      Hi!
You should try finnair business class on a long hoal flite from Helsinki to asia or to the Us because then on those flites they have long hoal service.
Finnair operates short hoal service on flites in Europe and to the middle east.

16:39 My parents told me the same: "We will fly eco class and if you want travel business class later, you will have to earn it.", when we flew Air Transat and I was eyeing the Club Class, Air Transat's business class offering. Now I am traveling on my own and I often end up with biz class or first class with the Deutsche Bahn.

Finnair doesn’t consider Dubai as a “long haul destination”, therefore service on board is the same as on European routes. Economy class doesn’t have meal service on HEL-DXB, which doesn’t make sense as it is a 6h30 flight on a wide body jet…

    • @spinalcrackerbox
      @spinalcrackerbox 2 года назад +20

That really doesn't make sense but that means they operate the routes like a low cost carrier.

That's sad, in India where I live air india offers pretty decent meal service on a 40 min flight for 3500 rupees (46 dollars) with ni extra charges in economy class. Finnair should consider meal service.

Even on the long haul flights they only offer two meal choices and packaged snacks. Considering the low price point though, one can't really expect much more.
That being said, 6.5 hours is a long time to go between meals, especially for children. I don't think I would choose to fly economy with them unless I was very short of cash and absolutely had to travel.

I had a 8 hour flight from Dubai to Helsinki and they didn't even offer to pre order food. So the only thing to have was water/blueberry juice for 8 hours as they ran out of Chips/noodle which one could buy!

Finnair is one of the very few western airlines that is willing to expand into popular Asian destinations and offers long haul service with no competition, like Busan, Fukuoka, Sapporo etc

    • @albedo0point39

Helsinki has a unique location on the flight path between Europe, over Siberia to Asia. So it’s quicker to fly via Helsinki than the other European hub airports.

One thing that the review omitted - and I think it’s worth sharing - Finnair’s A350 business class has an incredibly narrow footwell. It makes sleeping difficult for people who are 6 feet tall or more because there is really only one position where both of your feet will fit. So if you want to turn, it’s hard and you will likely wake up every time. It’s a good airline and a good product overall (normally better than what is shown in this review), but if you value good sleep and you are tall, be aware.

Travelled Finnair in 2018 long haul, full menus, welcome drinks, etc. the lounge in Helsinki is really nice. I like how they’re noticeably different from other airlines, the Scandinavian feel I guess. Def recommend trying them again.

Hyvää päivää Josh!! Thanks for the review, I always enjoy the rare reviews of my national carrier. I also took this exact flight a few weeks back, and yes, like you found out at the hotel the flight is classified as a European flight. That’s why only one meal option, no predeparture drink, economy blanket etc. I do remember also flying this route on the A321, and compared to that this is much preferred. But still, Finnair does have quite a lot of options to customize your trip online, where you’re able to for example order a vegetarian meal etc, to ensure you get what you like. In real long haul business class, I’ve been presented with predep. drinks, paper menus, real blankets, lots of food options etc. Maybe some day you’ll try Finnair’s marketing tactic, which is the ”shortest route from Asia to Europe” and try again?
Thanks again for the review, I agree it was a bit of a bizzarre experience but I still hope you had a good impression atleast of the crew, and ofcourse that you enjoyed Helsinki;) When you come back, you should definetly visit Lapland!! Looking forward to that review:)

No issue with kids in business...if they have been taught how to behave in public. I have kids and they have flown business a couple of times...they never made loud noises or ran around the plane! Just like parents who allow their kids to run around restaurants, etc. I prefer the 787. Great review!

Hi Josh, I am an international (Belgian) TV producer that travels where the productions take me... mostly to Africa. I would like to recommend a very underrated African airline Rwandair, which I have flown on a number of occasions. It is truly affordable, efficient and service all round is very acceptable. their connections in Kigali are good and if you have to overnight they provide transport to your hotel and back to the airport. I do feel they could market their airline better. Just a thought! Cheers Robert

Josh, that's not entirely regular flight. That's package charter for Aurinkomatkat (Suntours). They sale seats on normal finnair booking system, but generally speaking it's holiday charter pretty much same as TUI for example and service option is very limited. What I'm trying to say that it's not typical business class experience you've normally would get on regular service. This also explains low fare for business class.

I certainly do remember my first (and only) business-class flight. It was a Swiss flight out of Boston to Zurich, as the first leg of a ridiculously long and exhausting itinerary to Istanbul that I had devised as a money saver. I had booked an economy ticket, but about two minutes before boarding I was called to the counter and informed that I had been upgraded. After watching your channel for a while I can say that Swiss business class is hardly spectacular in the broader scheme of things, but it seemed pretty awesome at the time. Lie-flat seat with no neighbor, cocktails at boarding, a menu with several choices, and really superbly attentive and caring crew who seemed to take real pride in representing Swiss quality. For instance, I ordered breakfast before going to sleep, and when it was served the attendant said "The Danish was a bit small today, so I brought you a couple of pain-au-chocolat and a mimosa as well." 1000 points for effort. It's really hard to go back to coach after that.

I flew Finnair on their old A330 from JFK to Helsinki. The aircraft was old, but the inflight service was wonderful. Their blueberry cocktail and those wonderful glassware...nice! I also stayed at that Hilton, also nice.
Having said that, I would have hoped that their business class in the A350 would improve upon that of the A330, but that staggered configuration was actually better, although there was no WiFi on board.

Hi Josh! Thanks for your video. Dubai must be the weirdest route on the Finnair route map, at least when it comes to the hard product. They consider it to be a European (!?!) destination and therefore the service is the same as on European business class e.g. from Helsinki to London. The upside is, that for us Finnair Plus members the upgrade from economy to business is absolutely ridiculous - 10k points one way. At the same time the long haul upgrade would be 50k for the same cabin. That would for example be the case on a 8h 30min flight to New York where they have a totally different service and you definitely have your choice of meal :). It gets even more weird when you think about the Helsinki - Delhi route which is virtually the same length as Dubai, but Delhi is not considered "Europe" anymore. So, basically the service makes sense, but maybe it doesn't do justice to the A350 and the possibilities it gives also from a service standpoint. EDIT: Oh and about the wifi. I've noticed that if you're using a VPN the wifi doesn't connect. That might have been the reason for the issues, because I always stumble on that one too :)

The bonus is that you get the a350 on this normally A321 route. Before, this was operated on B757s by Finnair's holiday flights subsidiary, now merged into the main company. I hope you still enjoyed, the 10K upgrade from economy is a no-brainer.

Brilliant as always Josh! I agree with you about children, they shouldn't be in business class or first class, unless they remain in their seats and behave. I remember my first experience flying business class. It was 20 years ago flying from London Heathrow to Sydney with Austrian Airlines to Vienna and then Lauda Air to Sydney via Kuala Lumpur on a 777-200. It was an amazing experience, we had the equivalent of leather lazy boy reclining chairs, they didn't go flat but were so comfy when fully reclined and so much legroom, and the service was amazing, so much better than the economy class flight I took with Singapore Airlines on the 747-400 I took on the same route a few weeks before, it was the near 14 hour flight on the return flight being crammed in economy due to the strong headwinds that made me shop around for a business class seat when I flew back out. Such an amazing experience and the crew were brilliant. So glad I got to do it. Keep up the good work 🤗👍

Team Airbus all the way, do like the Boeings on JAL/ANA though, with the reason being Airbus usually have a "B-Class" and a "D-Class" configuration(2-4-2 and 3-3-3 on the A330 for example) while Boeing has "A-Class" and "C-Class"(2-4-2 and 3-3-3 on the B787 for example). As a consequence most airlines go with the "B-Class" configuration on Airbus and "C-Class" on Boeing, making Airbus most comfortable on Economy most of the times. I mostly fly Premium Economy though.
btw my first Business flight was an unexpected upgrade with Lufthansa (FRA-PEK), somehow broke the seat and it took the flight attendants 5 minutes to fix- they said they never had this before!

First business class (actually first, but first time out of economy) was in 1998. I sold my life insurance because I was dying of AIDS, then the meds got good and I was no longer dying. So I started traveling. That first time with a welcome champagne, real glass and china, and amenities....magical!

Thanks for this review Josh. We’re flying business class on the A350 from Helsinki to Singapore next year so it will be interesting to see what it’s like. It will be my first European airline I’ve flown on.

I like Finnair's business service to Asia, nothing fancy but a good quality-price ratio. Nice Finnish-Asian crews, actually all Singaporean cabin crews on the S:pore flights.

My very first flight in J class was BKK-HEL on Finnair's MD-11, yeras back. Old shool angled biz seats, upgraded by points. So exciting, I was dead tired but didin't want to sleep so I wouldn't miss anything :D

I flew NORRA (the regional airline of Finnair) twice this year, once in Economy and once in business class and it was both beautiful. Once I flew with an ATR72 and once with the EMB 190. And blueberry juice is their speciality. Whilst the ATR 72 flight from Oslo to Helsinki was 100 % Economy, the EMB190 only has a Eco class seat as the "Euro business", you will get a full meal with bread, even on a flight of 2 hours from Helsinki to Frankfurt.
Josh, you are making the best, honest and unscripted flight reviews around here!

I've flown in just every Airbus and Boeing product and favour Airbus aircraft. Boeings are OK, but there's an airy, spacious feel in Airbus, and they seem smoother and quieter. From my experience A350 and A380 are a cut above B787 and B777 in every way, and the A320 family illustrate just how old-fashioned the B737 is.

A beautiful aircraft Josh, and cut price business class, liked the seat and the kit. The interior spotless too, always a good sign. food choice a little one choice fits any, not right for business traveller who would want choice on a long flight. Thanks for the options.and showing us the flight.

When I was little my parents would often go on business trips and I would go with them a lot. I ALWAYS sat in economy or at most premium economy while my parents were up in business. I only flew business class on a flight with my parents after my graduation. I never really cared that much about sitting back there anyways, I understood since I was 7 or 8 that my parents have earned to sit in business class. These days I travel with my wife for business, for about 6 months out of the year we're airborne and while we dont have kids yet, I would teach them the exact same lessons my parents taught myself all those years ago.

We traveled with FINAIR from HK to Helsinki then Helsinki to Paris with our 8yr old daughter.
Yes the business class seats were smaller than QANTAS but over all we had a fantastic experience with our trip.
The cabin staff were fantastic with our daughter (she was the only child in business class) and as it was a night flight we had a great restful journey.
This also included flying from London to Singapore with FINAIR.

Thanks for uploading this video. Business class is always a pleasure to travel on(for me at least), but of course, the prices can be scary; usually I got to travel on business class several times thanks to an upgrade.
I sure got a pleasant surprise when Josh confessed that he enjoys watching cricket 😁
Please keep up the good work.

On Finnair website under travel classes it does group short haul and Middle East as same category. So your flight was not classed as a long haul service.

Good thing that prices are low and food is limited. Prevents unnecessary wastage of food, which is bound to happen if there is too huge a variety.
