The Predator was mimicking the soldiers in an attempt to understand his prey and used it to his advantage. The final laugh is Billy’s laugh for dramatic effect. It was a cool design choice and one that continues in the direct sequel, Predator 2. The premise is simple but there’s a lot of clever layers that turned it into the classic action thriller for all time. Still my favourite Arnie film.

Wow, it didn’t dawn on me until now, but I just realized after all these years of seeing this movie (dozens), the self destruct bomb at the end could’ve been to show the other ship (or mother ship) that he failed his “mission.” I guess the mushroom cloud was a signal to the other predators. Some of the things you discussed after the movie had me wondering about it.
The creature effects were done by the legendary Stan Winston, who worked on such classics as Aliens, Terminator 1&2, Jurassic Park, Edward Scissorhands, etc... This film is notable for producing two governors, Arnold & former WWF wrestler Jesse Ventura (Blain). Director John McTiernan also made Die Hard a year later. Predator 2 is a decent watch, but none of the sequels ever matched the original like the first two Alien movies. I highly recommend reacting to the Paul Verhoeven action/sc-fi/satire trilogy: RoboCop (1987), Total Recall (1990), & Starship Troopers (1997).
The scene where they all stand and fire into the jungle after Blain is killed was because of studio interference. The suits sent a memo to McTiernan saying they wanted more action and more gunfire in the movie... But McTiernan wanted the movie to edge more toward horror than just being an action movie... but the suits persisted in their demands for more gunfire. So McTiernan's reaction was "Ok, they want gunfire, I'll give them 30 seconds of endless gunfire and then the rest of the movie can be *my* movie"
There's a whole back story about the species of predators, they are an alien race that's all about trophy hunting, they have actually been coming to earth for literally millions of years, there's a graphic novel about them where they hunted dinosaurs and other animals. They even created the xenomorphs, the species from Alien and Aliens, to be a better challenge for hunting. I think someone else commented on it but the predator in this movie was a young and inexperienced predator, basically he was a novice and was in the jungle to prove himself and gain experience, guess he didn't expect to encounter Arnold lol. If you watch Predator 2 with Danny Glover an older and more experienced predator is hunting gang members and cops in LA, and at the end of the movie Danny Glover encounters a whole ship full of them
The laughter is Billy's laugh he's mimicking. The predator mimicks but also understands what it's saying... he was very intrigued with Billy's laugh. I also love how the Yautja repeats Dutchs line "What the hell are you?"... cause indeed...why do you kill your own kind...?
I can't explain how much this movie means to my family. I grew up watching it every single day. We even recorded it and analyzed it frame by frame 😂 loved your reaction♡
I like to think that the laugh at the end was a mixture of the Predator acknowledging that Dutch defeating him, the predator preventing humanity from stealing his technology, and the predator moking Dutch because he fought to hard to beat and kill the predator and walked away with no trophy or anything. Because you can imagine what rage a predator/hunter would feel if they fought so hard for the perfect pray only for it to blow up and leave him with nothing.
Predator laughter in the end was actually Billy's laugh. Remember, the Predator mimics humans and taunts them using their own words. Words like "over here" and "what the hell are you?" Etc. -OG
A lot of people think it's a continuity error that Arnold is only grazed when everyone is killed by the plasma bolt, but if you watch closely you can see it actually hits his rifle (blowing it in half) taking the brunt of the shot.
The predator comes from a race called the yautja. They value honourable hunting and collecting trophies of worthy prey - the more dangerous, the better. If you watch Predator 2, there's a scene where the predator doesn't kill a police officer even though she's armed, because she's pregnant. I recommend Predator 2 - it answers a few questions.
I don't think there's been a better Predator than Kevin Peter Hall. Not only was he such a tall guy, but mostly it was the way he moved. After all the ones that came after, he was the most frightening and believable. RIP KEVIN PETER HALL. 🙏🏾
I thought I'd share: 1) Duke's rambling the lyrics to the song played before they left the chopper. 2) It's horror but in reality it's more psychological horror (for the viewer to put themselves in the shoes of the best of the best & become the prey) 3) I think the predator was "trimming fat" of the group until he got to the best of the best & a worthy opponent. Some deaths seem to have happened simply to let the prey know of it's existence on purpose & others like Blain (Jesse Ventura's character) were taken out for being too risky to be left alive any longer. Its also posdible it was because he carried heavy equipment rendering him a slow & easy target (essentially saying this trait/features makes him weak not strong) 4) The predator may be taking each victim out in different hunting styles leaving 1 on 1 to the end. Perhaps it's a ritualistic hunting challenge or maybe its an initiation hunt or maybe just a vacation hunt lol. 5) I've heard it theorized before that each victim died accordingly due to something they said or did. A) Hawkins gets penatrated by blades due to him "chasing the girl" & made adult jokes about reproduction. B) Blain "didn't have time to bleed" (laser/plasma shot cauterized wound leaving little to no blood). C) Poncho said to Blain after his "bleed" statement "huh, do you have time to duck?" & he himself doesn't duck a swinging log that effectively takes him out of the fight. D) Mac is clean shaven/close up headshot. He has alot to disect due to his vendetta against the predator killing Blain his friend. E) Dillion got his pencil pushing arm shot off. Died redeeming his character flaws. F) Fearless Billy stopped fearing the predator and faced him head on (faced his fears) That's all I can think of/my 2 cents. Great reaction!
The trap Arnold set for the Predator to be under the dead fall was very cool. He made those spikes a little long so the Predator would see them and go around to the other end where he had his real trap.
Also yes, as you could see along the movie, he was recording various bits of speech and sounds, that he used some of later on in the movie to lure or taunt people.
This movie is basically The Most Dangerous Game, but with an alien twist. He is on a safari, and has a very specific honor code, you learn lot more about that in the sequel.
The roll of the Predator was played by actor Kevin Peter Hall, who stood 7ft 2in. You should treat yourself to reacting to his movie Harry and the Hendersons. You will have yourselves a good time. Kevin met and married his while guest starring on the tv hit sitcom 227. He and his wife Alaina Reed Hall wed both on the show and in real life. He unfortunately died in 1991 from AIDS related pneumonia after receiving a contaminated blood transfusion following a car accident. He was an endearing person. RIP Kevin Peter Hall.
Just like "female empowerment" with Ripley in Alien, Predator didn't toot its own horn regarding its cast's diversity. Two Black men, a Native American, a Latino, even a Latina whose character traits don't hinge on their ethnicity. Also, the screenwriter (the bespectacled 'funny man') doesn't fall into the trap of offing certain characters first. Add to that constant tension and the Home Alone on Steroids (literally) feel towards the end and you got yourself a winner.
The predator comics go really in depth in predator society. The more trophies and dangerous your prey you have the higher your status in their society. Predator 2 answers a lot of this too it also ties in the Aliens franchise.
Many conclusions can be drawn from the final part. The final showdown is like going back to the caves. The primitive man was smarter than he looks, he was more attached to Earth, and he didn't need technology to survive. Billy was the bravest in the group, the one who fears no one, but not the smartest, so Dutch would be saved. When she decides not to run away, not to be the prey, and she uses what the jungle gives her.
The hunter became the hunted. Once survival is the constant, the rules are quite clear. Great movie & script. We as humans were once considered hunter-gathers, but our history has shown we are predators.
Well that was a...Chesty beginning Tee Hee! 😉😁 Anyway, the original title to this movie was going to be Hunter and the creature was going to look more insectile. The Predator itself is from a species that are known to be honorable hunters and if the prey they're after is deemed worthy then there's a one on one fight as shown with Arnold's character. Much like any hunter it uses mimicry and such to lure them in.
Predator is from a race called Yautja , warrior race who hunts others such as warriors like Arnold for trophies like their skeletal remains. That's why Predator didn't killed woman because she wasn't armed.
The laughing was Bobby's recording when he was told that joke... The predator just played it back , yes They can mimic sounds , with there tech... I highly hope you all watch the remaining PREDATOR films and hopefully/eventually watch ALIEN vs PREDATOR, just the first one, I've watched these movies since I was 8 years old lol! oh, little trivia for you, the actor who played the PREDATOR, Kevin Peter Hall, after having to endure wearing the costume in the steaming hot jungle, the director just had to have him make one appearance in the film, so he was one of the helicopter pilots you see at the end after the bomb goes off! really enjoyed this reaction, oh and I also hope you get around to watching ALIEN 3 and Resurrection!
I think the first kill of the predator was like: "Oh, look at this little guy. He raw away from his pack. Nice of him to make my job easier, let's do this!"
The actor who played Hawkins is named Shane black who brought the screenplay of lethal weapon 2 iron Man 3 0 and the new Terminator movie that came out in 2018
Actor Kevin Peter Hall who played the predator also played the helicopter pilot at the end of the movie and he played in part 2 as a predator and it was Harry from Harry and the Henderson movie about Bigfoot
Dawn looking at Jesse Ventura "That guy's going to die first". When she sees a screaming creature attack the group at night "that's a boar, I saw fur" "Watch him be in the same tree as him" Dawn predicts everything lol.
A suggestion for you ladies, Bowfinger, & Major Payne. Eddie Murphy, & Steve Martin as well as a ton of other people star in Bowfinger, a movie about making a film on a almost non existent budget gorilla style. Major Payne starring Damon Wayans about a crazy military man taking over a private school J.R.O.T.C. Both films are hilarious comedies that I promise all of you will love.
'Aliens vs Predator' is worth a watch if you haven't read the comic books. Ladies, I've searched your channel high and low and I can't find a reaction to 'John Carpenter's The Thing' from 1982. All the other reaction channels have done it. A reaction anytime soon, or have you already seen it?
Irony is that the Predator is actually a more decent and respectful hunter than human hunters are. We're terrified by the idea only because he's hunting humans.
Man I haven't watched this movie in ages! I forgot how little Jesse "The Body" Ventura was in this. Definitely gonna have to re-watch. It's such a good movie!
Fun Fact: Jean Claude Van Dame was considered to play "Predator", but producers stated that he was too short for the part. That's how late actor named Kevin Peter Hall gotten that part as "Predator" because he did stand 7'2" tall taller than Arnold. KPH died in 1991 due to complications of AIDS. KPH had tainted blood transfusion with AIDS virus. KPH did other acting in movies and TV shows such as he was "Harry" in Harry and the Henderson, about Bigfoot living with a family. It was read that KPH was a gentle giant. RIP KPH!
By the way, actor, Shane Black (Hawkins) KIA by the Predator written screenplays for movies such as Lethal Weapons franchise. Shane is also an director directed a lot of movies too. Shane directed a direct sequel to Predator 1 & 2 that was released in 2018 called The Predator.
I love Predator as much as Alien, because with Alien you have an terrifying animal that is so anatomically powerful that it’s a killing machine. However in Predator you have an alien that is terrifying because it is an intelligent hunter who uses tactics and technology against us.

The Yautja as the Predator race calls itself, has been hunting on earth for thousands of years. They hunt for sport and honor (which is why they don't killed unarmed females for example). Also, as a rite of passage from youngling to adulthood they have to defeat a xenomorph Queen (the Alien in the Ripley movies) whom they consider to be the most powerful of their preys.
The original Predator was Jean-Claude Van Damme, but the costume sucked so much that they completely redesigned it and got a different, much taller, guy to play the alien. Best decision they could've made, the original looked like a crappy Power Rangers villain.

@ I'm not a fan of Aliens. I feel like Aliens is way more action than horror. Predator has the big early action sequence, then slows down a lot (in a good way) and the characters really become interesting and distinct, while in Aliens they all feel like the same character to me just nonstop yelling at each other and aliens all over the place.
This is one I’ve been waiting for a long time
Love your reactions! React to Predator 2 next
"It's really funny to see women watch a hard core action film and have no clue what going to happen. But can enjoy a good scare,"
Great reaction guys. You've done 3 of the Big 4 (Alien, Aliens & Predator), now it's time for 1982's The Thing. I can't wait. 🙂
The predator was played by the helicopter pilot at the end.
Oh god no, Predator 2 is a travesty. Just like Alien/Aliens. The sequels suck.
@@OroborusFMA Well I will say it's not as good as the first one but it's certainly better than any of the other sequels - especially "the predator"
the first couple seconds of the video was amazing
I don't think there's been a better Predator than Kevin Peter Hall. Not only was he such a tall guy, but mostly it was the way he moved. After all the ones that came after, he was the most frightening and believable. RIP KEVIN PETER HALL. 🙏🏾
I thought I'd share:
1) Duke's rambling the lyrics to the song played before they left the chopper.
2) It's horror but in reality it's more psychological horror (for the viewer to put themselves in the shoes of the best of the best & become the prey)
3) I think the predator was "trimming fat" of the group until he got to the best of the best & a worthy opponent. Some deaths seem to have happened simply to let the prey know of it's existence on purpose & others like Blain (Jesse Ventura's character) were taken out for being too risky to be left alive any longer. Its also posdible it was because he carried heavy equipment rendering him a slow & easy target (essentially saying this trait/features makes him weak not strong)
4) The predator may be taking each victim out in different hunting styles leaving 1 on 1 to the end.
F) Fearless Billy stopped fearing the predator and faced him head on (faced his fears)
That's all I can think of/my 2 cents. Great reaction!
Peter Cullen (Who voiced Optimus Prime) did the noise the Predator makes
The trap Arnold set for the Predator to be under the dead fall was very cool. He made those spikes a little long so the Predator would see them and go around to the other end where he had his real trap.
Oooooo yay, I've been waiting for this one 🙌🙌
Also yes, as you could see along the movie, he was recording various bits of speech and sounds, that he used some of later on in the movie to lure or taunt people.
I'm sad I didn't hear the best line in the movie GET TO THE CHOPPA!!!
Fun fact: The actor who played Billy also appeared in the movie 48 hours as another Billy and also died with a knife.
Anyway, the original title to this movie was going to be Hunter and the creature was going to look more insectile. The Predator itself is from a species that are known to be honorable hunters and if the prey they're after is deemed worthy then there's a one on one fight as shown with Arnold's character. Much like any hunter it uses mimicry and such to lure them in.
That laugh at the end was Billy's laugh recorded or mimicked trying to mock(?) Dutch's ultimate failure.
The reason the blast didn't kill Arnold is because it hit his gun
Plot Armour
Yeah, it was aiming for his gun. It wanted a good fight from him
Predator is from a race called Yautja , warrior race who hunts others such as warriors like Arnold for trophies like their skeletal remains. That's why Predator didn't killed woman because she wasn't armed.
The laughing was Bobby's recording when he was told that joke... The predator just played it back , yes They can mimic sounds , with there tech... Just like a human Hunter uses turkey calls or deer calls ,,There's a lot more to it keep watching. i'm also real Excited for the rest of season 5 of the clone wars..
☝️”Billy”, yes.
awesome!!! I was hoping you'd all get around to watching this, though I didn't know how your mom would take to the gore even though by today standards it's nothing by comparison, I'm glad she was able to take it! the PREDATOR or Yautja as they're called in the comics, are basically alien hunters who choose to hunt the strongest prey to be their trophies/prize, and they do this as a ritual of sorts! what better prey for the PREDATOR then a combat soldier!
Billy didn’t die he just stepped on a LEGO and screamed really loud
I actually watched this movie for the first time last week.
The Best Predator movie!
nice ,You'll love them all the latest one was kind of iffy though... but still fun
Predator and Robocop had great franchise potential just from their respective opening films.
When she sees a screaming creature attack the group at night "that's a boar, I saw fur"
"Watch him be in the same tree as him"
Dawn predicts everything lol.
Congrats on the merch!
The original concept the the Predator was going to be bug-like, portrayed by Jean Claude van Damme.
Kevin Peter Hall was one of the helicopter pilot at the end the movie too
An action classic and an incredible example of how tension builds a film
These 3 ladies watching arguably the manliest film ever made!!!
I love Predator as much as Alien, because with Alien you have an terrifying animal that is so anatomically powerful that it’s a killing machine. However in Predator you have an alien that is terrifying because it is an intelligent hunter who uses tactics and technology against us.
The laugh is mimic from Billy. Watch Predator 2 for more learn about that race
Such a fantastic movie and I've been waiting for you folks to watch it. I don't think any of the sequels or Alien tie ins have been able to equal or surpass what made this one so great.
One of two films - The Running Man - with two future US governors.
Kinda ironic that them, and Reagan were all republicans, yet Hollywood is considered so liberal.
@@MikeB12800 Parts of California (Reagan, Ahnuld) are very right-wing. Ventura never identified as Republican. He was independent as a mayor, then Reform as governor.
You must do the awesome sequel, Predator 2. Takes place in a whole different jungle! ✌️😎
Jean Claude Van Damm was originally supposed to play the roll of the Predator but he had issues with scheduling.
I love this channel. You guys are so adorable.
predator was observing the mimicking his preys behaviors
Sacrosanct among action movies, alongside Robocop and Total Recall.
twds the end when mac & dillion went after predator... during his running up the hill, mac was re singing the line from the song in the chopper 'ooh baby, havin' me some fun tonight' - little richard: long tall sally. mac sang the song as a last calling to his fallen friend blain, as he was attempting to get revenge/kill the predator.
request - could you ladies continue the movie continuity and watch predator 2, please?
the predator species are known as the 'yautja' and they associate via tribes
The Yautja as the Predator race calls itself, has been hunting on earth for thousands of years. They hunt for sport and honor (which is why they don't killed unarmed females for example). Also, as a rite of passage from youngling to adulthood they have to defeat a xenomorph Queen (the Alien in the Ripley movies) whom they consider to be the most powerful of their preys.
The laugh was a recording of billy laughing earlier they can mimic sounds
Yes, he was mimicking Billy's laugh.
The first time I saw Predator, I miss the opening sequence with the space ship. Without that knowledge the film is so much more suspenseful.
The original Predator was Jean-Claude Van Damme, but the costume sucked so much that they completely redesigned it and got a different, much taller, guy to play the alien. Best decision they could've made, the original looked like a crappy Power Rangers villain.
Predator actor also appear on Night court the tv series. He was the tall brother that exscaped the new york insane asylum with some other patients 7ft 4inch
and Misfits of science, it was the first attempt at an X Men type TV show.
When I was a kid, I thought Predator was just an action movie. Now I realize that it's mostly a horror movie.
Same with Terminator 1
@@chrisklitou7573Exactly! lol
More like _Aliens_ it being horror-action.
EDIT: And I get it, it's called Aliens! lol But I just don't like the movie.
This movie is based on the Middle Age story of Beowulf, an army commander who brings his troops into a Kingdom where an invisible monster kills people during the night.
i aint got time to bleed...but i love this movie
Just to say this eventually connects to the Alien series through Aliens Vs Predator
"WHAAAT...THE HELL...ARE YOOUU?"
