Took my first Florida trip this June to Innisbrook Resort. Played the Copperhead course where the PGA holds the Valspar Championship. The PGA ranks it the 5th toughest course on tour and I believe it. Played the course 3 times from the white tees (83, 89, 91) and one from the gold tees (84). It wasn’t the greens that made it tough, it was the positions of the fairway bunkers and trees. No matter what tee box you played from, the bunkers always came into play. Some holes had maybe a 30 yard gap between them. 3+ bunkers on the left and right. And then there were trees with large limbs that overhung the fairways 150 +/- yards out so you not only had to navigate around the bunkers you had to navigate around the limbs. It was an absolute blast but I had to keep my expectations in check. Enjoyed your video.

@@qcwestside4112 thanks so much for watching! Yeah, the tour setups are no joke! Hopefully I can have another crack at Quail next year after the PGA. I think I can break into the upper 70s if I have a good day. 7500 yards is loooong for a par 71

I live in CLT have been to many tourneys here and convinced that #18 is THE most difficult finishing hole on the PGA tour.
Somehow you made it look easy!
I was at the 2023 W-F, sitting by the green on #17 when Mark Hubbard carded his Ace, we were high 5ing total strangers!

@@JayJoJonny I’ve worked every tournament at Quail including the PGA and Presidents Cup since 2007. I’m a Hole Captain on 15. I’ve wanted to play there for sooooooo long and finally got the opportunity. I didn’t have near my best game, but even if I did, that course is a BEAST!

We had a high school match at Valencia CC in 2004 a couple days after the final round of the Champions Tour event there. The course was absolutely brutal. I had never seen rough that long. The #2 ranked HS team in Southern California hosted the match, and the best their team shot that day was 79; one of their players ended up having notable success on the PGA Tour, and another one of their players finished runner up in the California Amateur, but hardly anyone could break 80 that day. The medalist was 78.

Yeah I was a 2 index when I filmed this (I know I don’t look like it), but PGA Tour courses are different, especially Quail! We did a shotgun start and started on 16… the first 6 holes I played had 5 par 4s averaging over 500 yards and a 211 par 3 over water with an impossible to hold green haha

@@dsquared1337you both obviously have real game. Quail Hollow plays about 7500 yards for the tour and the setup is probably rated about 77/145 so a 2-handicap won’t break 80, even on a good day. Awesome that you got to play the course with that setup. Thanks for sharing the video.

I played USGA events growing up and tournaments my whole life and I would say to amateurs, you have no idea how hard golf can get. They all say "well I played X course from the tips" and I'm like that's not what's hard.
fast and firm greens are at least 2x harder to play.
yes, length (most courses get tipped out and par 5's are made into par 4s)
Fairways shrink - some course shrink fairways
rough - The rough is 6" (and water and lush for weeks and weeks prior to the tournament) This stuff can mean 1 or 2 shots.
some courses will add new OB or hazards lines.
    pace of play

@@markrussellfilaroski5035 Yes agree 100%. People will watch this video and say “he’s not a 2 handicap” but when you make mistakes on a course like this with this setup, they are amplified big time. 7500 yards for a par 71 not at elevation is silly
