I had the Barracuda and Scooner. To this day my absolute favorites. My mom knocked one of them off my nightstand, I was so upset. I wish I kept the original boxes. I think both are in pieces at my parents house to this day. I’d love to buy them again and build with my son.
That would be a great plan ! Back in the 80s and 90s if you didn’t save the institutions and set destroyed… disaster since no internet… happened to me with an over eager babysitter… scrambled 5 large pirates sets in less than 2 hours. I was so sad … so understand a little of the feeling
i dont have those ships but i still have "red beard runner" and the "armada flagship" and two of the smaller scooners with sone island forts. cant wait till my son is old enough so we can play with them again
Interesting little bit of history: With the release of the Black Seas Barracuda Lego also printed minifigure heads with new faces for the first time. Before that all we had was the standard smiley face.
Oh yes! The whole pirate theme was a huge leap forward for Lego. I really also love the soldier sets , with the new printed faces released at same time as BSB
I actually liked the third ship, 6289, but with minor modification as I would remove the destruction part of the set. Visually I loved the ship and I love the color scheme, and I loved the concept of the back with the cabin having a skull shape
I always wanted to have the Barracuda, but we could never afford it. I remember staring at it in our local lego shop for years.... Couple of years ago I have decided to take a shortcut and bought 2 Enlighten replica sets of it.
Two sets! Bet they look amazing together, are you happy with the Enlighten sets? I got my Barracuda a few years ago without the sails and a few parts but was able to eventally piece it together.
Stop it from yellowing by keeping it out of UV light. For whitening the sails, make a solution of Vanish Oxi Action powder in lukewarm water. Put the sails in and leave them for 3-4 hours or until clean. carefully replace the solution with clean water, then CAREFULLY transfer the sail onto a dry cloth. you can also press it flat between a towel with some weight on top. After pressing for a few hours, let to air dry. Afterwards you can iron the sail. Iron at medium heat between a white tshirt.
@@jstarsc0mm I would not mess with adding anything to the sails. From my exprerience it will only make them worse, not better. There is excellent replacement sails online if you really need something looking like new. I did have great success with the H2O2 cleaners though. It can turn yellowed and stained sails into almost new.
Great advice.. I have some old sails I’ll try that on. It is sad things yellow and fade. For the 6285 I display with replacement sails and keep originals tucked away in drawer… except for videos 🙂
Very cool pirate ships, but I would not recomend them because they are too expensive. Lego Creator 3 in 1 pirate ship is much more afforadable even though is not as cool as vintage ships.

Those are great ships and bet will be fantastic family time when kids are ready to build !!

Oh… your modifications sound spot on! I’m right now deep into new castle sets but time for me to circle back to Pirates!

Nice video James, as always!!
Thanks again!
I love these Lego ships! But man, collecting these ships gets expensive once you expand to PotC and the imperial flagship.
I was able to collect those sets years ago before the crazy LEGO inflation hit. LOL.. they all look really nice displayed though
@@vintagebricks yeah they look amazing!
Favorite comment at 2:13… “If you are eight years old, you could get your hands in here easily…” 😂
🙂🙂
how do you wash and take care of the sails? after yellowing how to get out the yellow and how to prevent it from ever yellowing?

where did you purchase your replacement sails?@@vintagebricks
Imo the 2 best lego sets ever ❤ (6285, 6286)
Agree! I have the Imperial Flagship set but still in Box. Someday I'll build it and maybe it will amaze me as everyone says.
Ah yes the schooner.... Still a dot on my bucket list. Maybe waiting for thw right time?
For sure good to be patient for the right time, and deal…. This is one of the most expensive old Lego pirate set I think
No love for Caribbean Clipper?
Yes I do love the clipper! Guess I was thinking for this video about Redbeard ships.

It’s been great to see Lego release more pirate theme sets… hopefully they have even more coming!
i like pirates
These are great . But I’m biased
