Great tips! If I may elaborate on two of them...
    1. Flying into the wind when outbound: The more marginal the conditions, the more important this is. If it's very windy, finding yourself downwind of your launch spot - with a low battery, is going to cause you some stress.
    2. Sports mode: Depletes your battery faster than P-mode. You only want to use it if you have battery to spare or when downwind of your home-point and you determine that your ground speed is insufficient for the drone to get home. On a related note, if your drone's auto RTH speed is slower than manual P-mode flight (definitely the case for Phantoms), just flying it home manually (in P-mode) may be sufficient to get you out of trouble.
And finally, this advice may only relevant to top-heavy drones like the Phantom, but such drones are vulnerable to tipping over in high winds, both on launch and landing, but particularly on the latter. Hand launching/catching is one solution - if you're experienced (& brave). Better still, find a shielded area to take off and land; downwind of a building, a car, a small hill, etc.

Thankyou for this valuable information. as far as the Mavic Mini SE that i do own ... i get messages on the app that the Props are turning/spinning at a high rate of speed warning... even on moderate days but most commonly in windy situations. any insights? what to do's ? the warning goes away shortly ther-after... i've noticed too ! my other drones such as the Dji Inspire 2 and my Yuneec Hplus also handle differently as well for they are rated for higher winds as i understand. thank you

    Gday Dan,
UAV Forecast use to be good. But recently they changed thier free version from 24hr fircast to a 3hr forecast, so now there arw better options than UAV forecast

You did not mention by using the remote and see when the drone tilts when stationary. When it tilts its fighting the wind direction.

That is a great tip, we discuss that in our drone course: www.fearlessdrone.academy

I took off with perfect wind condition and about 150ft, suddenly got a warning saying wind speed issue and immediately i could see a shake of the video on my controller.. next minute I initiated RTH but drone just went haywire and lost! Got the last coordinates and scanned the area.. but couldn't find the drone.. Last coordinates shows it was still at 120ft.. could it have gone further away with GPS completely lost and no logging ??

I’ve never heard of anything like this happening. What drone were you using? Have you contacted the drone company to see if they can resolve this?

A small coin cell high pitch audible every hour on the hour. Find it.
