  • Finnair's new AirLounge seat has just debuted! I got a tip off an upgraded A330 was flying the London - Helsinki route and so naturally I just had to check it out. I was very unsure as to whether I would like this new seat, which doesn't recline, has only one mechanical part and represents a big risk on the part of Finnair....so....I went to try it. And loved it. These seats are coming to all their long haul wide body fleet, both A330 and A350. Hope you enjoy the video!

    I flew this seat SIN-HEL in the beginning of March and it is very very good! Pics really don’t do justice how much more space you have. I am a restless flyer - the ability to fold my feet under me without hitting anything and to be able to turn my whole body to lean on one side or the other (you have the whole shell to lean on, the storage cubby has the same padding) made it very comfy for 12+ flight.
    You’ll get a regular and a gel pillow which you can use to build your own “Z position”.
    For night flight AY will also supply a mattress pad. Paul forgot to mention this, but the seat has a separate sleeping seatbelt which completely removes the awkward dance of trying to wrap yourself in a regular seatbelt for sleeping.
    And yes, there is much more space for sleeping as well.

    Agreed with your video. I flew on this to and from Singapore. It’s a 13h flight to Helsinki and these seats make the time fly. It’s such a refreshing design because you have so much room when the leg rest is up, It’s like sitting on a couch. I got about 8h uninterrupted sleep on this seat, this is rare for me. I loved the table and the way it can go from a large table to a small one by moving it into various positions. My current favourite business class seat!

    • @Paul_Lucas

      I’m hoping to fly to Singapore soon on it! People don’t like the seat until they actually fly it, I think. It’s a much better concept than reverse herringbone.

    I’m so glad this seat is getting good reviews. I personally welcome the more open, minimalist business class seat mentality. I’ve been very privileged to have flown biz class a few times in long haul and loved it, but I think this is the ideal way to give the body the space and stretching room it needs for long haul. Sure having that z position is very nice when lounging, but if they give pax a husband pillow or cushions to mimic it then I think this seat can be one of the best in the world.

    As you said, Finnair made the business class way simpler, whereas other airlines try to make it lavish and have the best amenities like the Qsuite

    • @Serena_9
      @Serena_9 2 года назад +2

      Qatar does not try to make it, but the Qsuite is the best. None other European airlines could compete with. When you pay €3000-€7000 on long haul you don’t want simple food, simple seat, but you want everything top notch at its best.

    Great video! It looks awesome, I wouldn't miss the recline one bit, never using it myself (but I can see some people missing it, so might divide the crowd)! So the added space seems well worth it. I must also say it looks gorgeous! Really good to see someone trying something else, hope to get a chance to try it out myself!

  • @jelmer4247
    @jelmer4247 2 года назад +8

    Personally their are 4 reasons why I prefer long haul business over economy. Proper meals ☑ , a nice flat bad ☑ , adjustable seat with individual control over the recline and the legsupport ❌ . So in my opinion its a great product for a fully overnight flight. But if im travelling daytime I would choose an other product because I prefer some recline and legsupport when I'm watching movies on the IFE.

    My first business class experience from Australia to the UK was with Finair, and these seats are so nice, very comfortable and would recommend them and the Airline to anyone, the new designed seats are way better than most of thier competitors, very private too and sleeping in them was also comfortable and i had plenty of space, and coming with a type of matress to sleep on and blanket. 10/10 for me.

    One potential issue I can see is that on these seats when you enter bed mode, your head is now going to be in the area, and among the surfaces, where previously your nether regions were.
    Let's hope the materials don't hold on to odours. It would be bad enough to lie down and catch a whiff of your own emissions, but those of a previous passenger as well ???

      and empty middle seat business class on the narrow bodies LOL

    • @JethroBrink
      @JethroBrink 2 года назад +1

      This certainly is not representative of what real intra-Europe business class is. This Finnair is running long haul aircraft on short haul routes only temporarily (likely to train pilots rapidly following down time over the pandemic). Normal intra-Europe business class is just an economy seat with the middle seat blocked, and food included. British airways runs one flight per day LHR to MAD on a 777. Turkish is the only exception, with proper business class seats run regularly intra-Europe.

    • @Paul_Lucas
      @Paul_Lucas  2 года назад +2

      To be clear, Finnair runs 330/350 on the London route daily, and sometimes double daily, and has done since 2015. It’s not a pandemic thing. British Airways no longer fly a 777 to Madrid. Iberia do however have some daily or double daily 330/350 rotations.

    Perhaps a small negative is that there is no recline like you mentioned. But at the same time, my couch doesn't recline, and I'm able to still be comfortable in it! Seems like a pillow would solve that issue. Great seat that I think many of us overlooked.

      All of their A330 and A350 aircraft will have the refurbished cabin with the new seats by the end of 2023. :)

    Excellent Video as always Paul 👏👏
    My eagle eyed son who also highly rates your videos, your comment as you touched the plane as you boarded - “Liverpool to win the quadruple” 🙂
    🤞🤞🤞🤞 let’s hope so!
    Safe travels - looking forward to the next trip

    Paul, great video as usual. I love your positive approach to everything and handy little tips. I'd love to see more economy flights please. Do you have a favorite economy class from LAX/SAN to New York?

    Thank you Paul. Tq for ratifying that you are not sponsor by any airlines. Unlike some FAMOUS youtuber. Snobbish and fake comment to review an airlines rather they just focus on their own self. Love your vid as always. Thank you again. 👏👏👏👏👏✌️

    Thank you.
    Shame about the Emerald lounge in HEL but you didn't have long there anyway.
    When things calm down I'll give it a test drive also.

    Good point to notice the USB-C plug! Just as we finally got power onto most airplanes and trains, now everything device wants a different kind of USB. It's hard to keep up! (everything can be adapted, but then your carry-on is full of weird cables)

    Great video Paul. Being from the United States I am jealous of the food offerings in Europe on flights. Love Finnair!!!

    I use Finnair OSL-LHR (via HEL) currently as the direct flights on BA so often get cancelled its a pain. Love flying on the AY A330s and A350s, great airline.

    Great video - I would have liked to see more of the seat in flat bed mode as this is a major change for business class and it was a little dark

    Got a flight to Singapore later this year with Finnair and am hoping to get a refurbished plane to try this seat! Looks incredible for the now 13hour journey!

    I have been in a few toilets with a window & I love it. Makes it less claustrophobic, roomier. Amazed how often the window shade is closed - I guess some people think that god may be lurking outside of the window.
