- In this video demonstration I take you through a quick and easy front speaker "retrofit" replacement using aftermarket speakers on a 2011 Chevy Malibu.
This is a common issue on many GM Chevy vehicles I believe 2007 to 2013 may be other years as well. In some cases moister related in most cases I found no signs of moisture still failed. I have used these speakers in a couple other applications with good results, these are smaller than originals however I found the presses of installation much faster. And the sound quality still far passes the originals
It’s a choice you have once in there. Hope you enjoy
in the video i referred to markings on the original housing in reference to the polarity. im not certain if all are marked and or landed the same. follow link bellow to a color code list to make certain in addition any questions will be best answered there on the forum

Sorry guys my camcorder let me down, using my Phone to get a quick one out to you. Will post another quickie later
This whole car is a failure. From the bumpers needing to be removed to access the headlight to the radio going in and out and to the speakers not working
One of the, if not, the best how to’s I have watched on RUclips. Thank you
Thank you 😊
Good video! For me, one of the most difficult parts of doing something like this is figuring out how to get the door panel off without breaking something.
Thank you, i will second that. i had practice doing the passenger side first lol
well done, will try this next week
thank you Good luck!
THANKS. These disassembly and troubleshooting steps worked perfectly. I even found the same model of speakers.
Thanks for the video. My Son and I completed the replacement of His speakers thanks to your help.
Thx, i was strughling with this. Video is very helpful.
Awesome! Happy to hear the video helped you out.
I just replaced them on my 2008 Saturn Aura the OE speakers were made in mexico, they looked cheaply made I replaced them with Sony speakers I got from Crutchfield
I know this video is old but god damn this is quality.
The speakers I ordered came with the brackets and wiring adapter... Gonna make it much easier
Thanks most informative video on this job I've seen yet. Straight forward and detailed!
Great video, helped me know ahead of time what fastener was where.
I installed a set of Sony 6.5" speakers which were exactly the size of the outer ring of plastic from the old speaker keeping it from sitting down inside the brim. The Sony speaker has a tall center cone assembly. I used a set of side cutters for all of the cutting I needed to do to modify the old speaker into a mount. To make pretty clean work of removing the brim I notched about every inch with the side cutters making tabs then snapped them off cleanly. This allowed the speaker to sit flush. I tried installing without removing the brim first and it pressed the speaker center cone into the door mesh and over time would have probably caused it to break through. Everything else went according to plan and fixed my intermittent door speaker problems. Hopefully these details will help someone else.
Thanks for the great video! Smh my front speakers are out in a 2009. Looks like they didn't do any better 2 years later.
Thanks so much for the help. Very detailed easy to understand thanks again
Awesome! I'm doing my front door speakers next weekend. This helps big time🤙
The speakers on mine still work, I think the wiring is screwed up. Every once in a while, when you hit a big bump, they will turn back on, then shut off when you hit another one.
Bruh same! 🤦🏽♂️
My left front works in the summer, but not the winter
Just did this today on a 2012. Just so folks know, 6.5" speakers work just fine too.
Thank you for sharing
Can you do a video on replacing the factory 6x9 speakers?
Mine were completely separated from the surrounds. No sound and open load. What a shame...
Thank you that was very helpful!
Great video man!Thanks a bunch
2012 Malibu, front speakers don't work but at time the left one starts playing. Is it the speakers or within the radio?
I second this question
I third this question (although mine is a 2009 and it is the right side that kicks on occasionally)
DUDE THANKS!!! this was a good video!
Thanks for the video now gives me an idea to change my speakers and could u do a video on removing the factory back 6x9 speakers
I replaced mine with cheap ones and the drivers one went out already, I cut the factory connector off so no going back to OEM without splicing and repurchasing those connector ends for me
Just like the pro that you are .. Good job Will !
thank you Shawn its appreciated
Nice mod . It seems all manufactures are putting in crappy speakers unless you order the optional sound system but a dead speaker that soon, fail. Haha . Cheers buddy....
Thank you Steve, it's more common than I would have imagined. Never guess where that OEM speaker was made lol
Wait so? The stock speaker is 6.75" on a lot of these vehicles, is this one only 6-1/4" cuz that 5.25" speaker looked to fix that adapter easily.
why not get a 5 bucks metra speaker direct fit plugs right in to factory plug
I put some kicker speakers on all four doors, it worked perfectly, i just finished my install on some subs and now the front one won’t play any sound but the back ones still do. Any ideas as to why this is happening???
I got that same problem.
C.T. I figured out the problem to mine, it might be the same for you. I went back and checked the line output converter and not all the connection were in there good. So what i didn’t was crimp all my connections again and it worked. Hopefully this helps man, best of luck!
Thanks Will your the best.
Thank you for the compliment
Do you have a video replacing the 6x9's?
grasias por ese video cada dia aprene uno mas
your welcome
Life saver thanx

Awesome! Thanks man!
Are these the speakers that you hear the Bluetooth through?
Are the aftermarket speakers still working since being installed? I have the problem in my 2008 cobalt but don't want to invest in something that will just go bad again.
My daughter has a 2006 Cobalt. I changed out the blown front speakers and left the factory head unit to see if the radio would work. Radio works fine. Changing out the radio anyways for Bluetooth audio.
My speaker likes to randomly turn on and off.
Mine does the same thing here, right is out and left goes in and out
piliot holes?

thanks..
another example of shoddy us specs and quality

Those are T-25 not T-20
Malibu and front speakers shit...mine too not working!%$@^&* 😅👉👈
Ahhhh yes. The crappy GM door speakers. Great mod!
lol Thank you
I think these door speakers fail because water gets in.
My speakers won't work most of the time, but then all of the sudden, One or the other comes on, and it sounds great. next time, they don't work again. Is this perhaps just a connector problem? or do you think the speaker is bad? It sounds great when it does come on.
1ProudMa I have the same problem with my 2008 Chevy Silverado my driver door speaker comes in and out all the time like you said it sounds great when it's on next time I get in the truck it's out again I don't know why but I will figure it out soon
Most likely a dying amp or loose connection, only two possibilities besides the speaker coil burning out
my 2008 chevy impala has the same issue.
Duice Sosaa right I’m tryna figure that out now
Same thing with my 2007 impala. Speakers were shot
Nice job again, Will.
Wish you made vid longer of you actually doing some of this stuff cause I had shit that was way harder to disconnect or wasnt actually meant to disconnect but you skipped shit
