  • MooT BooXLe performing on the Synthesizers.com modular analogue synthesizer. This is not a perfect performance, as it was improvised in one go.
Also functioning in this video are the Moogerfooger CP-251, the Roland Space Echo, and Reason drums.
I was controlling the filter cutoff with a CV pedal.
REMIX available NOW at www.myspace.com/mootbooxle !!
Also, I wasn't looking at the camera, in case you were wondering. I was watching computer monitors, which were showing visual feedback on what I was playing. Thanks for watching!!

Digital is getting better all the time!
I was a complete analog purist for many years, but I've gotten over that as digital technology has really come into its own. I use digital synths and instruments all the time!
What matters the most, in the end, is the sound and feel. If it feels and sounds real, I don't care what made it.
Analog still has an allure that's undeniable though ;)

Yes, they are getting closer with the digital all the time, but I also love the "fat" sound of analog, the early portamento effects gave me chills.

I saw this video about ten years ago.. yeah.. seems about right..
Since then a lot has happened.
I remember back then, I was so into synth and playing music, and I was able to search this video by typing mootbooxle. I can't believe it took me fuckin ages to find this video today. It's been so long, and I've forgotten a lot.
Now I don't play as half as much, but just listening to this reminds me what living is all about. That energy and passion, and just being okay with not being in control all the time.
So thanks dude. I love it when the riff kicks in. It hits me every single time.
I'm just a dude somewhere, but it's really good to see you well. I really like the Floating as well.
Have an awesome day wherever you are!!!

    • @mootbooxle
      @mootbooxle  8 лет назад +2

Thank you for this awesome comment. You hit the nail on the head - a big part of finding contentment in this uncertain life is "being okay with not being in control all the time"! The truth is we don't have control over very many things at all...We only have control over how we respond to the situations life presents us with.
If I've inspired you (or anyone) in any way, I feel like I've accomplished something great. Music has great power...It's a precious gift and not something to be taken lightly, which has always been my biggest problem with the music "industry" which is mostly not about music, but rather turning something into a product that can be sold. There's nothing wrong with making a living with music, and I am thankful to be able to do it, but As we have seen just in the years since this video was created, the greedy music industry has all but imploded, and unfortunately the greatest casualty has been great music itself! OK rant over. Take care! :)

    • @sanglee6528
      @sanglee6528 8 лет назад

+mootbooxle Damn dude, now that I'm here replying, I'm listening to it again! And I totally forgot what I was gonna say.
It's really strange how the genre of music really doesn't matter when the music is good. I just watched your rufolo video on fb and made me think about just loving to play all kinds of music.
I still very rarely feel completely in trust, and therefore feel free and relaxed while playing music. Trusting the power and the gift of music like you said. I'm always chasing, or fighting against it. The human condition...!!!! :p
Ugh. I don't know where pop music is going but definitely not anywhere deep.... But I always think all the good stuff gets even more crystalised in times like this. Including you dude!!! :D

Thank you! I think analog modeling is great- I love my Nord Lead! It goes with me to every gig. It's apples and oranges really - the modular is amazing for getting unique, slightly unpredictable sounds that you can't readily duplicate - but the analog modeling stuff is sometimes perfect. When I want to lay down a quick bass line or a lead thing, I usually go for the Nord or a soft synth first. The modular is more about experimentation. Peace!

I also like the fact that you don't have to do anything fancy to get the sequencer working with the modular. I should do a short video showing that. The CZ also makes a killer talkbox tone!

Such a sincere and atmospheric vibe in this video; ambient, and almost daunting at times. Tons of energy and genuinely exciting. Not only does this improvisation convey a great deal of emotion, but upon listening I find that it's very easy to immerse myself in an other-worldly, fictitious setting (I'd say this relates most closely with the last third of the video), which I find very appealing. This is sure to be an inspiring video to most anyone. This is what music is all about; keep it up MooT!

@Tx66 Thank you! The CP-251 is acting as a foot pedal interface in this video. I patched a Moogerfooger foot controller into one of its attenuators, and patched that to control the filter cutoff. I'm pretty sure I'm not doing anything else with it here, but I could be wrong. Oh yeah - that's right. I was using another attenuator from it to scale the filter keyboard tracking down from 1v/oct to like 2/3 of that.

@ForestDweller80 Thank you for asking. When this video was made, I'd been playing for about 20 years, so that's definitely part of it. If I could recommend anything to you, learn the major and minor scales. It's kind of boring at first, but it's worth it. The idea is to have all these tools (chords, scales, modes, etc) in your mental arsenal so you don't even have to think about it - you just hear it and your fingers do it. Just don't ever stop playing!! Peace!

I love the old technology. The dinosaur he's playing on is sweet...and that old Tape delayed echo plex he uses is great.

This is some very cool improv. I like the several motifs that grow and morph...very nice.

It's cool to see somebody actually play their synth instead of using the MIDI editor on a DAW. Nice video!

Hey! You know some stuff! It's three oscillators, but of course you can use multiple waveform outs from each one to fatten it up. It's two sawtooths hard sync'ed an octave apart, and the third osc is a square wave with sine mixed in - for fatness.
The Space Echo has three play heads. I'm only using one of them here though - and changing the speed in some places. Thanks for the comment!

Epic.... If I had the time and money to work with analog synth, I'd really give it a shot. From your improv, it sounds like you can seriously play some pretty awesome stuff once you get the gist of what you're doing.

Hey...that's cool! And that did cross my mind, that it sounded a bit like "Heaven On Their Minds"....Didn't think anyone else thought that! Good one. JCS is by far the best production I've ever played for...(I was on drums for that one).

It is a modular synth, the cables route the signal to the various modules for total control of the sound, unlike a digital or pre routed analog.
