I think tricks are as cool as out of your combfort zone you are with the trick. It doesen't matter the level, I always get stoked when someone is battling something, even if its super simple. You know it means the world for them
"Learn tricks you don't wanna learn" is great advice. I had never learned varial flips because I always saw them as an illegal trick but I just tried them the other day and they were surprisingly easy and kind of fun.
Bro i got the exact same feeling, like i know how to switch heel and all that but never wanted to learn varial flips. Ill maybe try next session thanks
Whenever I felt like I wasn't progressing or I was getting bored with skating it was mostly because of not really learning new tricks, in the early years of starting you never get bored because you have so many new options as basic tricks. I got back into skating earlier this year and I mainly stopped because I wasn't very social but decided to just skate on my own and if I meet new people that's a bonus :) I usually spend a good amount of time each session trying to figure out something new, obviously I warm up a bit with tricks I'm fairly consistent at then I'll go for around an hour or so trying new stuff out then return to my regular tricks to get confidence back if I didn't get that new trick or if I did, try and work it into a line.
The only rule for skating is don’t be a dick. Everyone starts out somewhere, and not everyone evolves the same speed. There are people who think Rodney, Hosoi, and McGill are lame. Those are the skate gods.
You know I think I really needed these tips, i'm still very new to skating i'm 22 and work alot its hard for me to find time when im not exhausted from work, I've not been skating as much lately I've been stuck on my ollie for a while now mainly getting it while moving but I really like the idea of just learning random tricks to create the muscle memory. Skating is still fun for me its just hard to find time and especially right now with it being 40 degree Celsius+ days Keep up the solid work Dan me and my mate watch your videos after work they're definitely good watching Much love from Australia
Skate at night dude. I'm in qld and the heat is too real. It's hard after work for sure, smash a banana before you skate, think more about the fuel you need to skate. I'm 30 so it's getting harder to skate with the same intensity I did when I was 22. But food and recovery has made the biggest difference in getting me enough energy to skate after work everyday.
@@_lowpoke700 Honestly great idea man, Skating around my area at night is a bit dodgy but it'll work nothing I haven't dealt with before. Unfortunately for the bananas I'm mildly allergic but any fruit in general should be sweet You're 100% right about food and recovery though appreciate the advice man
go out and skate , if your a beginner worried about look whack , go to the park early the pros dont come till 1pm lol and depending on the city or state , you might have 4 parks in the area find the one for you.
Really good Dan 👍. I start to skate at 35 now iam 1 month before turning 39. So I really stuck with my commitment on kickflip, and Ive been pro athlete all my life learn fast full commitment untill I learn it good. Kickflip it's a fucking new level people 😃 skating for me became a new way to learn and understand my body more. Kickflip I will land you 😄, but its ok I switch to something else, that the progress of learning never stops. Thank you for nice tips 🙏
My biggest obstacle right now is essentially fear. Was totally fearless when I was 19. Handrails, blocks, etc were no problem. Took a break to focus on music, came back at 27 and now I struggle to even hop on a round bar or down 7 stairs without multiple run ups. Have no clue what it is or how to break it. Was never like this before I took those years off.
6:17 was definitely the best trick of the video 😂 You should do a tutorial on how to fix your lines right after a near miss 🤣 you're an expert on that!
Hey Dan I want to know how you do slappys on taller ledges, cause I can berly get on regular side walk curbs to do 50-50s on but you just levitate against it and it makes no sense how you do it so good.
Rules? What rules? When I was a teenager there were rules. Now I'm into my 30s and I wear knee pads and push mongo. And I have a fuckin good time, that's the only rule to follow.
Just subbed been watching you and your crew for a couple years man Enjoy the material n edits shidd even Got me back on my skateboard after 5 years off, bless up everybody Skate or die
Hey Dan I have an important question if you see this. I rolled my front foot again and havent been able to flip ANYTHING for a month now without pain and Ive done everything to take care of it Do you have any advice on how to speed this recovery up? Thanks
Hey I may not be Dan, but I have done it twice and what worked for me is literal workouts for my foot. Like spelling the alphabet with my foot a bunch of times a day, I do half raises I do tons of stretching and you can even look up workouts to make your foot stronger
I feel sports are like a personality or fashion where it's how u carry urself or rock it. When on a board whether skating, surfing, or any sport really Its 95 percent style and that kinda breaks down to natural abilities and confidence in them to the extent u are two moves ahead of ur current position and the Smith flow from each isn't really as much a thought but muscle memory in a way. I've seen the guys who try harder than anyone and are the loudest thinking there king . And in a way they are. King ding-a-ling. Like they have never seen a video of themselves side by side with a guy doing the same maneuvers at the same location, conditions and line that looks like he's asleep almost going trew the motions. I've seen guys that have a kid and get married and don't surf for 5 yrs or so and when they get back out and knock the rust off they actually seem to surf way better because there style had matured and the agro all or nothing twitchy, stiff , forsfull looking approach they used to have is long gone. No matter what trick or sport it is if it's ugly it's not on par with a guy that has half the ammo but is appealing to watch doing his thing. Speed , power , flow.
Get into a warm water pool and cycle. Broke my wrist a few times and the pool made my recovery really strong. Avoided recommended surgery. My wrists are pretty solid now. I've worked as a lifeguard and seen miracles. Nothing beats the water.
Just cause it flows well doesn't necessarily dictate whether or not it's a kook trick though. Cause what about shuvit tail grab or kickflip roast beef, gotta admit both those tricks have that sorta flow aspect where it works perfectly and easy. For instance if the shuvit rockets a lil it's right there perfect easy for the grab. Same thing with kick roast beef, that particular grab is perfect for catching the board when it flips that direction and flows together nicely. But they still get classified as "gross" tricks and usually not very highly respected.
I learned switch tres before I started pushing normal and also before learning kickflips still to this day I can’t kickflip at all switch or regular but I can switch tre and switch hardflip but I can’t do either regular I do all my grind tricks regular it’s strange because I can front heel regular but not switch and can do switch back heels but not regular back heels
I wondered the same when I first started skating. I'm a pretty skinny tall guy and am always afraid I'm gnna land on my hip bone. I actually had to set a time to practice falling so I could roll away from my hip before I hit the ground.

I dont get peoples problems with varial it looks as good as any other 180 degree flip trick
What is the stigma against the varial flip?
@@MrJamocity people think it's just inferior to a 360 flip..
