What I like about those helmets is that the glass protection allows you to go full speed without bruising your opponent. Not only that, but you can train throwing elbows to the face of an opponent at full speed as well which I think will benefit practitioners in the long run for self defense purposes.
That’s also what I like about Kudo and Nippon Kenpo Bujutsu. They both utilize Bogu in sparring that allows for pragmatic techniques. So called full contact Karate only goes to body for hand techniques.
well, u can't go full power in sparing tho....cuz the brain's still gonna rattle whether u wear headgear or not. Headgear simply protects against damage to the face.
Kudo is pretty much Kyokushin+judo and this is the result, Kyokushin but with the complete package, I practiced Kyokushin, but I would love to have practice Kudo, too bad it's not many Kudo dojos in the states!
Nice video. I've only tried KUDO for about a month, but i'm really looking forward to actually signing up. I just got a job, was in between, so now I should be able to afford classes.

Nice hand work, was this something that Kudo adapted from western boxing? I only just stumbled upon Kudo today and i have to say, i like the approach to combining the various ranges of striking to actual grappling/takedowns or throws.
Nikolaij Brouiller Well Karate, like many martial arts went through multiple paths of evolution becoming the various styles we see today. Kudo developed from kyokushin karate and incorporated head strikes, grabbing , throwing and submission techniques, morphing into something quite different to Karate, hense the name change to Kudo. I would agree that there is almost no traditional karate left in Kudo. And there is good reason for that.
@@majdikamal1389 first it was combination of kyokushin and judo, then azuma takashi add boxing, muay thai, jujutsu, wrestling and shoot wrestling techniques in kudo
Great stuff, I like it :-) The head gear you guys use, what sort of cost is one of those? I've found some here in Australia, but they only cost about $100AU. Just wondering if it's any good or too cheap. Can't find anything here of a higher price. Thanks, Eli
This video highlights the striking elements of Kudo at a dojo that is very heavily MuayThai influenced. The fighters here compete in both Kudo and MT. But Kudo competition is unique in that it allows for head butts , grabbing gi and striking ,judo throws and submissions.
Man awesome training very similar to Muay Thai intern of pad work and sparring. Just curious is the headgear heavy or just like a regular headguard used for MT, kickboxing etc?
Well, kudo first is the combination of kyokushin karate and judo, then azuma takashi add some muay thai, boxing, wrestling, shoot wrestling techniques in kudo
yu pan Hello, yes there is a simple solution. wiping the inside of the shield with dishwashing soap every time before you use it will stop it from fogging. You can use motorcycle helmet shield anti fog spray too, which is really good but more expensive.
Similar but different. Sanda has big gloves and no head gear or gi to grab. No elbows or head butts. No ground submissions. Some Kudo fighters competed in Sanda competition years ago but the difference in rules made it a very different fighting style.
There is a video called kudo in the cage, or something to that affect. In which a couple of kudoka have a match as a demonstration during some mma event. And, While it's a good concept, and both fighters did their best, they were both white belts, and I think the crowd thought it was kind of a joke. Rather unfortunate really. They really weren't terrible, but they were still barely even beginners, and to be fighting right in between pro, not sure at what level though, mma fights made them look even worse. It's rather unfortunate. I just thought of it, because I was thinking how much different an opinion it could have given the crowd if there had been two black belts like these guys instead.
Gess Hugh Yeah some people who have never seen Kudo before, see the head gear and start making fun of it. ”Astronaughts doing mma ”etc. But high level Kudo competition can be very exciting to watch. And its just a great alternative amatuer format of mma for people with careers who want to learn and compete in a practical mma style, but aren't interested in turning pro. Lets face it, its only a tiny percentage of mma fighters who are able to make a decent living from fighting. Most of them are broke and put themselves at risk of serious injury. If you are successful in kudo you can always turn pro anyway. So I think its a smart choice.
I definitely consider it a better amateur sport. MMA is a pretty bad amateur sport. Good pro sport, but too much damage for amateurs. I also like the stand up oriented rule set. I prefer striking, so it's more fun for me. But you still get to deal with all the grappling and throws. The head gear is an up and down. It's not that big a problem for me, since I prefer to fight from the out side, and use infighting just to get some distance back, but I see a lot of in fighters who tend to drop their hands. And my instructor actually has one of the cooler styles I've seen, great head movement, but a big focus on moving the whole upper body, not so much pure head head movement. Like a combo of boxing a karate. But watching him fight with the helmet on, he takes a lot of little glancing blows that wouldn't have touched him without the head gear. It's really not great for movement heavy inside fighters. It's not such a problem if you keep a high tight guard though, or a lot of distance.
No there are no kata. There had been talk of developing some but to be honest, I don’t think it’s necessary. We drill striking, clinching, throws and ground grappling. It’s a lot. Not to mention all the pad work, sparring and conditioning. There is only so much time available. It wouldn’t be possible for me to include kata in my group training sessions.
My teacher in this video trained and fought in both MuayThai and Kudo. This video focuses on the striking practice, which is indeed heavily Muay Thai influenced at this dojo.
