  • WHAT IS RESPIRATORY ACIDOSIS (NURSING)
Are you struggling with learning arterial blood gases (ABGs) in nursing school?
In this video series on arterial blood gases, we'll dive into the 4 key things you need to know when studying ABGs in nursing school:
    1. Metabolic Acidosis
    2. Respiratory Acidosis
    3. Metabolic Alkalosis
    4. Respiratory Alkalosis
This video is all about the second one: respiratory acidosis, and everything you need to know about it for nursing school.
So, really, what is respiratory acidosis?
    Here's what we'll talk about:
    1. Respiratory acidosis is a lung problem
    2. How the lungs cause respiratory acidosis
    3. Normal PaCO2 lab value
    4. How to determine if an ABG is acidosis or alkalosis (look at the pH)
    5. Common causes of respiratory acidosis (asthma, COPD, bronchitis, etc.)
If you're studying arterial blood gases (especially respiratory acidosis), then this video is for you!

I think I have either metabolic acidosis or respiratory acidosis. What type of doctor would I need to see?

    • @NursingSOS
      @NursingSOS  3 года назад

Hey Carol Dickinson! Like we said previously, our resources are to help nursing students through nursing school. We cannot give out any medical advice. We always recommend if you have any medical specific questions they are best addressed with your healthcare provider. Thank you for understanding. 😊

If holding on to too much CO2 causes respiratory acidosis... then isn't wearing masks to often bad for us... and can it cause respiratory acidosis?

CO2 molecules are small. They can easily pass through a mask. Have you ever heard of a surgeon dying of respiratory acidosis during a long surgical procedure?

Its not that easy pathology for developing acidosis like you said.😐😐😐

You're absolutely right, it definitely is not that easy.
