    I have a phobia or some sort of psychotic fear of running into a car door on the side of the street when someone opens when I'm flying by. I actually feel safer riding in the middle of the road if the speed limit is only 25 mph cause I normally ride nearly 20 mph.

    Yes its the same here in the Philippines, with the older 2 stroke motorcycles , fortunately the government banned the new sales of them in 2003. But there are still some older ones still around. Im an American, retired with my filipina wife here in the Philippines and have been a cyclist for 40 years, and I am so jealous of your nice roads there in Da Nang compared to what I ride on here. The burning of trash is common here also. Im really enjoying your bicycling content . I dont shop with my wife either, they see me and the price goes up. They call it the skin tax here. 😄

    I think the bad air quality would break me if the chaotic traffic didn’t. I’m guessing Vietnam doesn’t enforce “smog checks” like they do in the U.S. The outskirts of Vietnam seem more inviting for cyclists. On another note, I didn’t see any public transportation. Are there any? Also, were those bar ends on your bike? I miss those on modern mountain bikes.

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  5 месяцев назад +1

      The air quality is good in Da Nang most of the year outside of the busy roads. There is no public transportation here, but they are starting to work on a subway network in Hanoi and Saigon

    Some very useful and honest observations and advice for anyone planning to go to Vietnam, which like all countries, has its good points and problem areas. Thuong is absolutely right, the vital thing is to keep your wits about at all times and protect yourself from any potential mishap.
    As for living in the Us with the prevalence guns, you just have to be cautious and live normally without letting it dictate your future plans as a couple and individually.

    Loved this sojourn around the area. Thoung's English has improved dramatically the last 12 months. Cruise, you should use the proper comparative forms for her benefit. Use the words slower, slowest not more slow or more slower. Faster and fastest, good, better, best etc. Not a criticism. This will help her acclimatize when she gets to North America.

    Very nice ride and description of various topics of interest. In the end, it appears Vietnam is pretty much like most other places in the world-though like any developing nation it’s trying to play catch up in certain areas, such as clean running water, food sanitation, air quality, and of course traffic safety laws. The country seems more advanced overall than one might think since most of what we in the West generally know comes from war-era news footage . Thanks for sharing a lot of very relevant information. You did a great job riding, filming, and narrating! Stay safe!

      You can say that the USA is a federal presidential constitutional republic, but to deny that it is also a liberal democracy is some weird ass denial of its deep democratic systems. You can say it is not just a democracy, that there is a lot more to it, but it is no doubt a democracy. If the UK and Japan can be parliamentary constitutional monarchies that are also democracies, then the USA more than qualifies too.

    • @WhackaWhacka
      @WhackaWhacka 5 месяцев назад +6

      The real galaxy brain framing of "it's not a democracy" is that it's an oligarchy. "It's not a democracy, it's a republic" is something people heard once and repeat over and over again because they think it makes them sound smart, like tomatoes are fruits and not vegetables, or whatever. A republic is a representative democracy. No country is a true democracy. Switzerland is known for having a fair amount of that but not totally. Referenda, ballot measures, propositions, etc. are direct democracy but that's a small slice of the pie (and even then, many of those are purposely confusing and anti-democratic in the larger sense of the word). I wouldn't usually comment on something like this here, or anywhere, but this is just silly.
