Had the privilege of being in Twickenham that day, I had the ref mic and started jumping around when I heard the TMO say "you may award the try". Euphoric leaving the ground and no "Swing low" shite to listen to! In my top three sporting moments!
In my view, the best Irish try of the 2000's. Overturned an English win in the final three minutes and what a reach from Horgan, one of Ireland's finest all-time wingers (and I'm a Munster fan).
Oh god I remember being furious with Ireland kicking the ball into touch twice in the final minute. We were chronic for doing it back then, zero confidence in our ability to retain possession.
Yes. O gara kicks it out twice in the last minute. I saw him do that against France. Went for goal from too far out when we had a penalty, 70 secs left. Missed and up came les Blues to score.
He kicked it out because time should have been up, but the officials hadn't restarted the clock when he was setting up the conversion. So time should've been about 90 seconds ahead. That was the message he had gotten.
It was a lack of composure that came with not being used to winning big games. I remember we on the triple crown in 04’, 06’ and 07’ and thought it was great but we kept losing to France. The 07’ in particular with Vincent Clerc at Croke Park still hurts to this day even with the titles and grand slams we have won since then.
The bounce was very favourable in that chip and chase from ROG, just like the one against Wales in 2009 Grand Slam, great skill with a bit of luck. Sexton and Murray are Ireland's most successful (and probably best) ever 9 and 10, perform well throughout the game for 80 minutes, but, Stringer and ROG had some individual moments of shear brilliance. Stringer going for the big pass in that area at that stage of the game is risky but he knew when to do it, ROG's kicking game was exceptional, cross field, for touch, penalties, conversions, the odd chip, he's one of the greats
Heady days indeed tremendous try by Shane big assist from Drisco and the genius at No.10 his kick ahead and never to be forgotten slotted conversion. Erin go Bragh
Long be the days when a triple crown win for ireland were an outstanding achievement for an irish rugby team. It was a trophy though..and we loved it. Something the equivalent of a charity shield now in soccer terms.
England played their best rugby of that year's tournament in this game. They can (and did) feel aggrieved at a couple of odd decisions by the officials. Horgan's first try was dubious as Horgan appeared to step on the tramline before racing to cross the tryline. Denis Leamy's try was perfectly legal, but it came from a lineout that was given after Ben Cohen had legally thrown the ball to himself after gathering from an Irish kick to touch. That said, this try was superb, and off a good scrum from a front row that had been pummelled by Julian White and Andrew Sheridan throughout the entire match. O'Gara's conversion was sublime. What a pity that we couldn't beat the French in Paris that year.
Couldn't give a toss if Horgan was slow (he could fairly shift in my eyes...), he was a brute and just bulldozed players out of his way in a Lomu-esque style. Gave us a victory over the English so I'm not gonna complain.
Why the hell did O'Gara kick it out with 20 seconds left on the clock, specifically after being told 'No' by the referee? Gave England another shot at a try, could have been disastrous. His decision-making baffled me at times. Lucky we won!
Could not hear at the time, noise was deafening. Majestic kicking and saved Stringers ass in the end. Stringer should have thrown it back for easy touch.
OpalSnr That was before the rule change. Then, you could pass the ball back into the 22 and kick out on the full, whereas now of course if that were to happen today the line out would be from where the ball was kicked.
@@inBODwetrust13 think you're forgetting that it was O'Gara who started that move out of nothing,it was O'Gara who hit the ruck first after Horgan got tackled short of the line, who kicked the touchline conversion after not kicking well all game? remind me of that please.remind me also who was 6 nations top try scorer in 2007? ngl it's pretty disgraceful how a winger can't outrun and beat a number 7 to the line. like respect Moody being a fast player and all but come on, it looks like Horgan had a fair bit of a head start
Moody was ahead & already moving faster as Horgan received. Then Horgan slowed down instead of just racing for the line to ensure possession. But let's face it he was never Habana
He wasn’t though. Pause the video at 0:04 and look at the angle of the line vs the angle of O’Driscoll to O’Gara. He’s clearly level or just behind the kicker

Is that a young Nigel Owens?!?
Amazing try, amazing conversion by ROG.
That conversion was pretty intense! he soaked up the pressure well.
Especially after he had kicked fairly badly for most of the match, think he missed two or three that weren't too difficult, some balls on him

Love O'Gara's intensity! Bit of the same tomorrow thank you very much!
"Shane Horgan is the hero. And what a hero." 👍

I was working in a bar during that match. I am not going to lie there were a lot of thirsty punters at this stage of the game!!!

And now we got O'Gara & Horgan as panalists on RTE1.......CLASS!

There are two very good pieces of rugby here, Moody's tackle at 0.13 is very impressive too.

The happiest of many happy days .
Always hated Stringer's look to put the ball out himself - it wasn't just the once he did it. Pass it to your out-half and let him put it out.
EoinFC shut up u muppet
Jamie O Toole I speaketh the truth.

no we'll see one who's a far more rounded player, isn't a liability in defence and is more of a threat to the opposition try line with ball in hand
Walter White we have Jonathan Sexton now. Without the best OH to ever play for Ireland.
