I still remember watching game 7, in the top of the 6th inning, how when Endy Chavez went up into the air, into the stars, to take away that Rolen home run and then throw to first base for the inning-ending-double-play, I remembered going “It doesn’t get any better than this for the Mets”…… And I was right, it didn’t get any better for the rest of the game.
That was a BRUTAL bottom of the 6th inning, with Jose Valentin not being able to score the runner that was on third with one out.
And then that Yadier Molina home run that left me in silence in the top of the 9th inning.
And then that BRUTAL bottom of the 9th inning.
I remembered that when Beltran struck out, I remembered just turning off the TV, going to sleep, and then avoiding ESPN, avoiding any local papers/local media, and avoiding any other sports website for like a month.
It wasnt until mid-November, when I got back to sports in watching the NFL, that I finally knew who won the World Series between Cardinals-Tigers.
But what surprised me the most was that the Mets wouldnt make the postseason again in a decade when they finally made it in the 2015 postseason.
I really thought that the Mets, with this core, were gonna be in the postseason many times for the rest of the 2000’s decade, especially with the opening of a new stadium in 2009.
Little did I know about all the regular seasons heartbreaks and frustrations that awaited Mets fans after this 2006 season.

In end though the cards showed more grit and had a tremendous playoffs, and as a Mets fan guys like Belliard and Ekstein gave me fits. What’s often forgotten was that although the Mets were better in ‘06, this was essentially the same Cardinals roster that won 105 games in ‘04 and 100 games in ‘05, minus Larry Walker and Renteria. The low win total the following year was in large part due to a pileup of injuries, but that ‘06 team was made up of the same core group who went to the WS in ‘04 and NLCS in ‘05. By the time they got healthy, the ‘06 Cards were chomping at the bit to make up for the prior two years. So many ppl just looked at their record that year and forgot this was an org making it’s 5th trip to the NLCS in 7 years. They were beyond due honestly.

Joe Buck was the worst announcer in baseball. He said Wainwright's curveball was tough, especially for a left handed batter. It's a 12-6 curve that doesn't move left/right, he even says that himself. It is equally effective for a batter on either side of the plate. Buck didn't understand pitching and was always biased in favor of the Yankees. He was a Yankees homer when he called their games. He may as well have worn pinstripes. He was only there because of his dad, he was a no talent hack.

2:46:14 Rolen bounced when he was asked LaRussa. Does any Cards fans have any insight what was going on with Rolen and LaRussa's relationship that season?

Rolen got mad that larussa benched him for spiezio in several games because rolen had a shoulder injury. I’m guessing he just wanted to enjoy the victory and not rehash a feud that was over.

I recall waiting for my Queen outside her job that night on west 46th street in Manhattan and just about everybody was dressed in blue and orange, shouting and cheering to the top of their lungs (until Y. Molina hit that 2-run homer in the top of the ninth inning)

It’s a miracle the Mets made it this far in the post season. As buck pointed out. The Mets had one established starter…. A 40+ year old glavine. With Pedro out. Maine and Perez held it together.

No Bob Forsch or Danny Cox for the Cardinals, or Bobby J. Jones for the Mets, either. Was Mets' Paul LoDuca part of Arizona State's 1993 College World Series team when Dave Roberts, Aaron Boone & A.J. Hinch also played in the conference now called the Pac-12?
