Tommy Emmanuel is one of the greatest guitarists ever. And he's such an amazing human being, always promoting and supporting young guitarists. He also has a charity called Guitars for Vets to raise money for - guitars for vets. He's an international treasure. Sebs, please react to one of his videos with his brother Phil or young Mike Dawes.
Want to see Tommy Emmanuel as his most genius???? I've seen him live!!! Watch him do the Beatles Medley, of Lady Madonna/ Day tripper --- dude!!!! and i can't stress this enough... he's one man, playing 3 different parts: Bass, Melody, and Rhythm all at once.... IT'S NUTS!! Seriously... MUST WATCH...
I saw him live last year, truly amazing, fun and sooo excellent
I second this
I’ll echo the recommendations for Tommy playing Classical Gas. Incredible performance
That’s what you get when you get generous and collaborative performers playing together. Magic.
this song lends itself to inventing and playing with leads. Tommy Emmanuel is so freaking good on the acoustic at every level.
Tommy is my favorite guitar player. But all 3 of these guys are great. Thanks for sharing.
Tommy is great. Check out "Tommy Emmanuel performs Beatles Medley on DittyTV" He ends his medley with his cover of Mason Williams Classical Gas. Then check his collaborations with the young great Mike Dawes. Another great.
Tommy Emmanuel 'Certified Guitar Picker'. A title bestowed by Chet Atkins. Tommy and his brother Phil were amazing. ☮💜🎶
You have finally discovered what (in my opinion) is the world's greatest acoustic guitar player. Have seen him five times in concert. If you want to hear his incredible innovation listen to his "Initiation" from Centerstage. It will be nothing like anything you have ever heard on a guitar before. Also, for an unbelievable jazz guitarist try Joscho Stephans version of the classic Hendrix song "Hey Joe". Next to Tommy he is my favorite.
Tommy Emmanuel is an absolute legend. He creates new music that hasn’t been played before.
Check out Tommy’s version of Classical Gas
Now you are getting into the really talented players. Tommy Emmanuel has been an Aussie staple for decades. One of the best in the world.
guitarist and band telepathy is an awesome thing. The power of the all mighty groove.
@mikefetterman6782 you cannot be "one of the best..." The best stands alone. If indeed the best exists in this sort of thing. But yes TE is among the better IMO, and he excelled here, even with some of his runs out of sight of the camera.
Talent in spades as they say. Real musicians playing real instruments....What a concept!
This is a truly stunning interpretation of Mark Knopfler's masterpiece, by three super-talented guitarists
Oh, YES! Was lucky enough seeing Tommy Emanuel a few yrs back at LSU’s Union Theater, where the seats only numbered about 2,000. He’s purely UNBELIEVABLE!!
Great, great, and great! If you really want to see Tommy you need to check out 'Initiation' - you will NOT believe your ears nor your eyes. Then check out his version of 'Classical Gas' - truly AMAZING!
As others have said, you should listen to Tommy's Classical Gas. Also Initiation, this one is about Initiation ceremonies of Australian aborigines. Tommy uses the whole guitar, not just the strings. The sounds you hear are Australian outback sounds like you have never before heard emanating from an acoustic guitar. Astounding !!!
Having the complete honor to have shared some playing time with all three and Tommy is my all time favorite, he is the guitar, he becomes one with the instrument and does it all by heart since he cannot read music and he doesn’t let that slow him down. Too cool.
Tommy Emmanuel and Mark Knopfler both list Chet Atkins as primary influences on their desire to play and style of play. Watch Tommy and Chet playing together. Tommy looks like a little kid watching his favourite sports idol. Heartwarming.
Tommy Emmanuel and Gabriella Quevedo do a great duet of Classical Gas
It amazes me that there are people that do not know of Tommy Emmanuel who has entertained around the world for over 50 years, was named one of five CERTIFIED GUITAR PLAYERS by Chet Atkins. This is a true display how real talent of very different styles can get together and honor another genius guitarist ( Mark Knophler)! Just for laughs, did anyone notice Steven Stills playing percussion with them?
Cool video, Tommy Emanuel is totally awesome. I’m 70 started playing when I was 12 mostly self taught. I played acoustics to learn on my theory was always if I can play it on an acoustic, I can really make it insane on electrics with effect and distortion.
:D Only experts could ever make playing *so* well seem *so* easy to do. :) Beautiful.
In my late teens and early 20's, I kicked around quite a bit with Tommy and his brother Phill Emmanuel. They would both often jam at friends parties with other musicians in my circle joining in. Eventually my life took a different trajectory away from Music into Art & Architecture......But many lovely treasured memories.
you should check out Tommy and Billy Strings playing together !!
Hi Sebs!
When I had to evacuate due to a fire, one of the things I made sure to grab was my old Strat.
If you have an itch for a Strat, only a Strat will scratch it.
I’ve regretted buying many guitars in my life, but my Fender Stratocaster isn’t one of them.
Just do it; you know you want it.
Love your vids,
Juno
It is one of the most beautiful songs made for guitar... legendary solo...
Great pick Roy! Sets love the reaction. For more pr this style check Mark Knofler, the guitarist and singer for Dire Straits playing with Chet "Mr. Guitar" Atkins. They did numerous RUclips videos all worth checking out. I will also echo going down the Tommy Emmanuel rabbit hole. 😊 Enjoy and NEVER quit playing guitar, I have been playing for 50 years and still don't think I am good enough , but I keep on playing.
I have gave this allot of thought and from a skill perspective I think Tommy is the best I have ever seen. I have no idea what his right hand does none what so ever its insane.
During a live concert, Tommy Emmanuel once asked if there were any guitarists in the audience, and somebody shouted back "Not anymore".
Tommy is insane. Want two more? Jorge Strunz and Ardeshir Farah. 2 of the best!
Tommy has several videos on here teaching styles of playing. 💯🔥
So sorry you are feeling puny😢but great reaction🎸‼️. I have been a subscriber since your first Stevie Ray reaction and really enjoy your guitar journey🎸. I have seen the great Tommy twice and he is simply astounding. His love of making music is infectious for sure. Pasting a link of Tommy Emmanuel and Billy Strings doing two songs together at a festival. Talk about having a good time‼️🎶 The senior master and his younger counterpart going to to to and having a blast that can be felt👏🙌. A must see. Feel better soon!
ruclips.net/video/zO8IwPbALK4/видео.htmlsi=TtxiccsM3ZkVKYH2
Feel better! ❤
Just great easy listening. 😃
Try reacting to Tommy Emmanuel playing Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Tommy is known as a One Man Band because he plays his own back up: bass ,rhythm, percussion and lead, all at the same time on the same guitar. He also plays the lead like he is the singer. He can amaze with how fast he can play, but he will tell you it is much harder to masterfully play a Ballard. He can't read or write music, but he has written hundreds of songs by ear. He can tell you what every note and cord is.
Tommy has some amazing music. You would probably like his live version of Guitar Boogie, and Classical Gas, but if you truly want to witness his Genious check out Tommy's song Initiation. Its Tribal bro. About a right of passage from boy to man in an Aboriginal tribe. He demonstrates whats known as Percussion guitar style which he pretty much made famous. There are some great percussion guitarists but Tommy is sinply the best of them all!
3 masters from 3 different continents. Music!
I grew up playing some nylon string and steel string acoustic fingerstyle guitar. Lead guitar single note playing never seemed full enough to me when trying to play songs I liked. Fingerstyle guitar with trying to play lead, bass and harmony at the same time made it seem like you were as close to a one man band. There of course have been some great fingerstyle player out there but the person I discovered recently that has blown my mind is Kent Nishimura. He is a fairly young guy but his covers of well know songs and his smooth technique is amazing. Plus add his percussive drum like tapping of the guitar body adds to the song arrangement. If you check him out I think you will be amazed at what one guy can accomplish on a steel acoustic guitar. Oh and I thought I would add that I am 70 years old and have watched great fingerstyle guitarist dating back to Chet Atkins and on and Kent Nishimura is the best I have seen.
Tommy Emanuel’s classical gas - speachless
Thankyou enjoyed this video
You should listen to Rodrigo y Gabriela, a Mexican acoustic duo. Also check out Tommy Emmanual and Molly Tuttle doing White Freightliner
Tommy is the man 👏
You should watch more Tommy Emmanuel. And Richard Smith. And Joscho Stephan. Watch the Jam Session with Richard Smith and Tommy Emmanuel.
I have 13 guitars so I can't answer your question about which guitar, but I always start with what do you like to play and then what do you do best, like some people are natural finger picking or better on electric. Next, you want a versatile guitar that feels good in your hand when you pick it up. I prefer my semi-hollow body because it feels good, the action is quick and I can hear it well even when not plugged in and I get the mellow sound of an acoustic. If I only had one, that would be my choice.
Unfortunately I don't play the guitar but really loved watching & listening to Tommy, John & Pedro Javier Gonz. Admittedly I adore them! But I have to say that the original from Mark Knopfler just stuns & amazes me so much. Thank you for this video!!
Tommy Emmanuel and Billy Stings together is even better than this to me.
For a great Tommy lesson look up To B or not to B. After you watch that find his Tru Fire lesson for the left hand and find out what it takes to play what sounds like a simple little song. Very entertaining. And for a mind blowing example of improvisation find the original live performance in Colorado in 2006 of "12 Bar Blues in the Key of E." Just make sure you're sitting down.🙂
I have a classical acoustic by Alvarez and I love it.
I could listen to these guys all night long. This makes me want to dust of my old guitar, too.
I've seen Tommy Emmanuel perform at least a dozen 1-hr sets at various festivals and concerts. He never fails to give 110%. There's never any doubt that he's feeling the music in his heart. John Jorgenson is not only a master of the Telecaster. He also plays Django Rheinhardt style on a Selmer style gypsy jazz guitar (he played Django in a movie), not to mention a mean mandolin.
Checkout Tommy doing Classical Gas or the duos he did with Billy Strings... You'll love it.
He's called a "picker" for his style of play. He played for years in little bitty Winfield Kansas at the Walnut Valley Festival. A 52 year bluegrass multistage festival, and national flat picking championship. Many other instruments you've not seen on your channel yet. Third weekend in September. Best thing you could do is check it out!!
Tommy uses fairly standard 12 - 54 strings. He has a custom wound set you can buy too.
Check out Tommy’s version of Classical Gas. Mind blowing.
Tommy does a great TED talk about how he plays his style, and it's a great video..
saw Tommy live, it's an experience you have to witness in person to get the whole impact.
Your very welcome.
Roy
Funny you should comment, “Now I don’t want to play the guitar anymore, dude.” In one of Tommy’s concerts, after one of his songs, he asked whether anyone in the audience played guitar. Someone in the audience famously answered, “Not anymore.”
If you like Elvis and suspicious mind you ought to watch him in Polk salad Annie
Tommy's THE MAN....
You really need to check out Roy Clark, he was on the show Hee Haw, but he was a fantastic guitarist!
Tommy Emmanuel was of the few guitarist ever to be deemed a CGP, Certified Guitar Player by Chet Atkins. Very high praise from the Master himself!
Tommy was a " local " legend at only 6 yo.
Taught himself to play by listening to Chet Atkins on the radio in outback NSW.
Tommy thought Chet was playing everything he heard, he didnt know about drum kits, bass guitars and rhythm guitars.......so he learnt to play everything he heard by himself on just one guitar......leed, rhythm and drums all at the same time.
At 6 yo his father packed the family into the car and they went touring outback Australia as a professional act......until the government caught up to them and made the parents rent a house and send Tommy and Phil to school.
Catch the video of Tommy doing his own extended version of Classical Gas.......the video that looks like a home recording in his living room.
Take note of his opening run to start the performance, but be alert or it will be gone before you realise the video has started.
Tommy will play with anyone.....he often stays back after a performance to chat and play with the guitar students who fill his concerts .
Also The Kings of Strings.......when Tommy and 2 other brilliant accoustic guitarists teamed up as a touring guitar extravaganza.
The world is full of BRILLIANT guitarists, musicians, singers and song writers that we never hear.......because they dont PAY our local radio station or tv channals to be heard.
MAYBE there is a video, but peep: Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin, Paco de Lucia (RIP) Live in San Francisco 1975
Pure acoustic wizardry!!!
Tommy Emmanuel is usually said to be the best guitarist on the plant. I had the great pleasure of meeting him in of all places the middle of Kansas. Such a nice unassuming gentleman. 😅
Total Respect for each other
6:50 to answer your question he actually uses heavier gauge than you think. But his finger strength is crazy. If you watch some of his Old song tutorials on youtube you will see what i mean. He has some crazy finger strength and dexterity
Tommy Emmanuel is amazing. His take on the song Classical Gas is acoustic guitar at its best
Beautiful guitar work - and superb support from the percussionist and bassist. Check out "Mediterranean Sundance" by Al Di Meola and Paco De Lucia - its on Di Meola's "Elegant Gypsy" album. And the best way to listen is on the headphones - one guitar in each ear. Amazing.
Check out Tommy playing Caravan with Joscho Stephan. Mind blowing skill
I love you Roy 👍🇦🇺
Try Richard Smith playing The Entertainer, Tommy Emanual was in awe of him.
Look for Tommy doing 'Classical Gas' a true lesson in playing a guitar!
Check out Tanglewood for a classical guitar. Very high quality for what you pay. That being said, checkout Mike Dawes; he's a Tommy devotee, if you will. He does a great arrangement of VH's Jump.
after watching Tommy Emmanuel I threw my guitar away... after watching him I knew there was no comparison to what ever I tried lol
You need to check out the whole album Saturday Night in San Francisco - Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin, and Paco de Lucia for some amazing guitar playing
Tommy - Classical Gas 😢🤤
If you want to hear something really different look this guy up
He's a aboriginal person that grew up in middle of Australia 🇦🇺 desert area
He blind the guitar was all he could get plays right hand guitar upside down left handed
Also sings in his native tongue such beautiful sound
If you play put a warning up first that it a aboriginal indigenous person who may of past as to do with their religious beliefs
So other indigenous can choose not to watch as they beliefs to watch is taking He's spirit away
Look up Gurrumul -Wiyathul ( live 2008 ) version He's live on stage haunting sound
Myself personally don't follow much of this music
But this is definitely special
Cheers mate get better soon 🦘🇦🇺👍
I looove the Jorgensen work here
All I can say is...The Hellecasters doing The Ghosts of 42nd Street.
I think they just had a guitarism!!! LOL
Please, please, Tommy Emmanuel playing "Classical Gas"!!
Tommy is one of the goats.
Tommy Emmanuel - Classical Gas. There's no other way to go after hearing this one.
If you see Tommy Emanuel coming to play within 300 miles of you GO!
Okay, here we go, here's your 'Bob Ross' school of guitar playing lesson for today... There are no mistakes, there are only lead-ins to better improvisations.
Tommy Emmanuel will be in salt lake feb29/24
Mark Knofler is proud:)
These gentlemen are genius muscians. Some more friends of Tommy's.: Richard Smith ruclips.net/video/RCGGG9piAGY/видео.html Billy Strings ruclips.net/video/LJzz-Nuo-QQ/видео.html . His brother Phil Emmanuel ruclips.net/video/nKfFDB1Md2k/видео.html
Tommy Emmanuel has been doing this better longer and more musically than anyone else on the planet. You can learn a little, but not everything. His brother Phil was equally adept.
Tommy and Phil learned at home, from records, and radio, no video in those days. Not knowing how many guitars were playing, they learned all the parts at once, on one guitar. Sadly Phil has passed away. Tommy is hard on guitars, he sands back some parts etc, to get differing effects. He changes his guitars and gives away older ones. Try listening to his version of classical gas, or initiation.
Thank You Brother for this and just an added not Tommy and Jack are as nice and accessible as they are good at playing, Jack has his website to teach too
Now find Tommy playing with Richard Smith or Joscho Stephen.
please please check out another great australian guitarist john butler ocean. im going to be biased here but if you do please check out Ocean live ar federation square, i was lucky enough to be in the audience when it was recorded,
another guitarist that only uses his fingers,
Don’t matter what gauge of strings when you are committed plus us Aussies are tough bro 😅
Spend hours in a music store trying out different guitars, Tele, Strat, LesPaul, and others feel them, listen to them, one of them will speak to you and you will know!
These guys don't suck but I think the video you meant to watch is called, "Friday Night in San Francisco". Al di Meola, Jon McLaughlin, and paco de Lucia are literally 3 of the greatest guitarists to ever live.
hey if you never ,,,then continu listening to the radio lol
Should check out Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed. Also check mout a guy named Hank Garland.
One of the greatest guitar solos is wood stock Jimmy Hendrix
