Lets say I start at level one and end at level twelve, what progression would you recommend?

I'd probably go bard 6 to get additional magical secrets then warlock 2 the rest bard.

Depends on how deep you're playing and what level you would finish in the campaign but I'd probably level till additional magical secrets then pick up the warlock levels. Also casters aren't as picky on levels because cantrips give you extra damage no matter what level.
