    Very important and helpful tip, i'm an Architecture Student, doing Arc Viz as a side Job, in Sierra Leone, and i really want to grow more into it, this tip also aids me in organizing myself in both Design Projects and Still renderings/Animations. More of this will be super helpful as i usually fall victim in underestimating the business side of this, as too much which can be damaging in the long run.

    Hi Ava! Please do a video on asset management. There are so many options out there and ways in which this can be organized through connecter, kstudio asset manager etc. Also, in general how do you store your assets in the system and create backups of the same? Is it connected through servers or stored on an ssd? This is a very important and often underestimated part of the process, especially by beginners. Please let us know your views on the same. Thank you!

    Hey, I agree with everything except the example used regarding giving out free project that benefits both party.Unless the client is someone reputable or one of your close peers, it is very likely that you will not get anything out of it or just getting ripped off in the end. But if the client is reputable or one of your close peers, they should know how to value your work and wont let you do it for free.
    To me, the only thing that you should be doing free and use it for portfolio/promotional materials if things fall apart is : competition.
    Just my 2 cents that i feel young artists need to understand as a part of appreciating their own work.
    Great topic otherwise!

    • @Jez2008UK
      @Jez2008UK 4 года назад +2

      I agree. I never do free work. Not even a 'sample'. I have plenty of images on my website - I don't actually specialise in any one particular field (like Arch-Viz), and if/when I ever get a potential client asking for free work, I reply back something like "So you want me to stop working on a paid project, which someone has paid me 50% upfront, and put that aside and work for you for free" ? They then understand.
      The ONLY time I did a free sample was a potential new client that wanted something like 30,000 images of their different products. I did do it for free (I didn't win the job, which I think was a blessing) and then I used that image on my website. It didn't take me long at all and is actually one of the only images I've ever created using Corona for (and yes, for that project, Corona was sooooo much easier than V-Ray!).

    • @ArchVizArtist
      @ArchVizArtist  4 года назад +1

      I agree with you, but once at the beginning we did a test renders for free and it resulted in a long relationship, so it was a win-win situation. That's why we included this ;)

    • @michaelkhoo
      @michaelkhoo 4 года назад

      @@ArchVizArtist hmm you have a point and I don't deny that sincere and great clients do exists. But to me, that's just a very small sample compared to the big pool of clients which are always trying to take advantage of us, especially young and emerging artists. Also, if some other clients found you through word of mouth, you have to be prepared to give them test renders too. To me it's still quite a dangerous business strategy to adopt.

    • @laihinchun
      @laihinchun 4 года назад +1

      @@michaelkhoo Agree. Also word of mouth can go both ways. Once an impression is established about your name/brand, it is very hard to reverse unless you are willing to scrape everything and start fresh again. I had this experience when I first started, I offered a heavily discounted price to my ex-boss, and eventually they started to refer me to their clients. On one hand I very appreciate their act of referring, but on the other hand since they advertised me as a cheap artist for good quality work, which kind of fucked up my negotiations with clients, because they knew I was offering my ex-boss a special price and they wanted it as well. After this I sworn to myself I won't work at discounted price anymore, even if it means to cost the relationship. Counterintuitively not only your client won't likely respect you if you're charging too low or doing free gigs for testing, but it will also attract future clients who are looking for similar qualities from your service. But like you said there are clients out there genuinely willing to pay handsomely for your work, but there are far more clients out there looking to exploit inexperienced freelancers or new archviz entrepreneurs. Trust me they will try to exploit, if you give them the chance.

    I had to turn down the client, because there were several reasons:
    1. A long feedback process (it took him several days to send me the corrections, though the feedback was prepared the day I sent it to him, judging from the screenshot time).
    2. Asking to work on weekends ("we need to show something fast to the client!1") I agreed the first time, but not the second, as he didn't make any prepay.
    3. Long preparation of the contract. It stated "10 years term" for some reason, and no pay mention. It took him 2 weeks to make, which was a wasted time for me. I didn't do anything during that time, as no contract - no obligations. I made the test though at the beginning, and spent 2.5 days.
    4. No prepay ("the client pays for the result"), though no sources were asked before the pay.
    5. Writing at night all the time.
    If you see such things at the beginning, it means it will be all the time. Poor management happens even at big companies, and it can linger for many decades, affecting the company perception.
    I just wrote "sorry, I've got another project, good luck!"
    The less you are paid, the less you are valued. No pay - you have no value to the exploiter.
    Managing negotiations is not easy, it's another skill few people have. But of course, work on your portfolio first, and then maybe hire someone to help you with negotiations, or learn the basics.

I was having the same issues you mentioned above like additional changes, timeline changes, payment delays and sometimes no payment at all. I was thinking to quit freelancing as I didn't knew what I was doing wrong. What I always ask myself is "How do I compute all my monthly expenses in relation to the projects I have current" For example, if I have monthly payments for textures and props but 1st month I have one job to be done and the 3rd month I have 3 requirements... does that mean that third month budgets are cheaper? I don't think so. Thank you in advance

    Thanks for the material. I don't agree with one statement, about working for free. If a company (especially a small one) offers you the first picture for free - run away. You'll become loser no. x. People who expect such things have a certain way of doing business and do not want to cooperate with them.
    ///
    Dzięki za materiał. Nie zgadzam się z jednym stwierdzeniem, o pracy za darmo. Jeżeli firma (szczególnie nieduża) oferuje Ci pierwszy obrazek za darmo - uciekaj. Zostaniesz frajerem nr. x. Ludzie, którzy oczekują takich rzeczy mają utrwalony pewien sposób prowadzenia biznesu i nie chcesz z nimi współpracować.

    Test jobs should not be acceptable. Test jobs deteriorates the industry and is a huge disrespect to our profession. Because if you have a strong portfolio or even if you don't, yet they still ask you to do them free work it won't do you good, but harm:
    1. They will look you from a lower perspective
    2. You will have to accept their terms which will benefit them and not you, which will result in a lower salary and other disadvantages
    3. They will select the test images based on their taste, not based on strategy, nor what the client would need
    4. Most of the time you won't even get an answer from them, yet you put all your work into it
    5. You will feel used
    6. Those test jobs will be used in another artists portfolio too
    If you want to build up your portfolio it is much better to do your own projects, you can come out with more interesting ideas, develop your own style, or collaborate with an architect/interior designer than to do a company free test jobs.

    4:17 HM! nice video, but there is a many other things. Like charging 50% and then try to avoid the client saying:
    #1 oh I cant continue because this and that.
    #2 try to make unhappy the client, because you release that you are getting paid not enough for the project.
    #3 getting a better project and trying to reject actual project with the client.
    #4 trying to cancel the project ´for any all the reasons above or other reasons.
    #5 making a minimal changes to make angry the client so making that the cancel the project with you.
    and all of this just to get at least 50% and move on finding new and better projects.
    AND THEN ............. WE HAVE THE SCAMMERS!
    be careful people this is a huge one.
    NEVER CONTRACT AN INDIAN GUY (from india) from any platform!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    this guys get always 50% or more and they the disappear. really be careful with indian guys!
    so at the end is not only the client that doesnt want to pay, there are many other freelancers that find the way to get only money.
