Old age is nobody's friend but Micheal is handling it better than most. I am about 10 years behind him and I hope I manage it with as much grace. He still has "that" voice.
So very humble. What a wonderful person Can't believe he is gone. Miss you Mike. Thanhyou for all you gave while you were with us. Your music lives on forever
Two years later he passed, a very difficult song to sing, the highs are difficult and he still had it. Rest in peace Michael, I'll always remember you as a young man in the Monkees.
Even in old age Michael Nesmith still managed to knock out of the ballpark. He will be missed but not forgotten. This his signature song because the man had talent.
This song is so meaningful to me. My first crush was on a girl named Joanne. In 1970 I was 13. She was a year older than I was. We went Le Conte Jr High in Hollywood She never knew who I was. The closest I ever got to getting to know her was getting her phone number calling her hearing her voice and hanging up totally petrified! That whole episode lasted about a week! This song really gets to me! One of my many great memories of growing up in the 60's and 70's!
Michael my good sir, I grew up with your music back in the day. This is one of the most beautiful songs of all time...EVER. Thank you for your deep love and talent, you are a true life poet of our times for generations now. My heart to yours, take good care my friend. Thank you so much for all you gave us....
Happiest of trails dear Michael, you will be deeply missed....This video is a heartbreaker for me and so many of us...he was so true and so fine now and forever....
One of the most heartfelt and beautiful songs of all time! The harmonies are so haunting they tear my heart up everytime that I hear them absolutely beautiful! RiP Michael I'm sure that they love your music where you are!!
The most gifted musician and singer out of The Monkees and could hold his own against any of the singer/ guitarists of his generation. I loved this the very first time I heard it on the radio back around 1982. It was 12 years old by then and I realised Mike was a real musician and a great voice. God bless Mike. Sadly missed but forever remembered. 👏🌷🎼🎤
Mike was my favorite Monkee!! My name is Joanne, so I was shocked when I found out in the 70s that there was actually a song about a girl (who spelled her name the same way I do) named Joanne...and then to find out it was written by Mike Nesmith!! Love the pedal steel and his high notes. He is missed. I saw Peter and Micky in Charlotte back several years ago. I was so disappointed that Mike didn't join them that tour. They did a great "Daydream Believer" memorial tribute to Davy that night. Our usher told us he saw them in Charlotte (when they first started touring) and a new guy (Jimi Hendrix) did warm up for them!! Yep! THAT Jimi!! 😁
You were hot in the seventies Mike but oh my, you still have it, whatever age you are. And thank God for that. One of my top 10 favorite songs although I must confess when I sing it the girl's name is Ruth Ann which is my name😻Thanks for the music😻 I live in Texas wish I would have had time to look you up. I met Mickey when I worked for a radio station in California, but would have loved to have had met you at some point. You're one of the few Musicians I have loved from the 60s until this very day. The thing I like the best about you is you never sold out that is so awesome.💫💫🏝💫💫
I've never seen this video before.I have been a Monkees fan since I was 5 yrs.old.Mike Nesmith was always my fave. His talent was incredible and still is.thanks for sharing this video.
Nesmith was alway my favorite Monkee too. A few years ago I started listening to the old Monkees albums and Nesmith had some great stuff on there that I'd never heard before, I was just used to their greatest hits.
i was lucky enough to see mike and micky's final concert of their farewell tour. a few short weeks later mike was gone. i've been a monkees/nesmith fan since the tv show debuted in 1966 so seeing that show was like coming full circle (sky).
Dont get many songs of love nowdays, its all my baby f this and my baby f that. Thanks very much for sharing this video. Who knew Speedy? who knew. RIP Michael. Thanks for the tunes.
Anyone who has love for his or her family just as Michael did makes a guy like me cry as I'm family oriented and wish more songs like this being recorded God bless.
Thanks for capturing this with decent quality and sharing it. This could be, if not the last, close to the last recorded performance of Papa Nez. It's certainly the most recent performance of him that I've had the opportunity to enjoy. Most importantly, Mike is in good form here, both in voice and on guitar (amazing for a person his age), and he's back at the Troubadour! It's, also, an excellent performance of one of his most well known and loved songs, Joanne. How could ANYONE NOT like this! Well done, Speedy. L308C66V19351S61/:-)
@@speedyrb7382 I'm glad of that as well! I'll look for the other videos you posted, also. Yes, he'll be missed, but remembered with the help of people such as yourself who post videos of his performances. Hoe many more could there be yet seen? Thanks again. /:-)
We wish Robert Michael Nesmith would've lived up to 💯 years old. It's just like what the former state secretary Henry Kissenger did. Even though the Beatles were more into politics than the Monkees were.
My good friend, very musically knowledgable, said I had been abducted by aliens because she had never heard this song when i told her it was one of my all-time favorites, and i must have heard it on board their spaceship. Hah!
Was this after Nez open heart? I had one in 2013.....it ruined my voice with the tubes down my throat......I may have to have a second one.....will find out this Friday......
This is touching.
This tune haunts me.
i'll miss him forever 💔

i think the audience threw him off
Rip mike your a legend
Always a favorite. The vocal is a challenge, I know from personal experience. Michael still has it, and thank you Michael.
RIP Michael Nesmith. Thank you for the songs and the memories, Papa Nez.
His death was just announced. This song, both lyrics and melody, gives me shivers: it’s such a bittersweet song.
Well said 👍🏻. Thank you for everything Michael, Rest In God’s Own Peace.
I get watery eyes when I hear this nowadays. I really appreciate his tribute to the world of music.

Props to Nez for still being able to hit those high notes and hold them, nice and clear!

it dosent get better - thankyou for the memories Mr Nesmith .
Filled with love. I hear the love of God in Michael's voice. Heaven
Lovely that he was singing so recently .. fly high Mike 🎈
Dang, he still hit the high notes. What an underrated singer, and amazing musician. RIP, sir.
It's so sad to watch this now that Mike is gone but the wonderful music he made will live on forever
What a great song Mr Nesmith, just like it's writer and performer, absolute excellence! Rest in peace kind, nice man!!

That song is just so so sweet rip brother
As far as I can see there's no reason for goodbye.

@@Xane_Dragon Kind of an unsympathetic jackass way to say that, let alone to the man's heartfelt comment about someone he admired.
