it is, especially when you know that originally WrestleMania was meant to be the very thing that elevates pro wrestling to the mainstream, and it did! and as of today i've seen couple of people start watching wrestling by randomly checking out Wrestlemania 39 or 40 and being hooked by the sheer spectacle and magnitude of the show. that's why WrestleMania is and always should be the biggest annual celebration of pro wrestling as a whole
I did not know I needed Rustage geeking out over pro wrestling until now lmao And he's a Gunther and Dragunov enjoyer? Boy do I got some matches for you. Check out their NXT bouts, absolutely goated.
It makes me so happy to seee people getting into wrestling nowadays! As a longtime wrestling fan for the last 15 years, its better than its ever been. Glad to have yall along for the ride. One of us!
Seriously man as someone else who heroically survived the 2010s to see the peaks that wrestling is hitting and seeing all the new surprising fans it’s so damn cool
It was so great meeting the two of you at Bash in Berlin, still sad I didn't coincidentally had my One Piece DnD Cards with me on that very specific day to get them signed by you two
What's funny is Rustages story for getting into wrestling is similar to my best friends, he wanted to watch Wrestlmania because he loves Dwayne Johnson as an actor, and I have been a wrestling fan for all my life pretty much, so every week I am showing him new things matches, explaining history and behind the scene stories and what not and he is just totally engrossed in it lol, I even took him to his first show when Monday Night Raw came to my city a couple weeks ago.
I'm a huge fan of pro wrestling and have been my whole life, so I'm excited you two are getting into it! Rustage, you're very astute in your assessment of wrestling-there's nothing like it. It's like theater and sports combined into one. Many stories told in wrestling could never be told or resolved in any other way. For Rustage's professor idea, there are a few wrestlers over the years who have been similar. Back in the 60s and 70s, there was Professor Tanaka, who was a no-nonsense evil Japanese villain (similar to Gunther in his mannerisms). There was also "The Genius" Lanny Poffo, who wore a graduation cap and gown and always acted high and mighty, as if he were more intelligent than everyone else. He also happens to be Macho Man Randy Savage's brother! There's also a female wrestler named "The Professor" Serena Deeb, who currently wrestles in AEW and has a very technical style, sort of "schooling" her opponents. As for the extremely British quality, there was a wrestler known as Jack Gallagher in WWE a few years back whose whole shtick was being a gentlemanly Englishman. But like many from the British wrestling independents in the 2010s, he was accused of some unsavory things and isn't around anymore. As for Mark's idea of an old guy who is really fluid and able to just destroy his opponents, that is literally just Japanese wrestlers. Many Japanese wrestlers compete well into their 50s. One you might be interested in is Minoru Suzuki, a founding father of MMA in Japan (and the world in general), and a very good pro wrestler for 30+ years now. He has literally developed the nickname "Murder Grandpa." He will beat the life out of anyone he's facing, even random people at ringside, and do it with a sadistic smile. Oh, and also, fireballs are ABSOLUTELY a thing in wrestling, along with flaming tables and inferno matches where the entire ring is surrounded by flames. The Great Muta made spitting mist into the eyes of your opponent a famous and magical thing that apparently all Japanese wrestlers are equipped to do now. Undertaker can call lightning down from the heavens, and Kane can make the top of the turnbuckles around the ring shoot fire. "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt has been set on fire and got right back up. There are a wealth of wacky supernatural moments and characters in wrestling. Mark is also correct about Mick Foley and Undertaker's Hell in a Cell match. If you haven't seen it, it is a must-watch. Foley was 100% not supposed to go through the roof of the cell-it accidentally happened-and that isn't even the most replayed insane moment from that match. Foley has gone on record saying that if he wasn't basically out of it by the time he went through the roof, he would have tried to move his body in midair to land safely, and that would have made him rotate too far and most likely break his neck or worse. Also, if you look closely near the end of the match, there's a moment where it zooms in on his face, and you can see one of his teeth has gone through his mouth and lodged in his nose. He also once lost a majority of one of his ears getting his head tangled up in the ropes (for reference, they are not ropes-they're just called that-they are actually high-strength steel cables). Mick Foley is basically the wrestler Rustage is describing when it comes to a guy who will sacrifice his body for the craft. Although if they let Ilja Dragonuv, he probably would lose a finger for the sake of epicness.
I've watched WWE since I was a kid, but I stopped around 2018, and only saw some moments here and there. During the leadup to WrestleMania 40, I got back into it and I haven't missed a Raw or SmackDown since.
I watched WWE in the 00s but stopped due to the repetitiveness, but I came back to it this year also. It's been so good. As for hobbies, there are a bunch of "feminine" hobbies like knitting/crochet ing or scrapbooking that you'd probably hate.
LOVE THIS. I got into wrestling way back in the early 2000s when I was a kid, but fell out of it during the 2010s when WWE was not so good. I just got back into pro-wrestling in 2023 and I must say that this is THE BEST time to get into wrestling, whether you are new or an old fan.
So Cody Rhodes started on WWE, quit, went to New Japan, did everything, quit, went to ROH, quit, then started AEW with some friends, got a massive deal from wwe and went back to wwe
I also began watching wrestling a couple years ago and I agree with you. The matches draw me in, but the storylines kept me. As for AEW their matches are indeed more brutal, but their focus on storylines is great too. They have faltered on that department recently but you should look up older ones like the MJF v CM Punk rivalry. It was like I was watching a god damn TV series. Always waiting impatiently for the next episode. P.S: As for your fictional wrestler Rustage, look up William Regal. He isn't exactly what you described, but he is that british villain you love to hate
It's so interesting hearing people start watching wrestling so recently. I'm creeping up on starting watching nearly 10 years ago. But being in the wrestling sphere for maybe 13 years.
12:45 Ah yes the hate filled match of Hangman vs Swerve! That feud is right next Drew vs Punk for me. If you like WWE, AEW, both, and more, either way the wrestling business is booming and you love to see it! 🤩
39:40 Darby Allin in AEW is basically that guy who wrestles in spite of his well being. He was even going to climb Mount Everest earlier this year before he got an actual injury.
I haven't been into WWE in so long, but I remember what made me genuinely love it was playing one of the games in my teens and getting to play through the Degeneration X break up as a story mode. It taught me who Shawn Michaels was, it made me hate Triple H, it got me so legitimately invested in a wrestler who didn't even participate anymore.
Shwabadi, you might want to look into Shinsuke Nakamura or Finn Balor, they're both in their forties but are still very good, you also might want to look into Kane, who is retired but used to use fireballs a lot, same with Bray Wyatt as 'the fiend'
I absolutely loved this episode since I am fan of wrestling already and WWE has been really good lately I have been watching since 2013 now but originally did watch as a kid but stopped for around 5 years
On my youtube. I do yugioh CPU vs CPU tournaments but like wrestling I try to create dumb but fun story lines and depending on the duels can effect the future tournaments
I was similar, haven’t watched wrestling in like 15+ years. But randomly realized I could watch Wrestlemania and got back into it. I will say the funniest thing about Cody Rhodes is the parody of his theme. I can’t find the video anymore but Negro Icon Cody Rhodes had me laughing for weeks.
This is giving me the mightiest need to see what absolute fire these two could drop if they were to write wrestling raps à la Wrestle & Flow, Trick Williams, and heck... Ethan Page.
At 0:26 , you can see the joy in rustage's eyes when shwab asked about the dumpster match🤣🤣... I remember when Kalisto beat Braun Strowman in a dumpster match. Thought it was the coolest shxt I ever saw🤣😂
I know you wont go back all the years of wrestling. But you guys should look at just a compilations of highlights. For example best ladder/money in the bank match moments, hell in a cell, steel cage etc. it would be nice watches for you guys to enjoy it even more
In a way there was a wrestler like that. His name was Gentleman Jack Gallagher and he would carry round an umbrella and use it as a weapon. He wasn't that jacked because he was a cruiserweight, and primarily wrestled on WWE's cruiserweight brand at the time. Unfortunately he was released a number of years ago due to some serious allegations.
39:28 this has already happened if you want to watch it (I don't recommend it) was Seth Rollins vs. Rey Mysterio in the first (and hopefully only) eye for an eye match at Extreme Rules 2020
Never have I done such a fucking double take until this the day I saw Sir Rustage, Shwabados, AND CODY RAHEEM RHODES IN ONE THUMBNAIL? OH THE SPECIAL INTERESTS ARE INTERESTING
The mankind vs undertaker hell in a cell is such a legendarh match because McFolly should've died. Genuinely, the gods were on his side, he bit a clean hole through his mouth, fell from the top of the cage multiple times, sometimes into tacs, if im not mistaken, they went back up and he got dropped from onto the hard floor. He had serious head trauma, fractured bones, and be came back later that night, with a concussion, limping to the ring, just to finish his segment.
Just some fun stuff from the AEW side. AEW used to do great stories like WWE is currently doing, but they've been rather hit and miss recently. HOWEVER. The "Hell in a Cell" match that you saw (Actually a Cage Match. Hell in a Cell surrounds ringside, while a cage is against the ropes) was the climax to genuinely, one of their best stories. I encourage you to watch Dropmick Wrestling's video on it "Hangman Page vs. Swerve Strickland" it is honestly a great recap of the story. Outside Interferance also did an excellent recap of two of AEW's best stories as well.
I've been watching wrestling for like 16 to 17 years nonstop from NJPW, TNA, WWE, ROH to now AEW, and over the last 5 to 6 years has been amazing as a wrestling fan and if yall talk about pro wrestling definitely try to get John from Supereyepatchwolf or Mark on again hell yeah. Also, I love pro wrestling as much as animanga, Marvel/DC, Star Wars, and things that are really close to my heart.
The end segment of them creating a wrestler is just fusing William Regal and Undertaker into one being, with a dash of later years of Flair (Not the TNA version)
There was a time where they actually did have a wrestler they could do magic and shoot fireballs And they most recently had a wrestler name Alex bliss where she had a phase where she could shoot fireballs
To randomly turn on wrestlemania and have it be the biggest match and that’s what got you into wrestling is legit poetic
it is, especially when you know that originally WrestleMania was meant to be the very thing that elevates pro wrestling to the mainstream, and it did! and as of today i've seen couple of people start watching wrestling by randomly checking out Wrestlemania 39 or 40 and being hooked by the sheer spectacle and magnitude of the show. that's why WrestleMania is and always should be the biggest annual celebration of pro wrestling as a whole

Ilija Dragunov is an incredible wrestler and it brings me so much joy that new fans see his talent

38:10 "i need someone who has magic powers" old school undertaker. There ya go lol

A soap opera with scheduled fights is exactly how I have always described pro wrestling, so happy you discovered and enjoyed it!~
