Can't believe my mind played the "gulp gulp gulp" audio every time Rick took a sip from his drink and it made me laugh every single time. Might have been watching TYSO too much lately lol
At the point where Rick expressed the unease relinquishing control of the edit. Thanks for linger there as long as you did. Respect for expressing vulnerability and also respecting the feeling of being stretch too far out of comfort. I'm a goblin that came here for Rick but will be checking out more of this pod for it's authenticity.
Really REALLY lame arbitrary complaint but I think it’d be great to have a wider angle to show where everyone is sat and the layout of the conversation. A bit confusing seeing people looking around and not knowing where anyone is in comparison to anyone else. Love the pod! Again, this isn’t ruining the podcast, it’s great, just a suggestion. Love you guys
I saw this early too. The reason is because the cameras behind Rick are pointing to the wrong person. When Rick looks towards the right at Rachel, and the shot goes to Rachel, she is also looking towards the right at Rick. This makes it seem like they are not looking at each other because they are looking in the same direction of the screen. It should always be 1 person looking right, and the other looking left. You'll see this done right in major productions. It's the natural 'feel' and observation if you are watching 2 people talk in person. It's also called the line of action in TV/film. Can be tricky to understand but makes a HUGE difference. I hope they catch it. Great podcast.
to be fair your comment is closer to the reason why comment sections were invented haha some of the other comments are the ones that are kind of lame and arbitrary .
Now I'm a glassman bopper and new to this pod but I loved it. Rachel and Olivia seem like such mellow, supportive people. I want them to be my friends tbh.
Rick and his podcast have been a big part of my week ever since discovering it on the Harry Mack episode just this year. I love it when following him reminds me of someone I've known about long before I knew of Rick, but Rick brings them back to my attention. Rachel is one of those who I watched on the OC when it was on air. Loved and watched every episode weekly. But had no idea she has a podcast. This was great!
Around 50 minutes the conversation felt so important yet so so personal. When I'm lucky enough to tune into Rick sharing very thoughtful conversations of his own struggles, it helps me put my own feelings into better words. But I do feel almost guilty for being allowed to tune in. After sharing such personal aspects of his life to be broadcast, the anxiety must feel nuts. The respect and gratitude I have for this man only grows with each conversation. Thank you!
I love Rick and watch everything with him that I stumble upon, so I'm for sure gonna watch this episode. One tiiiiny suggestion though, is to have one camera that captures all of you in frame, and not 3 separate on each of you. That feels a little zoom call-y to me, and I didn't even know if you guys were in the same room. But I'm sure this is gonna be great, Rick is fantastic and he's very good at making other people shine too.
Hello Rachel, put the two cameras that are behind the guest wider apart and then shoot across (the left camera should be shooting you and the right camera should be shooting Olivia). The direction that you're all looking at is going to change and that'll instantly make sense to the viewer. Love your podcast and Rick too.
Rick, you were wonderfully open, engaging and vulnerable on this podcast. This is one of the best versions of yourself. You were funny too, but not everything needed to be a bit. Loved it.
Great interview. I was just looking for The OC content and see my homeboy Rick. I’m a fan of TYSO and I was just gonna watch a couple minutes of this and then stayed for the whole show. Great show guys keep it up.
Talking about OCD, it might work better if you switched the sides you each are on, so that you're on the same side as the direction the guest is looking. Maybe just me but it is confusion who Rick is talking to at times. I realize you would then be looking in the other direction when talking to each other, unless you mirrored your images or the guest's. Not sure what the best solution is, but Rick would be a good person to ask. :) Anyway just found you guys and really loved the pod!
Fascinating ep. I like it when Rick gets real. Also, I watched the OC when I was a teen, so it makes this more of a trip. One question for anyone who wants to duke it out. Olivia said she doesn't allow her children to say they're sorry unless they plan on amending/correcting the mistakes that brought on the sorry in the first place. I'm Canadian, so I'm well versed in sorry's, so what about remorse and guilt? Is it bad to have a heart and apologize for something you feel bad about....even if you might not have the tools at that time to fix the mistake? I think you can be genuine but still repeat mistakes. You're alienating people by not getting that.
Going through therapy myself, I think it may be more the point that feeling guilt and shame without changing anything is a closed loop. Yes you are correct, shame and guilt are signifiers and directional, they help orient your morality. It does no good to keep feeling shame and guilt, and keep repeating. I say this as someone who 'wants' or 'deserves' to feel shame and guilt from my actions, my general being. But something has to change - either me feeling the shame and guilt, or the actions that cause it. Is how I'm currently trying to frame it. So I would say you aren't wrong and it's a lovely description of the utility of shame and guilt, but it's one part of the equation as it were.
@@joedonovan5875 Interesting. I just think it's better to show you care (without action) than to be indifferent. Interesting perspective, though. I've never been to therapy (I should go), but I like the breakdown here. It resonates.
@@thewalkingdunning-krugeref9664 I would agree that it's ultimately better than someone showing no remorse, or displaying ignorance. I think it just ultimately wears thin over time, for all involved - the giver and reciever. My partner whilst loving me deeply, has drawn hard lines about repeated behaviours regardless of the apologies. However, she would always love me from afar and sympathise from afar, she would just have to end it, because for her it would result in her sadness, lack of achievement in life etc. To use a personal example. And god bless her for hanging on so far.
Good gravy. I just typed out a response and lost the whole thing by mistake. That was a long one with bad analogies and some levity, but I'll keep this one short. I don't think this works as well with children. Adults, you can only give so much rope, but while raising a child I think that message (although well intended) can breed little tyrants. "We don't say sorry in this house" finds its way outside and now you lack self-awareness. I don't think "We don't say sorry unless you mean it, and can back it up with immediate action, blah blah blah" is good for a kid. It's counter-intuitive, but the more comfortable they feel to apologize the more likely they are to improve/grow. "We don't say sorry unless we can back it up with action" just scrambles them, I think.
12:17 Pet Semetary was already scary but Zelda is the part that sticks with me today! It’s the mom’s flashbacks of her trauma with her sister who has spinal meningitis and they make it pretty graphic! The Exorcist ruined my life for a long time - I still could NEVER watch it alone but it’s a cinematic masterpiece so every couple halloweens I’ll be brave
Great podcast. I just saw a thing that said kids are afraid of monsters because during the era of early humans, there were lions and other real monsters that could kill children on the savanna at night. So, the ones who survived were the ones who would wake up and get away and they passed down that trait to modern humans. It's science...
I see Rick i click. Great episode❤. Btw, you have to switch the sides of the host cameras vecause in the room they r sitting opposite to what we see on the screen and it gets confusing to understand whom the guest is looking at from the two.
Rick's OCD isn't nearly as bad as it could be, so I suppose one could have gratitude for that. As long as he keeps inviting people inside & challenging himself it shouldn't get worse. The goal is to make it better. That means living in 'the uncomfortable.' Maybe make different rules gradually. Make those new rules on a day when the sun is shining a bit brighter. When he has a baby one day it's going to be very challenging. I remember Howie Mandel's wife saying that....babies crawling on the floor. But if you want the full life experience (having children), he's just got to throw himself into it. We're all here to grow & learn. This test ain't easy for any of us. Rick has excelled at so much....basketball, comedy, being a good son, but can he master his own mind? That's where the actual universe exists....space....the great beyond.....in our minds. Good luck Rick & good luck to us all!
My wife has a little bit less than Rick’s level of OCD. Just with the home cleanliness and guests. She sees everything as outside stuff and inside stuff, and they cannot mix. If I wear some clothes to work on the lawn, those are now just my dirty work clothes and kept separately from my home clothes and going out clothes. Everyone in the family who comes home from almost anywhere, has to shower before they can relax back into the rest of the house. It makes my kids sometimes not want to go out sometimes because they’re gonna have to take their 2nd or 3rd shower of the day. When we have guests over, she basically sanitizes the house afterwards. It’s tough for us to host family functions and have play dates for our kids at our house. We have a pool and usually only have play dates in the summer so the kids coming over will swim and shower before they play in the house 🤦♂️. We used to fight a lot about it because I thought she was just being extra and needed to chill. If we go somewhere and they have big indoor dogs running around jumping all over the couch and stuff, she has to leave. It’s tough because I think it’s getting worse. We want to get her help to maybe manage it. I love hosting family & friends and letting the kids have their friends over so giving that up has been tough on me.

Love when Rick has an away game
I've seen Rick on plenty of podcasts where people claiming to be comedians just don't get him. This pair connect so well with him.
Rick impressing them by saying the monster has multiple weak spots was phenomenal
This interview was great. Rick Glassman is super dynamic. He always shows up authentic and makes any room better.
