“On Jordan’s Banks the Baptist’s Cry” (Puer Nobis Nascitur)

I always chuckle on this Sunday. Usually, the Second Sunday of Advent contains the reading from Matthew or Mark’s gospel that tells of John the Baptist and his preparatory work for Jesus. We hear the familiar words, “Prepare the way of the Lord. Make straight his paths.” When I was a child, I always laughed, because I thought this was the Sunday that we were going to make the Baptists cry. 1 On...

One of the few Haugen hymns I like. I tend to be a traditionalist when it comes to church music. This is one of the few contemporary pieces that I do like. The lyrical tune is lovely, and the lyrics are very appropriate for Advent. I apologize for rushing it a bit in places.

Prelude and Fugue in F Major (J.S. Bach)
Thank you Robert! One of my favorites.
Love it!
Excellent version. The pauses are all incorporated the way I think they should be (for what that’s worth).
Directly from Martin Luther himself. Luther was the reluctant impetus of the great Reformation. All he wanted was the Catholic church to do a Mea maximus culpa and stop selling indulgences. The Vatican wanted him killed. He found out quickly what a mess the Vatican really was.
Beautifully played! Very much enjoyed listening to your talent. Please don't stop posting these types of musical pieces....
amazing!
Das a thicc ole boy!
I would like to know more about this instrument. Can you tell us about it in your next video? Thanks.
0:54 the trumpets are my favorite part!
love the camera shaking from the sheer sound of the organ
Lindo louvor a Deus.Parabéns. Gilberto - de Curitiba Paraná Brasil
my great aunt who passed away this was her favorite hymn to play and sing
Majestic!
This was the processional for my wedding, with congregational singing. It has always thrilled me!
I love this hymn because im a Lutheran
A Mighty Fortress is Our God," written in the 1500's, by Martin Luther.
Magnificent 🙏
Thank you.
Great Music. Great Video. Well Done. Thank you. Greeting from Germany.
Beautiful piano praise to The KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS. HalleluYAH!
Beautiful. Thank you ❤🙏
Your phrasing stinks. There is no room for the choir or congregation to breathe at the end of the phrases.
I am not playing for a choir or congregation jack***. And, I am playing it as written in the hymnal that I am playing out of. Take your snarky stuff somewhere else please.
@@robertwilson5239 I think you did a wonderful job playing this classic on the magnificent church organ. The Internet can be a rough place. Don't let occasional comments like that discourage you. Keep up the good work! God bless ❤
AWESOME! I started played the organ because of this fabulous hymn.. I would like to ask you: is possible to share the sheet?
It is in the United Methodist Hymnal, and you should be able to find it online.
Beautiful!
What a beautiful piece of real musiic, and the scenery is also beautiful. Thank you
Great playing, but this is not Winchester New.. this is Puer Nobis Nascitur (most commonly used to the text What Star is This.) I'm not sure if this is actually used for On Jordan's Bank or if you just uploaded the wrong file!
You’re correct! Not sure why I listed Winchester New, though it can be sung to that tune a well.
To bad we cant see the organ
Is that you playing the panio
Yes.
Absolutely beautiful. He is Risen!
Why are current renditions of this hymn played so much faster than what I remember as a child and young adult? Did metronomes suddenly speed up?
There are two versions of the hymn. There is a rhythmic version (which is the one I am playing) and an isometric version. The isometric is much slower. I played this one a bit faster than I would normally play for congregational singing, as I was not accompanying a congregation -- but, I wasn't playing it much faster. It really is meant to be an upbeat and brisk hymn. The problem with many churches is that organists/pianists drag the music out, and the music becomes a funeral march more than a rejoicing and celebrating of the faith.
That was wonderful! I love this hymn tune.
As a Lutheran, I have always loved this hymn written by Martin Luther. We sing it often in our church.
Awesome
братишке - похудеть.Люблю тебя,брат!
Prefer this harmonization over the one in the ELW. Nicely played!
Yes, the one out of The United Methodist Hymnal is much more peppy, and I like the harmonization.
Beautiful. Very moving and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for sharing.
I like it ❤
Cela manque de respirations .
One of my favorite hymns. Very nice
That custom finish on the horn at the end was wonderful!!!
Very beautiful 😊
Bet everyone knows this from the Claymation series Davey & Goliath ❤✝️
As a Navy family member I thank you.
Nice one😊
Praise be to god.
Beautifully played and uplifting. Every Blessing
Robert, could you post the details about this piece...I would love to find the sheet music for this.
It is in a number of old hymnals (mainly Lutheran). I think you may be able to find it a hymnary.com, not sure.
@@robertwilson5239 Thanks Robert I will look for it. BTW working on doing a trombone lead for a mighty fortress...the big challenge is finding places to breathe. :) Apparently Martin Luther didn't think singers or wind instrument players needed to :) So we labor on.
@@thomaswomack3888 try the version in the United Methodist Hymnal. It has a very decent arrangement.
Nicely played Robert, you have a wonderful touch.
❤ love this hymn.
I would love to duet with you on trombone...would be sooo sweet. :)
Yes! That would be lovely.
