic is still running the light. Meanwhile a few seconds before the other direction light turns green people also start running the light. So for a few seconds you have traffic chaos while everybody is crisscrossing the intersection.
