I've been driving for 23 years and never went through a school or rode with any trainer and my first load was a 5 stop load going down the east coast from Connecticut to Baltimore w/stops in New York City and New Jersey. And there was no such thing as a GPS. If that won't make you quit, NOTHING will. This dudes advice is great advice. Stick it out for a year...at least, it will get better I promise. It only takes a year to be a truck driver. It takes 2, to be a professional truck driver. After 2 years you will be doing it long enough, to know how to cut out any stress you don't need. When the stress goes down, the confidence goes up, and you start to realize, you got the best job in the country.
Thank you, needed to hear this today. This was my first week on my own and it's been tough. Monday hose ripped inside the Port and had water gushing everywhere, Tuesday tire exploded on the fwy, wed and Thurs pounding rain in an old beat up truck. Today was thinking that maybe this isn't for me, but I'm going to keep going.
In my first year I had all that! There were days I just wanted to drive the truck into a ditch! After 4.5 years now I'm much calmer. The realization that shit happens, but your attitude makes the difference,is the key to enjoying the journey! It also helps that i get paid by the hour!Keep on truckin'
Thank you for your advice am 2 moths in the game and I was thinking about quitting because I feel horrible, lonely, and stupid but am going to stick with this this year.
Erick Fuentes are u still driving?? I want to do this becuz nothing else is working for me, but I have a family and I no would miss them.. is it worth the money thanks
I just barely passed my exam first shot and struggled with the road test too. When I was practicing I was able to do 90 degree backing with only 1-3 pull ups consistently but on the test I had to do 8 pull ups. lol goes to show how much being under pressure and stress can affect your driving.
I went with Averit 6 yrs ago. I was so excited, and my training was so smooth. Then when I got on my everything that could go wrong did. I was so stressed, depressed, anxiety, and scared. I made the big mistake of quitting, and regretted it. This time I know what to expect and I'm going to get through it.
Thank you TWayne...I have been syruggling the last couple days i just went for my test. Pass pre trip passed manuevers, made it 15/16 thru drive test and on the way back to site last turn met head on traffic panicked cut the wheel and hit the curb....ugh im rescheduled for the 21st. If i could emphasise anything...be comfortable with the shifting, dont let that be a distraction before one goes to test. Next time I will m t the head and walk away with my cdl..thanks
Deer trucker wayne, I recently got my cdl back in 2018 and quit after my first week after driving from spirit truck lines. My question is, will companies rehire you if you leaf after the first week of employment
