Hey Luke, what a man to speak about your self harm. My greatest respect to you. Your journey to deal with mental health is far greater than the one you and Adam are currently on. To be where you are now is amazing and I am sure you speaking about it will help other people realise, things will get better. Wonderful episode guys.

Hi guys. My husband and I watch every episode. We love you guys and admire how far you have come!
First off: PLEASE WEAR SUNSCREEN, NO MATTER WHAT. Skin cancer is no joke. Take it from a 63 year old red head who never listened to my parents and NEVER wore sun screen...now I do...better late than never, I guess.
Second: who is the older brother?
Third: John, PLEASE don't ever feel ashamed of your past situations! I'm so proud of you for being honest and telling all of social media that you self harmed in order to "cope". I can only imagine what you went thru! Kudos to you for even telling us. Be proud of yourself for overcoming it!

Your problem with creaks & pots making a noise. When I did the Arc in 2013 the skipper had been across 4 or 5 times & his method was to open a noisy cupboard & pack a tea towel or small towel in between the pots & pans. It seemed to work quite well but sometimes difficult to find the tea towel for the drying up! I personally don't have a problem & can sleep anywhere. Good Q & A video, very interesting. Happy sailing!!

Repeating noises drove me nuts for years until I found an app called white noise, it has various sounds, my favorite one is called Brown noise, a low frequency one. I play it from an old phone through cheap sponged head ear phones, I imagine, rain, wind, beach surf sound, it has worked a treat, it de tunes your noggin from outside. Sometimes I play it through a smart speaker when I’m reading, give it a go.
Grab bag, spare clothes, med kit, fishing stuff, extra food, hole in the raft, sun cream, hats. If you hit a container you go down in under a minute. Crazy not to have one

A great episode gentlemen and I admire your honesty. My dear Son has the marks that you carry and to my enduring shame I did not understand or know what to do at the time. I realised that I grew up in an entirely era and circumstances.
For me there are four things that make your journey so wonderful (I lived for two + years in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands) and that is you two and your 'real people' personalities, dear Atlas (Gd protect her!) and the biggest character (in size anyway!) the sea!! Some of the photography when you have been on long sails has been just magical. This is an experience we cannot get otherwise and live through you. Thank you both, so much and safe sailing.

I feel that you can have small scale charts for everywhere in the world. In small scale that is only four or five charts total. The position should ideally be marked each day offshore, more often inshore. This is a good backup in case of electrical failure and or injury or illness, and fun to do; it is also a legal requirement under the international law of the sea, which may only come up in the event of an accident inquiry. It is best practice.

Relying totally on GPS is fine, let me put a scenario for you. Sailing along the doo doo hits the fan you hit a whale which sinks the boat faster than you expect, get your grab bag, do you have a life raft on board, and how fast can you deploy it, do you have an EPIRB? being no clue where you are how can you get help.
When I learnt to navigate there was no such thing as a GPS or even computers, we had charts Sailing Directions, Sight Reduction Tables, Tide Tables, a Sextant, a Compass, Dividers, and a rubber! Being a diver of over 40 years learning the skills has taken me to many wrecks well offshore, so not wasted!
Learn the basics of finding where you are when out of sight of land; you have plenty of time on long passages just sailing East or whatever and hope you will bump into some land is not good enough.

You are right Ray we do need a grant bag and an EPIRB. Thank you for the message was interesting and really made us think 🧐. Didn't know you were a yachtmaster offshore 👍

Sad that lithium has fire issues, the Rocna is a giant leep farward and the no roll bar Vulcan or new Rocna are better in my humble opinion❤❤

Which of the various lithium technologies is a fire risk? Is that the same as they're using? ( Unlike car types?)

We love our new Rocna but I bet the more modern design is better

No grab bag is nuts. Shipwreck is bad. Shipwreck with no passport is a lot worse
