B-Wing always blew my mind as well as Slave-1. Typing this before watching.
Hey Joey, if you remove the landing gear on the falcon, and use a hairdryer to warm up the plastic tabs, you can bend them out a hair, hold in place while it cools, and then put them back in. They will then have the proper shape to stay locked when they are down. Hope this helps! 🤘

Since we are both in SD, I know you know Plaza Bonita in National City. I remember we were getting ready to leave the mall and my mom and my little sister went to get me from the arcade. As we both were walking out of the Gold Mine, my Dad was standing there with a brand new AT-AT. I was so happy. One of my fondest memories of my Dad. Now my kids admire the AT-AT among the my Vintage Collection. Thanks for the uploads Joey. Great content as always.

Joey, I would have bought that for $400 too without hesitation. It was beautiful, and the wait of having it graded and not being able to see it, would justify that extra $100. Great find my friend, and congratulations on 15k!!!! You are on fire!!!!!!!

I really can't argue with your top 10 list at all, as all these were fantastic toys with wonderful feats of engineering creating so many beloved play features. I'm always astounded at the engineering that was put into these Kenner products from 40 years ago. Not only did they stand the test of time when I played with these things as a kid, within reasonable play of course, but they're still here 40 years later and mostly functioning. As for your unresearched purchase - I've been victim to my own impulse buying as well and have overpaid on a few items, that's just part of the game. The ebb and Flow of buying vintage, sometimes you get a deal on sometimes you overpay. But it's always a good lesson, and thankfully you didn't overpay by too much. I've been looking at Scout walkers also, and your box looks very nice. Almost hard to believe that little crush on top cost 40 points in grading. Oof! In a way it's almost too bad that it's graded and not loose, but it is sealed, so you might as well have it graded right? Have not seen an AT-ST driver with the pink discoloration/fade, but still this guy will look great in your display Joey. As always, another interesting and informative video. Always fun watching your collection grow and learning along the way as well.

That doesn't seem like too much for a AT-ST in a ESB box graded. Those are more rare in ESB box with Hoth scene (it looks the coolest anyway 👌😉). Jedi logo with Hoth scene lesser amount. Then Jedi box with Endor scene should be the least pricey.👍 Sometimes a grade can devalue an item.

Really great video Joey and thank you for sharing the news about my book and RUclips Chanel, much appreciated! Buying a MISB toy is always special because you can't see what's inside the box. Long ago I was lucky enough to get unused dry tape boxes vehicles. It was cheaper and you can check if the toy is compete too. From an engineering point of view Kenner develop some of the best toy ever made and that's really cool you give tribute to those who created these wonders! Bravo Joey ! MTFBWY !

I totally agree with your #1! When went to my grandparent's house for Christmas in 1981, I found an enormous box all wrapped up with a bow and tag that said 'To J.W. From Grandma & Grandpa' on it. I'd never been more excited to get a present before because I had a guess of what it might be. One of my guesses was right when I finally go to open it (as a kid, waiting until after Christmas dinner for present opening time seemed like an eternity) and it was the AT-AT! I played with it all evening until they insisted that I go to bed. :) I've really never stopped playing with it since. It still stands proudly on guard in my living room. Somehow, even the box, instruction book and Christmas card that Grandma always taped to her presents have survived and I've got them in my storage unit. One time, not long after my wife and I were married, we were going through stuff in preparation to move and she asked me about all these toy boxes that I had. I told her that we needed to keep them because they were worth almost as much as my childhood toys themselves. Good thing she asked, or I'd have lost them then.
The AT-AT is, as far as I'm concerned, the best toy ever made. Not just Star Wars, but of any line. Like you say in your great video, it's everything - an action figure in its own right with poseable legs, head, side and chin guns; a vehicle to carry the 'mini-figures' in (the massively big ones were considered 'normal' size back then - you make a good point with the Star Wars min figures being based on the Fisher Price Adventure People which are very well made figures and vehicles in their own right) and a playset for creating your own action scenes. It's incredibly well engineered, especially the articulated neck and firing mechanisms which still work perfectly on mine all these years later. Being able to operate that from inside the body of the toy really fueled my continuing interest in puppetry, stop-motion animation etc. The chin guns even still light up and move back and forth. I've had to replace the little light bulb and the batteries a few times, but otherwise, everything else is original. A few of the stickers fell off over the years, but I managed to keep them and glue them back on with Elmer's glue many years ago. It's amazing how many different ways you can pose the legs and it will still stand on its own. I've not seen anything, even in modern times, that can compare to it. Yes, the more modern versions of the AT-ATs, like the one made in 2010, have movie accurate sound effects, more openable hatches, an included speeder-bike, etc. but it's basically a deluxe copy of the original rather than an original toy design itself. I wonder if the 2010 model will have any still totally intact examples of it that have been played with for 40 years someday.
I also agree that the Millenium Falcon deserves the number two spot. It's edged out by the AT-AT because the landing struts never did quite work as they were supposed to. It was super cool to hold it by the front strut and rest the ship on your arm while you 'flew' it all over the place though. I got mine for Christmas in 1982 and it seemed enormous compared to my skinny eight-year-old arm. It's really cool that you can open up the inside of the ship and put action figures in it - especially to operate the moving dorsal gun. It didn't come with a ventral (bottom) gun like the ship in the movie had and the playset interior and cockpit weren't quite to scale compared to the movie (come to think of it, the cockpit for the AT-AT wasn't either), but that didn't matter when you were an excited little kid thrilled to be able to play with an otherwise very accurate version of these iconic ships from the movies. The Falcon is practically a character in the movies in its own right with a sort of character of its own.
I'd give the number three spot to the Sandspeeder AKA Landspeeder. I was very excited to get mine for my birthday in 1978. It was my first Star Wars vehicle so it was quite a big deal to me. Unlike the AT-AT and the Falcon, it's almost perfectly to scale with the mini-figures. You can fit two figures in the cockpit seats. Had to take Obi Wan's vinyl cape of though. I bet a lot of vinyl capes got torn and/or lost due to all the times we took them off so that the figures could get into the vehicles. R2D2 and C3PO can ride on the back with their feet pegged to the back of the seats. A back seat would have been nice so C3PO could have at least rode inside. He fell off a lot when I'd roll the Sandspeeder across the kitchen linoleum floor. It was cool that it had retractable landing wheels, but I usually kept them down so that it could roll around. They did a pretty good job of hiding the wheels so that, from most angles, it looked like the ship was floating above the floor. The effect worked especially well if there weren't any passengers onboard as the weight of them made the wheels' springs stretch more. It was neat that the hood opened up too because my dad and grandpa had to work on the ranch vehicles a lot when I was a kid, so I was often pretending that Luke had to work on his Sandspeeder too.
The fourth spot I'd give to Darth Vader's TIE fighter and Luke's X-Wing fighter together. The first TIE fighter was pretty cool, but I passed on asking for it when I saw Darth Vader's in 1979. Both are very cool, but Darth Vader's is just a bit cooler with the angled side fins and black color. Mine still has a working light (though I've had to clean the contacts inside the battery compartment a few times to keep it that way) and the fins still pop off like they should. I also love that you can raise up the cockpit seat to make it easier to get an action figure in or out of it. I got this ship for my birthday before I got an X-Wing at a yard sale a year later (it was a little beat up and missing stickers, but it still worked well - very cool how the X wings lock into attack position when you press on R2D2's head) because I thought it was the coolest toy they'd done so far at the time.
Fifth I'd give to the Dewback with TaunTaun almost tying. It's a creature rather than a ship, but it still works as a vehicle. It edges out the Tauntaun just a bit for having that cool mechanic of the head moving back and forth when you move the tail. The saddles and bridles could have been a bit better made in terms of staying together, but they did stay intact on mine for about ten years before I had to glue them together again. They look very cool and both have the clever trapdoor to hide a mini-figure's legs while the saddles' molding makes it look like the figure is wearing chaps and straddling the saddle. They were great for outdoor play in snow or sand too.
Sixth to the very clever B-wing bomber. I never had one, but did admire them in the Sears Catalog for the clever cockpit and wing design. I'd say that the Slave-1 almost ties it for all the ways it moves and the detail of it. Slave-1 is a bit more famous and desirable now, but B-Wing edges it out with those folding wings.
Seventh, I'd give to the Speederbike because it's also perfectly scaled to the figures like the Tauntaun and Dewback are. It has issues with the break flaps popping off and being difficult to put back on right and it doesn't hide the fact that your original line mini-figure's unbendable legs are splayed out across the top of the bike quite unlike how the characters in the Return of the Jedi rode them. Otherwise, I'd give it a higher position. The Power of the Force 2 line's remake deserves mention here for keeping the great looking design of the ship, while releasing it with an included special Bikerscout who had bendable knees so that he could actually sit on it correctly.
Eight I'd give to the Imperial Shuttle. I never had one of these either, but it was quite a sight in the stores.
Nineth place on my list goes to the INT-4 Interceptor. It was a Mini-rig that didn't appear in the movies, but it's still a great design. It totally looks like something the Empire would have flown with its design that looks quite a bit like the cockpit/head of the AT-AT. When I got mine in 1983 for Christmas, I soon discovered that it would fit inside the body of my AT-AT so that's where it rode until the AT-AT Commander decided to deploy it to scout ahead or to help defend the Walker from Rebel fire. It's quite cool with its folding wings, red tinted cockpit window and nose gun. Of all the Mini-Rigs, it was the only one I wanted because it really looked like something that should have been in the movies.
Tenth place I'd give to the Imperial Troop Transporter that I got in 1985 for my birthday. It wasn't as famous as the other ships, but the Rebel version of it (minus the gun turrets and prisoner containment pods) was in a couple of scenes in the movies. It's quite practical too for carrying seven mini-figures both in terms of in-play logic and a practical way to carry and store the toy figures. It has the hidden wheels so that it appears to float too. It was one of the first toys to make multiple sound effects from the movies which makes it quite cool. The turret and radar dish on top move in sync with each other as well. Had they showed the Imperial one in the films and had scenes of Rebels being captured and put in it, I think it would have been a more popular toy at the time.
Great idea for a video! Kenner really made these ships and mounts quite well. Most of them had lots of play value (were 'toyetic' as the president of Kenner used to say), durable, safe for kids of most ages to play with and many of them looked just like the versions in the films thanks to Lucasfilm giving Kenner blueprints and detailed sketches of the models that they used for the action scenes.

I have both. The falcon really did have the edge. It’s very diverse. The ATAT is super cool. But you’re really need other toys to really play with it. It needs something to interact with. Vs. the Falcon which only needed the Falcon to play with. You didn’t even need the figures. You could just zoom it around in pretend space, using the front landing strut as a grip.
No Doubt, the AT-AT is number one!

I actually overpaid about $200 on an original Beatles Vinyl a few years ago. But I honestly don’t care now because it is one of my favorite items I’ve ever purchased.

Sometimes it’s not about the money. It’s about the item and what it means to you. At the time you got it, we’re you happy with your purchase? If yes then you won. You’ll get your money back in time.
Great list - I would replace the b-wing for the troop transport - being created pre-computer chips using a plastic record and plastic amplifier I am still amazed by whomever it was that came up with and engineered and that it was durable and the sound feature was never affected with rough play. Being a time when you couldn't watch the movie over and over at home, this toy was the one that let you truly recreate the feeling you had watching, and hearing, the actual movie. That alone distinguishes it from all other toys. The one redeeming aspect of the b-wing is the gravity feature, which I think the Slave one covers. I have repaired many of these and it never gets old taking one apart and marveling at such analog artistry. Again, great video. I hope that Rancor is still the one I hooked you up with :) Eric

I have to say I have always been interested in the design and engineering behind not only vintage toys but if you look at the PotF and the Prequel/Clone Wars toys they were so well thought out.
Looking at the TVC new vehicles I can't say the same thing in fact they seem more fragile.
The exception of course are the Haslab ones they are truly exceptional.
The info about why 3.75 was the scale chosen was gold.

I've got to make a new comment here because my RUclips often locks up when I try to edit a comment in the past month or so. It's weird. Anyway, I'd say that the AT-ST or 'Chicken Walker' is quite cool. I wanted one as a kid, but never got one. I'd rank it number eleven because while it's quite cool, its kind of like a mini version of the AT-AT. Probably why my family didn't get me one. They probably figured that I already had the bigger, 'better' walker already. :) Your segment in the video about the AT-ST is quite good and I'm glad to see it.
A few years ago, I got the modern version of the AT-ST on clearance at Walmart. Oddly enough, it doesn't have all of the features of the original, but it was significantly more affordable to me than an original vintage one and the price they go for now. I still like the look of my modern one and it displays very nicely near my AT-AT.

BTW, in the category of "overpaying.... I traded away $1800 worth of vintage SW, GIJoe (some of which was boxed), and modern SW - that included store displays - for what was a $1000 MOC. NO REGRETS. I'd do that deal every day of the week. Not everyone has a MOC Boba. And now it's worth more than a G. It's all good brotha if you love it.

At the rate the price of 1970s-1985 toys are going up, it won't matter that you paid 400 for it. It'll eventually be worth more than that before too long. And that its AFA graded will help with the price as well.

Plus as a collector myself I get really good deals on stuff all the time. So in the long run it will all even out.
The Troop Transport should have replaced the biker scout bike. I have 4 vintage bikes with scouts. They all have trouble staying up with the scouts on them. The troop transport has stayed solid!

Gave my entire collection away to a friend who lost his in a fire. And restarted agin around 1995. I recently allowed my nephew and daughter have full access to my collection. They opened up sealed toys of from over 25 years ago. I was so proud and happy for them. They are carrying the SW fandom forward ❤️
@@danrusso I refuse to display my biker scout seated on the bike. I have him standing next to the bike because I never liked the look of the scout on the bike. The articulation restrictions are the biggest flaw in vintage figures.

The ATST can’t beat the Y Wing. The ATST wobbles too much. I have 3 vintage ATST’s and a Y Wing. The Y Wing clearly stood up better over the these years.
