Even if you're an American (like me and a lot of other quadcore Hipsters), you have to be genuinely stupid not to appreciate these guys - as too many comments on this video seem to confirm. You have to be totally oblivious to Gord's power-packed lyrics, and you have to have never watched them - whether up close or in a video here on RUclips - improvise a dozen different new songs right in the middle of 'New Orleans is Sinking' or 'At the Hundredth Meridian' or one of those other take-no-prisoners jam-session songs. I remember Gord saying to the Kingston audience last August, "Thanks for keeping me going," or something to that effect. But a lot of people who heard him, myself included? All they did was return a huge favour. For years he's inspired countless people to keep on keepin' on, by his lyrical genuis alone. For me, an American who doesn't know half of the Canadiana I've been listening to ever since that fateful episode of 'Due South' back in 1995, THAT'S what it is about the Hip.
Me too! I missed never seeing them once! Always planning on seeing them but it always fell through. Kids got sick, didn't get tickets and so on. I watched the concert at a local pub. The owner was a huge Hip fan. He cleared out the bar, because he insisted on watching the concert. They usually played Hip Hop and Gangstar rap. So he and I bonded that night crying and rocking out to The Hip!. ✌❤🇨🇦🎶🎸🏒🤘 🇨🇦💃🐈
I remember going to school on the bus and hearing them in the morning, then when I got my license the same routine and music just that I was driving, then when I went to university my friends and I travelled to Dalhousie to see the play live (my first experience with live music), then when I came back near home and worked for a bit the same schedule and music as when I was growing up occurred again, and well it just seems the bands had always been there throughout my life in Eastern Canada. Such a great band… Cheers all!!! 🎉
Actually The Hip say they were influenced by The Rolling Stones,,you can hear it in some songs. So lets say The Hip are The Stones of Canada,,,,or better yest, The Hip are The HIP .
I made $40 profit off my hip tickets. My friend offered me more than a hundred but instead I asked him to buy me and my wife a cheap supper. I probably saved him hundreds because he was desperate. He now calls me a scalper LOL!
I like the band,,,,the band !!,,,great musicians. Gords voice was never thee best, but he has presence, and sings with emotion. The band is very good. God Bless Gord.
Beatles are overrated. All popular music is overrated. Love the Hip. Doesn't matter to me if you don't. Nothing to do with anyone's intelligence. In fact I don't mind if noone else likes them. Their songs make me feel good. Capisco.
Beautiful man. You are deeply missed and deeply loved.
I'm sorry man- curious why would you feel the need to make that kind of negative comment?
The Hip ARE Canada.
You have no idea how many times I have been alone on a field doing some farm work and have listened to the multitude of their music.
Huh? The who now?
Your G0ddamn right
@@lesbrown7009 I can relate!
Rest in Peace and Love Forever Gord 🙏

No they're not. I can't stand them
Wasn't even much of a fan, I only knew the hits. But the memory of that stoicism, that tour, still brings tears.

Funny you should say that. Even in Canada only a small niche of people listened to their music.
Shadow2Serenity Thank you!
Canadians who listen to rock stations just know the hip, its unexplainable. Its part of us.

RIP 'HIP. RIP Mr. Gord Dowie. Heaven is a better place today because of this. But the world is just not the same.

CANADA.....and the HIP.....courage... Stand proud and strong all
The Tragically Hip are the Beatles of Canada. Great, great band that deserves all the praise smart people wanna give them. Love this band so much.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Hip. But, they are not Canada's version of the Beatles.
Huge Hip fan ... but i don't see the Beatles comparison, either ...
I think the Guess Who would have been a better comparison.
Actually The Hip say they were influenced by The Rolling Stones,,you can hear it in some songs. So lets say The Hip are The Stones of Canada,,,,or better yest, The Hip are The HIP .
The Beatles of Canada? The Rolling Stones of Canada? I say the Milli Vanilli of Canada. Actually that's an insult to Milli Vanilli.
Greatest band ever! RIP Gord
Their music just sounds like Canada. Especially the prairies.
great clip.thank you
lovin Gord

not bad for a guy with terminal brain cancer, you gotta respect that
probably the right guess ...

No worries. You're not alone. Most of Canada isn't a fan of his.
Another over rated band.
Better than Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber or Beyonce ANY DAY!!!
not to the people who "get them" ... mostly Canadians, to be sure.
Checked out your music playlist tGBB. GWAR, the Cranberries, Viking songs? You got nothing.
