Croke Park, February 24th 2007 (Attendance 83,000)
If your not from ireland, you won't understand but this is one of the most beautiful moments in Irish sporting history.
As an irishman now living in Wales, this was one of the proudest days of my life. I was hoarse the following day.
Im Irish just like u, I would consider myself completely unemotional, but I have absolutely no shame in saying that I cried my eyes out with pride that day, its quite simply a day ill never forget!!!
I'm Welsh, born and bred, what a game, what memories. I don't know how you feel, just wish the IRFU, could use Croke Park, full time, instead of Landsdowne Road. The ground looks and feels amazing.
Ireland were never ever going to lose that game, unless your Irish you'll never understand how much anger and controversy was involved. If Ireland had lost, the embarasment would have been unforgettable and rugby's reputation in Ireland would have been in tatters.100 different England teams could have came including the 2003 world cup squad and none of them would have had a chance of beating Ireland on that day.
Well put.
amen to dat
Jed Car The last time the English were in croke Park they drove in with a tank and opened fire on the Irish crowd watching a Gaelic football match and killed 14 innocent civilians and wounded hundreds
Snowflake 178 indeed, wasn't having a go at them, just stating the facts for this young man looking for them. Was a fine display of sportsmanship from both nations
@Florentine 193 The England team travelled to Dublin during the height of the troubles to play, even after Scotland and Wales had cried off due to fears of violence.
That day the English received their standing ovation from the Irish crowd.
I’m a Northern Irish man (I bet you all could guess which side I was brought up on by saying that) and watching Shaggy dot down that perfect Gaelic try is a thing of beauty. Thank f**k for rugby bringing us all together. We can have differences and still be good people. FFS we can all have a drink and a laugh together, even after all the shit!
Well said!
2 years late but, love this lad
Well said lad
You know what, as an Englishman I appreciate and actually quite enjoy watching this game-it's one of those matches a neutral can watch over and over again and few other English losses give that sensation! Ireland showed truly outstanding grit and skill to take a victory they simply had to take.
Well said. 👍
So proud of Ireland... and the Irish crowd for remaining quietly respectful of the singing of GSTQ on that day, in that location. Irish dignity and maturity as a nation was on display.
I'm French. I told my father England had lost the game even before the kick-off. He asked me how could I say that. I answered to him the anthems, and especially Ireland's call, united the country and 6 millions of fans where behind the 23 boys in green. This plus the history and the context, you could gave England 23 unbeatable All Blacks but Ireland would still have won.
I'll give everything I own to travel back and attend this game. The atmosphere was crazy even behind a TV. But i'd be happy to attend an Ireland England game one day. Definitely something to watch
Oh oh oh, what a moving video and what a great pleasure to watch again these highlights with tears in my eyes as a French Fan of the Irish Team ! As sang Lou Reed and U2, a perfect day, a beautiful day ! I just add : a Waterloo day for England, the English Fleet sank ! Outstanding and brilliant Green Army's performance ; there was only one Team on the pitch of THE Gaelic Stadium !
A beautiful revenge : winning that way in Croke Park, 87 years after the Bloody Sunday of 1920, a moving thought for the victims and especially for Michael Hogan ! Thanks so much Guys for that legendary match !
Can't believe I'm still going back to watch this. This day was so good it's up there with the Grand Slam
I read Donncha's book. He explained that his grandmother never really "got" rugby and his achievements. She'd nod and say "Very good" but clearly didn't understand the gravity of his achievements. She was a member of a GAA club in Cork, the social side of the club. She rang him in 2007. "Donncha is that right you're going to be playing the English at Croker?" "Yes gran." "Donncha, don't lose." Not much pressure there then...
Class
Says it all .
that really was a perfect day.. the national anthems sent shivers up my spine then to go on and win like that was amazing.. I'll never forget that day.. you can only understand it if you are an irish man..
I still remember the day even though I was young, so much controversy over the game. Only right that Ireland beat England by that much due to history of Croker and Ireland's history with England.
16 years to the day, still brings tears.
You aren't one bit teary
I watch this every year before the 6 nations or big events... Always brings tears to the eyes.
That cross kick try was one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen in sport.
My Great grandmother left ireland at the time of the famine Which sounds a long time ago but In family It isn’t. For some strange reason my mother always said we were not Irish, and I never really forgave her for that. I am Scots - Irish, I am a Celt And proud of that. Reading about Crome park It’s something very emotional for me, I can only think these things travel in our blood
The weight of history meant that Ireland were never ever going to lose that game.
I wouldnt be able to live with myself if we ever lost to england at Croker
Summed up very well at the end proud day for ireland and everybody massively proud to be irish!
I'm a frenchman living in dublin but still,I had goosebumps watching this...thanksfor the upload
This video gives me chills down my spine. Thanks so much for posting (without techno music in the background).
Finally a video of this match without crap music! Thank you.
Unfortunately I've had to delete some inappropriate comments, and if they continue I'll disable comments completely as I don't have time to regularly monitor what's being written. That would be a great shame because it was a magnificent sporting occasion and deserves to be discussed.
Of course there's a great deal of pride up for grabs when Ireland play England in any sport, but don't bring the tone down to name-calling, bigoted comments and slogans. It's not a Celtic v Rangers football game.
The Horgan try, obviously incredible execution from rog and unbelievable take from shaggy, but it was the no holds barred carry from leamy on the preceding phase that created the time and space. For about three years from 2006 to 2008 Denis leamy was one of the best backrows on the planet and he doesn’t get the credit. That’s from a die hard Leinster fan (not that that should matter…so why did I say it….anyway…)
Thank you from France to beat the english :). It's always a pleasure
still brings tears to my eyes great video
Massive Massive Respect to GAA...They contributed to Peace between the Warriors
England were never taking that game. It was always damage limitation for them. That was pure passion at its best!
Great game
In an interview (can't remember who it was) someone said it was very difficult to gauge the size of the pitch!😁
Wallace is so underrated
An absolute beast ..
Not a big rugby fan at all, but Ireland in the 6 nations is special.
thanks for uploadin man, i've been searching for one with commentary for ages now!
i hope to god someday croke park hosts another game. what a fucking stadium
England beaten before they entered the field
Never in my life did I feel so proud to be Irish, im from Dublin, my best mate is a Corkman, my amazing wife is from Galway and my cousins are from Belfast, this is 1 special little country IRELAND FOREVER 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
I was there! and my heart nearly bursted with pride when my fellow Countrymen put the past behind them... and paid due respects to our closest neighbours National Anthem! It goes without saying that I nearly burst my lungs singing my National Anthem...and I will take the memory of that perfect day to the grave!
Amen.
great match! Watched this with the grandaugther that day. We had a roast beef and vegetables afterwards! Yummy stuff ahaha
There was honestly no way Ireland would have been allowed lose that day 🇮🇪
@Horsehoundable You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed it. The roar of the crowd is the only music that the video needs.
3:05 Shane Horgan what a try
64th minute, best try I've ever seen in my life. The English didn't stand a chance on paddys day in croker in the first non gaelic game to be played on that pitch. what a day.
I wish it had finished 19-16 to Ireland with O'Gara scoring a last-minute conversion after a last-minute try like Shane Horgan's.
They'd have cheered in every graveyard in Ireland. haha
A great display of rugby. Ireland gave them a good drubbing. An emotional day for the Irish, for sure.
In hindsight, I think the occasion weighed more on the English than us ,we had generations of will built ready to unleash ,given the right atmosphere...it almost seems to have sulked the life outa the English, they were like school boys by the end ....no offence intended I'm delighted it went off respectfully.
that try in the 65th minute... thing of beauty. dropped that coin magnificently into the slot
The 14 were in the stand that day too
@MsRonayne This was the second rugby game to be played in Croker, we played France two weeks before this game.
Munster Connacht Leinster need Ulster. Ulster need Leinster Connacht Munster. We can achieve great things together both on an off the pitch.
Is the full match available?
dempsey most underated player a great player
Pinpoint accuracy from O'Gara?... You don't say
Go on the irish
best game EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wish I got tickets to see it xxx
proud to be irish
bit of an understatement
Although I’m a unionist from Northern Ireland, I don’t like the English much. Glad we beat them in this day considering the significance
Ae you sure you're actually as Unionist? ;-)
Tbf the English don't like you
And neither do the rest of the Brits
You are just Irish to them lad
try which resulted from the cross kick was just osm!!!! that was brilliant
Ah the memories.
Actually - I believe the first non Gaelic game to be played was an American Football game some years back.
yeah but thats not a british sport
Ireland should have won the Grand Slam that year
God love Ireland
Bump .. Wow!
Irish rugby is the best
THE FULL MATCH IS NOT IN RUclips,WHY
Watching this through u tube and a television . No thanks .
POC has hair?
Seeing a different sport from Gaa being played in Croker is so trippy
Any sport could be played at croke park and the atmosphere would be terrific it’s a great stadium better then the Aviva stadium
O'Callaghan gets the try in the exact same spot that a Tipperary man, Hogan was shot by the english
That was Dempsey!
@@markalexwhite shit it took 7 years to get that mistake sorted 🤣🤣
@@irishwolfhound1448 😅🤣
Try given!!!❤❤❤
awh what a day thank fuk we bet em especially in croker
I
pity they couldnt play like this durin the 2013 6 nations i know they had injuries but the passion i dont think was there...maybe i am wrong
not just sporting history
GAA ...You came good x
Id say england where beaten before the whistle blew to be fáir
Its got milder since d wind dropped
All you need to do now is edit Ryle Nugent's voice out! ;)
BOOM
We weren't far off it.
I am Irish a need to know how to get on U tube fast when I have been on some other other things like subscribe and I want to
the shear horniness of that game is unreal
Very good Irish performance but England were absolutely dire in this period.
paddys day in croker is for the GAA club championship finals in croker. You must have your dates wrong.
great day.
A 19-16 outcome would have been perfect. We'll take the result anyway.
And Muhammad Ali fought at Croke park in 1972 but I don't know if boxing applies to the rules set up by the GAA.
The ban only applied to certain sports soccer rugby hockey cricket. That was the ban,but probably the same sports were not allowed to be played in croke park.Sports like boxing athletics horseracing are neither irish nor british. You have queensbury rules, laid out in england, but the GAA never bothered with combat sports,it could there native forms of wrestling ,but they did not take them on board
Yippee.
Man i followed your link from the other video..thanks you bud you havent ruined this with horseshit music. Fair play to ya. Thanks

Theo shouldn’t be allowed into part of the gaa eejit English 🏐🏐🏐🏐🏐gaa on top #1
England were never going to win on that day. This one ment to much to the irish. I wonder if the English players knew why?
johnson sat in teh stands and watched ireland destroy englend
Ireland.....thank god for alcohol otherwise this little island would have ruled the world many eons ago...erin go brah brothers!!
As good a day as this was (and nobody was going to beat us) this was a very very shit English side
I'm glad Shane Horgan retired, because he smells like pancakes.
Shameful day in Irish Rugby, I was there and booed god save the Queen and many others did but media edited it out
Joe Rogan why? No one on that English squad had anything to do with the troubles, our with the terrible history between our two countries, and we absolutely destroyed them in the game.
you're an idiot mate... they edited it out of the live broadcast did they?
You're shameful for booing it,
ICryWhenICum001 I didn't say the players had anything to do with it. Britain occupies part of Ireland. If France invaded England do you think they would play France and act like everything is normal?
Snowflake 178 France doesn't currently divide England by force and occupy one corner of it. Britain has no right to any part of Ireland.
It's a shame we won't see many more games like this at Croke Park. :(
Foreign.sports shouldn't be played at Croker
Shane Horgan's try is the greatest ever single moment in Irish Rugby history. Just that one single moment. The day. The location. The history. The emotion. The opponents. And THAT kick and then the over-the-head GAA style catch, then a try. Place went absolutely insane. Never to be repeated. Amazing.
Agree, it was a spectacular moment that settled the game as a contest
