Oh jeez, how young you must be to not instantly recognize "Sultans Of Swing" by the iconic Dire Straits :)
My daughter is 26 and know all the 70's and 80's standards as thats what she heard most of her life from her Mum and me. I guess these two were not so lucky.
I was born far after the release of the single; but who has somehow music in the blood must recognize this song in the original from 5 km distance.
Tommy & Phil Emmanuel, absolute legends, first saw them in the Miranda Hotel around 1980 :)
I've seen them at the Sus club.
I have been going to Tommy Emmanuel show since about 2000. He is a complete showman and easily one of the best guitarists on the planet. Very humble and plays with talented people like this all over the world. Thank you for spreading him! More of the world needs to see this man and his versatility.
I could swear those guitars were speaking to me and I'm pretty sure they were saying ... get Pizza :)
The great thing about listening to the best is that they compliment each other and don't overplay while the other is doing his thing.
Love Tommy
tommy started playing at 4 . At 6 he was performing with his family's band . He practiced around 8 hrs a day . His mom supported his guitar playing and would take him for lessons every Thursday . Finally his school principle called him to his office and said he noticed Tommy was absent every
Thursday . Tommy told him he went to guitar lessons . The principle said oh really , I just happened to have one in the office here and told Tommy to play something . Tommy did and afterward the principle asked if Tommy was willing to give lessons
Just letting ya'll know. Tommy can play ALL genres from classic to jazz to even heavy metal and shreds like michael angelo
Tommy and 2 other brilliant European guitarists teamed up and toured as The Kings of Strings.
Tommy mostly did the backing as he always plays the drum, bass and rhythm along with the solo when performing his one man shows.
When Tommy got his turn to solo, then the other 2 would give him backing......
To really spice things up, they would chop and change who was doing what........ I imagine they would have rehearsed a little bit, but at first there was a lot of jamming to learn each other and see how they fit together.
Pedro Javier González of Spain is one of the greatest classical, flamenco style guitarists with Tommy Emmanuel, THE BEST finger-style acoustic guitar players on the planet today...they're just tops. And, the Mark Knopfler, the lead guitarist for Dire Straights is AMAZING on his own and Sultans of Swing is one of Dire Straights most iconic songs.
You never heared Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing ? It’s a classic, 1978. You guys come from planet Mars or what ? 😂😂😂
same lol, weird
Sultins of swing!!
You need to hear Dire Straits , Mark Knopfer really kills it on guitar. Sultans of swing original and in my opinion the best.
he grew up in the outback of Australia , you would really enjoy his piece ' Initiation ' about an Aboriginal ceremony He performs sound effects of the vast outback sounds that start with a didgeridoo effect , awesome !
It's a Dire Straits song - "Sultans of Swing" with Mark Knopfler singing and playing guitar.
Fn awesome
I’ll add to the vote that you really need to watch Dire Straits Sultans of Swing, the inspiration for this.
To really appreciate this you need to first hear the original song “Sultans of Swings” by Dire Straits.
That was amazing! I think it was a Dire Straights song, not 100% sure. I feel ya, when you talked about the playing at a BBQ. i grew up when had party's, bbq's camping, the instruments came out. Camping mostly just guitars, but at home parties, especially when my parents threw them, we had a piano , and Dad played piano, guitar, standup bass, clarinet, trumpet, harmonica and banjo. Friends and relatives played too, so they would get around the piano and grab other instruments and just jam. I had uncles and aunts who sing, it was awesome. Of course, this was always after a few drinks. And we had a huge basement/family room.
I think I have heard this song before ..................
I first saw Tommy in 1979 at Geenfields tavern with the Bush Wackers
Am I wrong in thinking you two missed some things? Sultans of Swing is a Mark Knopfler classic. The original has lyrics, but this here is beyond just cover. Your happiness did it.
Hints of Dimeola, McLaughlin and Delucia live in San Francisco.
Keep these Tommy ones coming! There are a million more out there!
Legends all 3 of them! Specifically check out John Jorgenson Quintet or the Hellecasters if you can just amazing!!!
You guys are so cute. Im subscribing :)
You guys should look up the original for reference. It was their first major hit, and a unique new sound when it came out (in 1978, if memory serves)
Y'all watch this one - Tommy Emmanuel and Billy Strings playing Guitar Boogie together pretty much unrehearsed) and Working Man's Blues - it is not often that Billy, a bluegrass player, meets his match on the guitar - needless to say he is mostly learning from Tommy but the interplay is incredible
the live version of the original by dire straits, from alchemy concert in 1983 or the wembley concert in 1985 is brilliant.
Had that record back in the day forgot about it and sold all my records back in the early 90's. That was a Ripping album, might hunt it down again on cd.
STRAYA 🇭🇲🔥🤘
It must be some kind of crime to h@ve that much fun on stage, the only saving grace is there is some money involved so as to not burst in to laughter.
You should hear Leo Moracchioli and Mary Spender do this!
Yes mister beautiflu Dong des années 1970
A 1980
Hey Wolf HunterZ! Your 2000nest reaction video is coming soon. Maybe you could do something special for it. Maybe a live reaction or something. (Sorry for the bad english, i use google translate.)

Great musicians ! This song I know the melody pretty well ! I think it's from the 80'Z :-) . Maybe Dire Straits ? I don't remember well ! All this videos are on Top as on the musical side than the empathetic side !! Yes definitely Dire Straits !
1978 was the release date of Sultans of Swing, I was about 13 and heard it on my am transistor radio.I used to mix it up with Flash and the Pans Down among the dead men for some reason.
