The worst part is that this is actually based on a true story. About a month before this part of the manga was written, there was a highly publicized event where a young female entertainer commited suicide after getting canceled online following her appearance on a reality TV show. Unfortunately, that entertainer was not as lucky as Akane who was saved by someone. It makes me sad when l know events like these are common in this era of advanced technology.

It just goes to show how good Aka is at putting the finger on the pulse of social media, the entertainment industry, and the good and especially bad of the two. Showing that with real life tragedy can be a learning point for viewers and he can seamlessly put in real events into the story without batting an eye.
It's important to realize how Aqua has been keeping mental tabs on everyone. He's been watching Akane struggle. I don't know if he thought it'd get that bad. But remember that he's a fully grown adult in a teenage body. And a doctor at that. It's fortunate that he's quite attuned to this kind of stuff, it's not unusual for him to suspect something.
13:57 One Rude / Hate comment literally could destroy someone's confidency for sure.. That's why we gotta have a ball of steel when facing people online, heck even that much is not enough. I am glad that you got a good community on you Alana.
14:05 and that is why I abide by a tip that one of my favorite streamers shared: keep a tab of all the nicest comments you get, so when you feel down because of a rude one you can always have those that can cheer you up
Something I noticed is how caring Aqua is. From back when he was a doctor and his interactions with his patients, thru now with trying to protect Ruby and keeping tabs on his coworkers (which like you said is prolly how he found her), I think it really shows how much he genuinely cares for other people and I really like that aspect of his character.
Poor Akane, God I felt so bad for her, and the sickening thing is that there are people who will do things as disgusting as what this episode showed. Akane must be protected from the parasites that is humanity at all costs!!!
Online world is very bad, people just insult eachother without knowing the actual story. I really felt bad for Akane, because similar incidents happened in real life as well. I heard her character is based on a real life japanese idol but this type of cyberbullying happened with a celebrity in my country as well and later she found dead in her room, the body was hanging from a ceiling fan.
For those who wanna know, this episode/sequence was a reference to Kimura Hana’s suicide a few years ago after being cyberbullied on her social medias (mostly death threats) due to terrace house (a reality show) after a scripted scene.
This episode was really hard to watch, but also absolutely hit the nail on such a dark subject. especially as reading other comments this was based on true events. So sad. But I really appreciate not just anime's but most shows when they are willing to breach the subjects that people dont want to know or talk about to raise more awareness. This was a masterful episode in raw story telling.
After rewatching this episode. Yeah i agree everything u said. It's sad. I know this was 2 months ago cos i found u on Bocchi the Rock (my fave anime) but i wanna leave a genuinely good comment for u. I love your channel! I really enjoy watching those anime with u and your reactions. Many more to come and i'll be there to watch it! Have a nice day Alana.
i don't know if this anime has manga or like original anime who did't have manga or ln but i always pay attention to every single detail in every anime that i watch, so the person responsible for the yuki incident is yuki herself, sounds crazy? let me explain, 1. in episode 5 ruby say to aqua that she recommend her(yuki) because she is a nice girl, then aqua said "you are not good at judging people" 2. in this episode 5 yuki say to aqua that she is .... and that was not yuki's fact, she lie, but it become fact if that refer to akane. 3. in this episode what yuki put on Akane's nails (on the index finger to be exact) is glass and it's been proven several times, at 13:30 yuki said she won't let it happen this line is the strong fact that prove that also you can clearly see the glass shining and in 13:36 yuki's evil smirk showed and we can exactly see that it is a glass even yuki took that glass with tweezers because she knows if she took it with her finger, her finger will be injured 4. in this episode at 14:28 we can clearly see that the wound is caused by the glass that yuki put on akane's index finger nail and i think the reason for color changed is to hide it. 5. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the netizens, especially here, suspects that comment at 22:10 is Yuki's comment, i don't know it is true or not because i can't see her as a nice girl anymore not even bad girl.
12:00 maybe i assumed Aqua knows from their group chat when Akane said want to buy food outside and nobu said there's typhoon on the outside. Aqua maybe knows Akane struggles tho, that's why he searched for her(?)
The symbolism scattered around in this episode is crazy. Almost all the contrast between light-and dark in the scene "slashed" across her. The moment i saw them, i know this episode won't end well. Thank god Aqua was there.
i feel like the craziest part of this episode is despite I myself, not relating that much to the subject it was still able to just get me in the feels :(
Akane's situation is based on a true story centering around a real celebrity in Japan. Sadly, the real person, Hana Kimura, didn't have anyone who would save her like that.
Even after the first episode's incredibly dark ending, the show still managed to disarm people enough with some generally lighthearted story telling to completely catch us off guard with this episode. As much as I enjoy the reactions to this show, the reactions to this episode are almost harder to watch due to how close to home this episode hits for some people.
The "focus on the good" thing is so hard to do, even for someone who barely has any online presence like me. One little drip drop of sewage could very well stain my mood for a day. Nothing compared to the disgusting smudge of my first relationship that lingers in the back of mind whenever I watch anything romance-related though. And it's been 20 years too, so I have the sinking feeling it's going to stay with this little snowflake till the day he melts. That aside, the I loved the bit where they left the dishes for Aqua to do as punishment 😂
I should say this, and I've been saying this, and those who are most vulnerable absolutely need to hear this: When people get flamed on the internet, it might seem like a huge number of people gathered together to shit all over you, but the reality is it's a very small minority of people who are either immature kids or adults with dysfunctional personalities that are spamming their garbage all over the place because they feel like they're doing something good when they see seemingly so many other people doing the same thing. They are on a bandwagon. The majority of people don't even comment about the flaming when they see it happen, or they might put down a comment here or there. But the most outraged people have far more presence on the internet than those who don't feel strongly about the issue. If you get flamed, keep in mind it's a very small number of screwed up people that are doing the flaming, and the majority just don't register that they should say something. Though I will say, at least in RUclips and CrunchyRoll comments sections, I do see a lot more people lately saying things along the lines of "I see a lot of people saying harsh thing x, but that's wrong because y, z, and w." These comments then get launched to the top of the top comments list via likes, making it almost impossible to find the original negative comments that are actually being called out (newest comments first tends to show more of the negative comments, naturally). Now, unfortunately, sometimes the crazies don't just have a high social media presence. Oshi no Ko talked about how idols can't have boyfriends or, god forbid, children, because their careers would essentially end on the spot due to outrage. The problem there is that the most dysfunctional, delusional, prone to outrage fans of idols are also the people who spend the most on exclusive events, merch, etc. That means that despite being a small minority of fans, the crazies that demand their idols remain single are responsible for a disproportionately large chunk of their idol's revenue. Add on the fact that profit margins are generally pretty slim for the vast majority of idols, and you find that angering these most "loyal" fans by doing things like dating will immediately drop an idol into the red. And recovering from that is basically impossible, you may as well retire on the spot if that happens to you. Having said that, I don't know what might happen if an idol tried to start their career having a boyfriend already, or declaring the intent to date others. There would be no outrage because there's no super fans to be outraged to begin with. But could such an idol drum up enough support to make profits while having such an image? We do have vtubers who talk about taking fat dumps and dating, after all. Actually, I think for all of these types, idols, vtubers, youtubers, streamers, etc., making any change to the content they provide is more than likely to dent their viewership, as those who grew accustomed to a certain kind of content lose interest faster than new viewers gain interest in the new content. It's very difficult to change what content you create and not lose big time. I kind of went off on a tangent there. Point is, there aren't actually that many bad people on the internet, but sometimes those bad people can have disproportionately high influence on others, so the best thing you can do is focus on the bigger picture, and not focus on hating humanity.
It got me. It really got me very upset. By hearing other peoples voices makes me want them to stop talking and denying what they said to Akane. I don't want Akane to die like Ai from the first episode.
It's a very harsh reality that the online world is so filled with malice. It feels like anonymity reveals a persons hidden darkness, the part that's constantly repressed to fit in society. It also reveals the lack of empathy that people have cultivated. It's like everyone has shitty lives and I get it, but the fact that they will use someone else as a scapegoat, and can even ruin their lives without a care for the consequences of their cruelty. It's not ok. We need the phantom thiefs of hearts.
This episode was really really hard to watch cause it was so real... people can be so cruel and not care at all about how it effects people.. this hurt a lot.. but was a great episode..
In my opinion episode 1 and episode 6 are contenders for episode of the year, oshi no ko has peak storytelling, the only anime I see better is vinland saga, that's it😊
This was definitely the darkest moment for Akane....though there's a reason she's called best girl by manga readers. And yes, this episode is a tribute to Hana Kimura (RIP).
I saw it a mile away and wanted to think that they won't even try. But then I remembered what happened the first episode. I was like, yeah, they're doing it.
I was so annoyed with the comments in this episode ~ the internet just assumes they know you even though they never interacted with you personally before ~ what’s worst is that people that do know Akane conformed to the negative comments and said such untruthful things about her ~
I agree with the other.commenters about Aqua. In that past life, he was a friggin doctor AND he was obessed and knowledgeable about an idol. When Akane wound up in this position, I gotta think "Mr Adult in The Room Aqua" would immediately considered that one of his coworkers, a FUCKING TEENAGER, would be getting torn to pieces, all alone. He acts all aloof and focused on his goals, but he was once one of THE professions that was purely to make other people's lives better. I think he would have kept an eye on her from day one. Now....how was he behind her at that exact moment.....there's no way this brilliant auther wouldn't have a valid, realistic explanation, right?!?
The problem is eventhough the issue has been resolved between them, the audience didn't know cause the production wanted the drama. The cast members also can't say anything to defend cause they wanted to keep kayfabe and avoid spoiler as part of their contract. Its very sad such thing can't be resolved easily
I remember something similar time ago. an anime called darling in the franxx had a episode where a girl call Ichigo confessed to MC and all fandom hate the way she did so they did harassment to the seiyuu (voice actress) and director through Twitter so massive and toxic was they have to leave all social media just for an anime I can't believe how cowards and selfish can people be to do that
I can't those that oversimplified this problem by saying the victim should just stop looking online comments or stay away from social media. It just shows how lack of understanding towards mental health issues. Depression is not something that can be turn off in a click nor just gone the moment your stay away from the source of it. It is like a ghost that keep haunting you no matter how hard you try to get rid of it. The dark thoughts will always be on your mind beckoning you to keep drowning in it. Thats why alot cases when victim commit suicide, their family and friends have no idea why they do so.
I saw both Akane's attempt (though I had no idea how she'd do it) and Aqua's saving her coming. That said, I still loved this episode, and wouldn't use the word "predictable". Social media, and people who run their mouths anonymously about people and situations they don't know anything about are just a sad part of modern life. Akane is a sweet character. The personality traits that make her endearing are what made her an easy target. She's a bit timid and unsure of herself, but she wants to make everyone happy. That's just blood in the water for people who are no better than, and often infinitely worse, than the things they say about others.
Went from last episode with a dancing bird man in speedo to this depression episode. Goes to show you how this series can catch you off guard sometimes.
I get the value of life in this episode, if we do something wrong maybe the people around us will forgive, but not necessarily netizens on the internet
While it already has been stated a couple times that its based on a real story, its also happening right now with alot of internet personas & celebreties. The vtuber pikamee or Henya, which she redebuted as, is just one example. Imagine you see your name in the twitter trends just to find out they are mostly cancel tweets...
Like even if they watch this im sure most the people who do this online dont really care at all but heres to hoping that if theres 10,000 of them outhere and theres atleast 1 who would reflect. Just people being insecure about themselves
These haters are too ugly to see. Not even close to knowing the person they are so willing to bully online, they define that person entirely based on the single accident and depict them as the villain in their selfish heart and happily torture her without consequences. The internet and social media perfectly enabled this type of people. Haters be posting false info and hate comments everywhere, other randoms will be swayed by those comments too. The negativity spreading like wildfire. Meanwhile Akane is too fair and square and hard working to overlook these hostile comments and let it all come crushing down on her along with her own guilt. It's really hurts to watch her falling down this spiral of depression, whilst her mother, oblivious to all of this, came close to losing her forever.
As others will note, the ideas here and the theme of this episode aren't theoretical: it happened. Hana Kimura committed suicide after enduring an ongoing hate campaign in the wake of *showrunner-directed* drama on the reality show Terrace House.
Just quickly before I comment: As a reaction channel, please don't push yourself to talk if you're not comfortable. Please make sure you're good before feeling the 'work ethic' of the channel. But also ignore me if it's not that deep :) Seeing the one negative amongst all the good is a part our psychology. You don't remember the good because it doesn't threaten your life, or yourself. You remember the bad because our brains are developed to survive - that's why it's so hard to focus on the good. You should focus on the good, but it's not always possible. In a study about online presence, researchers have found that overwhelming hate leads to 50% of people having suicidal ideation. It's the no.1 highest chance for suicide globally and it trumps all other likely causes by 5-10 times. To say that you can't be damaged as an online entity is not an understatement. My heart goes out to anyone who has to deal with any form of negative hate whether it's grounded in truth or an outright misconception. Stay safe all, remember talking and helplines are always available - you need only google them.
Seriously to anybody going through this just turn off social media and don't turn it back on you'll be much better off mentally if it gets to you. Save yourself to mental stress and potential suicidal thoughts
You can't expect anyone that was in that position have that kind of mindset like you do. Depression is not like something that can be turn off like lights. If that easy, we won't see those suicide cases happened right? Best be just have empathy for them and try to help them go through the dark time.
@@teddyyo8146 I'm not expecting anybody to have a mindset like me my mindset would be to not care about what anybody says I'm giving advice to cut off from social media so you aren't faced with that negativity anymore. Giving advice isn't telling them to have your mindset or lacking empathy and being there for that individual. The worst thing to do is make somebody going through this to feel powerless and cutting off social media is showing them they have power
Its the horrible reality of the internet where people judge an entire person's personality and worth from a snippet of their life.... like how can u conclude a person's worth and personality based off of something that wouldn't even make up 1/1000th of their actual time on this earth

16:24 - be nice to people -online- everywhere (but only to a certain extent of course) :D
Poor Akane, God I felt so bad for her, and the sickening thing is that there are people who will do things as disgusting as what this episode showed. Akane must be protected from the parasites that is humanity at all costs!!!
Thank you Alana for making these videos. They make me so happy. I appreciate what you do.
This episode broke me 😭
I really enjoy your reactions and commentary. You’re my favorite anime reaction channel for sure
No. Reporting for misinformation.
I’m the same way, I can hold my self together as long as I don’t talk about it, but as soon as I try to explain my feelings the water works begin😂
Have a nice day Alana.
i don't know if this anime has manga or like original anime who did't have manga or ln but i always pay attention to every single detail in every anime that i watch, so the person responsible for the yuki incident is yuki herself, sounds crazy? let me explain,
1. in episode 5 ruby say to aqua that she recommend her(yuki) because she is a nice girl, then aqua said "you are not good at judging people"
2. in this episode 5 yuki say to aqua that she is .... and that was not yuki's fact, she lie, but it become fact if that refer to akane.
3. in this episode what yuki put on Akane's nails (on the index finger to be exact) is glass and it's been proven several times, at 13:30 yuki said she won't let it happen this line is the strong fact that prove that also you can clearly see the glass shining and in 13:36 yuki's evil smirk showed and we can exactly see that it is a glass even yuki took that glass with tweezers because she knows if she took it with her finger, her finger will be injured
4. in this episode at 14:28 we can clearly see that the wound is caused by the glass that yuki put on akane's index finger nail and i think the reason for color changed is to hide it.
5. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the netizens, especially here, suspects that comment at 22:10 is Yuki's comment, i don't know it is true or not because i can't see her as a nice girl anymore not even bad girl.
Aqua was really into that stalker role xd
"Cause I feel that's where the laughs are gonna be". Ooooooh boy, here we go.
6:57 I mean she did leave a mark
12:00 maybe i assumed Aqua knows from their group chat when Akane said want to buy food outside and nobu said there's typhoon on the outside. Aqua maybe knows Akane struggles tho, that's why he searched for her(?)
Let's not forget he's a doctor, maybe he see that coming 👀
The symbolism scattered around in this episode is crazy. Almost all the contrast between light-and dark in the scene "slashed" across her. The moment i saw them, i know this episode won't end well. Thank god Aqua was there.
i feel like the craziest part of this episode is despite I myself, not relating that much to the subject it was still able to just get me in the feels :(
she said she thinks the reality tv show is where the laughs are gonna be...
That's just fu-ed up 💀
Akane's situation is based on a true story centering around a real celebrity in Japan. Sadly, the real person, Hana Kimura, didn't have anyone who would save her like that.
Misinformation. Reported.
such a heavy episode. I wish more shows portrayed real life problems like this
Even after the first episode's incredibly dark ending, the show still managed to disarm people enough with some generally lighthearted story telling to completely catch us off guard with this episode.
I should say this, and I've been saying this, and those who are most vulnerable absolutely need to hear this:
When people get flamed on the internet, it might seem like a huge number of people gathered together to shit all over you, but the reality is it's a very small minority of people who are either immature kids or adults with dysfunctional personalities that are spamming their garbage all over the place because they feel like they're doing something good when they see seemingly so many other people doing the same thing.
We need the phantom thiefs of hearts.
from now best girl akane will grow stronger & stronger ❤
This episode was really really hard to watch cause it was so real... people can be so cruel and not care at all about how it effects people.. this hurt a lot.. but was a great episode..
In my opinion episode 1 and episode 6 are contenders for episode of the year, oshi no ko has peak storytelling, the only anime I see better is vinland saga, that's it😊
I love Mondays and Wednesdays ❤
Thank u ❤ Finally start one of the best moment best girl akane aqua best couple time ❤
This was definitely the darkest moment for Akane....though there's a reason she's called best girl by manga readers. And yes, this episode is a tribute to Hana Kimura (RIP).
Love your reaction ! Thanks for your thoughts at the end !
And the feels from episode 1 have come back around for a second gut punch.
I saw it a mile away and wanted to think that they won't even try. But then I remembered what happened the first episode. I was like, yeah, they're doing it.
Oh wow, I just realized "34 seconds ago"
I always enjoy your videos Alana. 👍
12:00 "How did he find her" Well, he's a stalker after all
I was so annoyed with the comments in this episode ~ the internet just assumes they know you even though they never interacted with you personally before ~ what’s worst is that people that do know Akane conformed to the negative comments and said such untruthful things about her ~
I agree with the other.commenters about Aqua.
Its very sad such thing can't be resolved easily
my heart dropped to the ground i swear
0:28 well that aged like milk
I remember something similar time ago. an anime called darling in the franxx had a episode where a girl call Ichigo confessed to MC and all fandom hate the way she did so they did harassment to the seiyuu (voice actress) and director through Twitter so massive and toxic was they have to leave all social media just for an anime I can't believe how cowards and selfish can people be to do that
from after this episode, you'll see the rebirth of the best girl
I can't those that oversimplified this problem by saying the victim should just stop looking online comments or stay away from social media. It just shows how lack of understanding towards mental health issues. Depression is not something that can be turn off in a click nor just gone the moment your stay away from the source of it. It is like a ghost that keep haunting you no matter how hard you try to get rid of it. The dark thoughts will always be on your mind beckoning you to keep drowning in it. Thats why alot cases when victim commit suicide, their family and friends have no idea why they do so.
Aqua: finally I save a life.
You should give 86 a watch
Oh god how I love Akane...
the fact this happened in real life is heartbreaking
This episode reminds me of how internet made light of Etika's situation. Especially keemstar and his fans.
man im just screaming fuck last minute lol
I saw both Akane's attempt (though I had no idea how she'd do it) and Aqua's saving her coming. That said, I still loved this episode, and wouldn't use the word "predictable". Social media, and people who run their mouths anonymously about people and situations they don't know anything about are just a sad part of modern life.
Akane is a sweet character. The personality traits that make her endearing are what made her an easy target. She's a bit timid and unsure of herself, but she wants to make everyone happy. That's just blood in the water for people who are no better than, and often infinitely worse, than the things they say about others.
so i was in Japan a few weeks ago.. wanna know which streaming service had this show? Disney Freaking Plus
Went from last episode with a dancing bird man in speedo to this depression episode. Goes to show you how this series can catch you off guard sometimes.
It was the first time in years an anime made me cry
I get the value of life in this episode, if we do something wrong maybe the people around us will forgive, but not necessarily netizens on the internet
While it already has been stated a couple times that its based on a real story, its also happening right now with alot of internet personas & celebreties.
The vtuber pikamee or Henya, which she redebuted as, is just one example.
Imagine you see your name in the twitter trends just to find out they are mostly cancel tweets...
This episode was so raw in showing how disgusting the internet can be and how it effects people.
The akane episode yes yes very sad, on another note, 9:50 HIMEKAWA!
Kana really helped Ruby dodge a bullet there. Who knows what would happen if she actually tweeted something
Alana lookin fine as hell as always
As others will note, the ideas here and the theme of this episode aren't theoretical: it happened. Hana Kimura committed suicide after enduring an ongoing hate campaign in the wake of *showrunner-directed* drama on the reality show Terrace House.
Just quickly before I comment: As a reaction channel, please don't push yourself to talk if you're not comfortable. Please make sure you're good before feeling the 'work ethic' of the channel. But also ignore me if it's not that deep :)
Seeing the one negative amongst all the good is a part our psychology.
YESS
In fact, there are data that there are more than 40 people in the world who have committed suicide due to romance reality shows.
Best girl from kana -> akane
Its the horrible reality of the internet where people judge an entire person's personality and worth from a snippet of their life.... like how can u conclude a person's worth and personality based off of something that wouldn't even make up 1/1000th of their actual time on this earth
Omg, you're so cute with that style😳
5:42 what will be there about you-
