Fabulous playing, Robert! Thank you for leaving time to breathe. This may be called the "Battle Hymn of the Reformation", but whatever you may have to battle out in life, you have to breathe and give it time. It's not meant to be a rush or chase to see who gets finished first! Fully agree with williamsdog9's remark below! Thank you Robert and keep the good playing up!
Majestic! All glory, majesty, power and praise be to HIM, our Great High King of Heaven WHO is crowned with many crowns, Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus Christ, soon coming on the clouds of Glory! HalleluYah!
Holy crap FINALLY SOMEONE WHO PLAYS WITH A PAUSE IN THE FIRST 2 STANZAS!!! You know how many THOUSANDS of renditions in hundreds of churches (reformed mostly but also non-reformed) I’ve had to SUFFER through by not being allowed to breathe?? 😅 Other than the little rural church I grew up in, nobody else in the world seems CAPABLE OF GRASPING THE PAUSE!!!! Great playing brother!! ♥️👍😎🙏👏
Brother I Fully agree with you!!!! I don't know why so many renditions do that!!!! Musically its terrible!!! There is a NATURAL feel and need to pause after musical Phrase which is a Sentence in Sound!!
Yeah, I have to wonder if the original German version of the hymn had that pause, though. Something to think about if something got lost in translation.
a man after my own heart for sure...whether you're singing or playing a wind instrument you need air!!!! Wait a minute, aren't vocal chords a wind instrument??? :)
Sounds GREAT! I love that you're not afraid to pump up the bass notes - I can see the vibrations in the camera so I can feel it from here! Well done. :)
Chris Oelkers version of this has long been a favorite of mine here. This version may have surpassed that excellence. Bravo, well done! Powerful. Superb! Thankyou
@Pierre Metayer: Hinduism had Sri Krishna, Islam -- Muhammad, & Zoroaster was for ZOROASTERISM. Along w/ Moses, Abraham & Jesus. All were divine teachers, avatars or manifestations sent by God to give mankind new teachings. Now, the Bab, & Baha'u'llah (the Glory of God) r here for the next thousands of years. Jesus said, 'I will return in the 'glory of God'. Baha'u'llah came in the 1800s to fulfill that promise. 'Were man to appreciate the greatness of his station & the loftiness of his destiny. He would manifest naught save goodly character, pure deeds, & a seemly & praiseworthy character ... By virtue of the love he cherisheth for God." Tablets of Baha'u'llah p. 172 He has come to unite the world!
Well well. one of my favorite hymns and I enjoyed. Please don't play it in a hurry, add more legato and mix the dynamics ie f, ff, p, pp and some flares like thrills. just relax but remember I appreciate your playing. I would love to hear you play again. I have subscribed
(For clarification I’m talking about the pause between 14 & 15 seconds… in case nobody understood my comment. 99% of churches remove this natural pause for some unknown reason ..)
Really needed to hear this!!! And were those bagpipes.....how do they fit them in the Organ? Lol. So cool...thank you! From, Michigan's Upper Peninsula
I know this has been a year since you wrote this, but those sound like chorus reed pipes. I think those are Trompette en Chamade pipes, but I may be wrong.
There are two versions of the hymn. There is a rhythmic version (which is the one I am playing) and an isometric version. The isometric is much slower. I played this one a bit faster than I would normally play for congregational singing, as I was not accompanying a congregation -- but, I wasn't playing it much faster. It really is meant to be an upbeat and brisk hymn. The problem with many churches is that organists/pianists drag the music out, and the music becomes a funeral march more than a rejoicing and celebrating of the faith.
It's the way it is written in the hymnal I am playing out of, and most church''s sing it entirely too slow. It is meant to be sung with fervor and vigor -- keep moving, don't drag.
I am not playing for a choir or congregation jack***. And, I am playing it as written in the hymnal that I am playing out of. Take your snarky stuff somewhere else please.
As a Lutheran, I have always loved this hymn written by Martin Luther. We sing it often in our church.
This was the processional for my wedding, with congregational singing. It has always thrilled me!
my great aunt who passed away this was her favorite hymn to play and sing
I used to see Davey & Goliath as a child every Sunday. I will never forget this tune, spiritual.
So did I. I remain Lutheran to my death. I love this man Dr Luther. ✝️✝️✝️
We also watched every Sunday before going to Sunday school.
I still have that show on DVD
@@cathleen4474 same here
Wow, i had forgotten all about that show. I liked it!
love the camera shaking from the sheer sound of the organ
My favorite hymn, masterfully played on a pipe organ! My love for it began, watching Davey and Goliath, as a little girl, in the 1960's.
I am Catholic and I love this hymn.Beautifully played!☺️
This is just how it was played at our Catholic church.
You’re allowed to be Catholic and enjoy this hymn! 😉
Equality for Catholics I love this hymn it’s so catchy
Our Lord Saviour Jesus Christ
One of my favorite hymns. Very nice
That custom finish on the horn at the end was wonderful!!!
Magnificent 🙏
Majestic!
Praise to God for this humble hymn. Just beautiful
Beautiful tune and so skilfully performed. Well done, most uplifting.

I love this hymn because im a Lutheran
Absolutely PERFECT tempo. Noting worse than an exuberant hymn dragging or quiet for that matter. Nice solo out on the tuba!

As a congregational singer, I appreciate the opportunity to breathe!
@@WedgeBob it has several natural pauses and is much more of a fight song. This version is tepid in comparison.

Listening to this was delightful. Just beautiful. Thank you Robert.

Gradisco tutto questo.
Grazie!
Thank you, Pak
Very impressive!
Excellent
Prefer this harmonization over the one in the ELW. Nicely played!
Yes, the one out of The United Methodist Hymnal is much more peppy, and I like the harmonization.
我神是我堅固磐石,是我靠山永不移;
雖然兇惡猖獗得勢,神必助我直到底。
仍是老舊仇敵,現在又來攻擊;
詭計,能力都大,恨毒,殘暴,兇殺,
地上無人能抵牠。
我們若靠自己力量,戰爭必然要失敗;
萬軍之主若在身旁,我們必然要奏凱。
這位萬軍之主,乃是基督耶穌,
直到永世無彊,祂必仍是一樣;
惟有祂能打勝仗!
魔鬼雖然利用世人,來向我們施攻擊,
但神定意藉著我們,彰顯傳揚祂真理。
名利都可遠離,生死我也不計;
即便殺我身體,真理仍然屹立,
神的國度永無已!
Superb

It is in the United Methodist Hymnal, and you should be able to find it online.

A bit rushed I think. Absolutely loved how the camera was shaking with the bass notes
I would love to duet with you on trombone...would be sooo sweet. :)

Beautifully played. Not at all draggy!
Why are current renditions of this hymn played so much faster than what I remember as a child and young adult? Did metronomes suddenly speed up?

What is the big hurry in playing this hymn?

Whatever
@@robertwilson5239 The Lutheran hymnal I have in front of me right now agrees with yours. This song is a marching order to Christians.
Mag wel wat langzamer meneer...........!
Good tempo, but the phrasing was not consistent.
Otherwise, fine.
Just a bit too fast for a congregation to sing. Don't rush such elegant tunes; give them the gravitas they deserve without dragging.
7457shakthi you are pretending to be pregnant , why are you like that ???
slow down playing way to fast.
No
It sounds beautiful and powerful.❤️🙏🏻
Rubbish! It is perfectly paced
It's for church, and might have to be played faster in order to keep it from taking up a lot of the in the service.
Your phrasing stinks. There is no room for the choir or congregation to breathe at the end of the phrases.
I am not playing for a choir or congregation jack***. And, I am playing it as written in the hymnal that I am playing out of. Take your snarky stuff somewhere else please.
