Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a set of inflammatory conditions affecting the tissues surrounding the teeth. In its early stage, called gingivitis, the gums become swollen, red, and may bleed. In its more serious form, called periodontitis, the gums can pull away from the tooth, bone can be lost, and the teeth may loosen or fall out.Bad breath may also occur.
Periodontal disease is generally due to bacteria in the mouth infecting the tissue around the teeth.Risk factors include smoking, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, family history, and certain medications. Diagnosis is by inspecting the gum tissue around the teeth both visually and with a probe and X-rays looking for bone loss around the teeth.
Treatment involves good oral hygiene and regular professional teeth cleaning.Recommended oral hygiene include daily brushing and flossing. In certain cases antibiotics or dental surgery may be recommended.Globally 538 million people were estimated to be affected in 2015. In the United States nearly half of those over the age of 30 are affected to some degree, and about 70% of those over 65 have the condition. Males are affected more often than females.
I went very-low to zero-carb in my eating, and all gum swelling and discomfort disappeared permanently. I came here to make sure I know all the symptoms for future reference, in case their were symptoms other than the obvious pain/swelling etc. This is not medical/dental advice since I'm not qualified, but it's free, and has had no deleterious effects whatsoever. Maybe it could work for you too. All the best.
Hi...what happens if our gums become black
@@akshithaakshi2656 Hi. I have no idea what could make gums go black or what happens if they do, sorry. I was just relaying my own experience. If you're gums have gone black, maybe consult a dentist/doctor?
Excellent presentation. Thank you. It would be good if you can create a video explaining the difference between periodontitis and gingivitis.
Great suggestion!

I have gum disease 😔
I have to take good care of my teeth, same with everyone else, because this is why you have to brush your teeth everyday of every year like this, because this can cause a gum disease problem.
Proper oral hygiene, including daily brushing, is essential to prevent gum disease and maintain overall dental health ❤️.
@@MedicalCentricwell, I heard two fathers and one man who was a husband and not a father died from that issue years ago, I was shocked that those tooth infections killed those three men in the past.
This is a horrible condition. I've been on birth control for 30 years and slacked in getting cleanings, AND I smoke. Dont be like me. 4 abscesses within one month and dentists just push me off for a month or longer between visits. It's terrible and only getting worse because this stupid covid has caused rushes of patients and I can't get in anywhere!
I think I have the same thing . How are you feeling ?
@@mariyahj8609 I still haven't gotten the required deep cleaning, and still have him disease. I probably always will.
Start rinsing with sea salt rinse and mix sesame oil with crushed cloves. It's help with the inflammation and pain. I have receding gums now. It's a temporary fix until can get scheduled
This sucks you know they say you should avoid kissing your partner 😢single forever 🎉
It's important to maintain good oral hygiene to reduce the risk of gum disease. ❤️
