Thank you for the video. I hired a locksmith to replace my sliding glass door lock....had to wait a week for the part "to come in." When it finally did and they did the job, they put it in so the latch was upside down. Needless to say, the lock didn't work. Paid $122 for 5 minutes of work and $35 for the part. When I called the next day to tell them, "Something is wrong with this lock, it's not latching." I got a recording. No one ever called me back. 3 days later, (which is today) I searched online on how to do the job myself and found your video....5 minutes later....presto, job done. Your demonstration made it so easy to follow. I wish I had thought of looking online before i hired the incompetent, unprofessional "locksmith." Thanks again. You saved me from another day of stressing about no lock on my door. ❤ You're great! Have a wonderful day.😊

Thanks Dale for the video and the one clue - the spring. Once I got the latch out, I looked for the spring and noticed that it was still connected to the locking mechanism inside. I was able to get a thin metal dental pick on the broken side of the spring, lift it out with the assistance of needle nose plyers - and without disconnecting it from the lock - bend one layer of the spring over, create a new hook and reattach it to the hole on the outside of the metal housing where it belonged. I know this might fail again, but at least I now know what to do.

Ahhh..."needle nose" vise grips is definitely the key. I don't have any, so tried my regular ones...unfortunately, as I attempted to push inwards to remove the old one, the pliers slipped off the latch, and down it went -- it will be down there forever now. I was more careful installing the new one, and just grabbed onto the latch from the front side (with my regular vise grips), and really torqued them down so they wouldn't slip off. Thanks for the video -- was very helpful!

Great video. Unfortunately, I used locking plier that wasn’t needle nose and lost the old locking mechanism in the door. Did find a replacement from Lowes, but the cheap screws the kit provided allowed for the top screw to break off inside the hole, so now I can’t screw in the top screw (or take broken piece out). Otherwise working. Should I try some glue to secure the top of the lock insert to the door? Pretty stable with one bottom screw.

You could try some super glue.

It's very easy. Just take your time. I've had to replace ours more than once.

Appreciate the vid,but what do you do when one of the main screws won’t come out? I keep trying to unscrew it but the flat part from the outside of the door just keeps spinning so I can’t remove it

I think about the only thing you can do is cut the screw head off.
